(Jane had given a very long session in ESP class last night, along with Sumari. [...] We held the session in her study for a change. [...]
(Last night’s session had presented some new information about animal dreams. [...] Those sessions are recorded; then during the week a dedicated class member goes to all the work of transcribing the tape and having the script duplicated.
[...] (See the 619th session in Chapter Four, as well as the first session in this chapter.) You accepted those ideas for a reason, individually and en masse, for mankind at any given “time” has a strong idea of the particular sort of world experience it will create.
(On September 25, 1972, the day of the 617th session in Chapter Three, I wrote a note describing how Jane and I had seen and heard geese flying south, in a spectacle both inscrutable and moving. [...]
(The session was held in our small back room, and again Jane spoke while sitting down and with her eyes closed. [...] Her pace was a good one, though not as fast as last session’s.)
(Jane now took a long pause, by a good length the longest of the session. [...] For the session dealing with the refrigerator see the 30th, in Volume 1. It was unscheduled.)
(Seth devoted the 88th session to the layers of the subconscious, especially Jane’s third undifferentiated layer. He discussed his source and structure to at least some degree in many sessions, among them the 128th, the 24th, etc.)
(Her dentist was so puzzled by her exceptionally good reactions that in the middle of the session Jane had to explain her apparent insensitivity to pain; usually it takes two trips for her to achieve the same results, with the use of Novocain. [...]
[...] “I like to keep busy right up to the session,” she said, “especially when I don’t know what he’s going to talk about.” Pouring me a glass of wine just before the session was due, she said she could feel Seth “buzzing around.”
(Jane began to dictate in a voice a little stronger than usual, and more or less maintained it until the end of the session. [...] Her delivery was also quite slow and deliberate through most of the session.)
[...] It had been a very peaceful session. Jane also said she was not now as tired as when the session began. [...]
[...] Yet Willy spent at least five minutes making a careful survey of the studio; he remained in a very jumpy mood until just before the session began.
(Jane said she believes Seth is using these experiences, within the experience of the session itself, as a compensation for the psychological time experiments he has requested her to abandon for a while. It will be remembered that in the 140th session Seth stated that at times Jane would advance “too fast, too soon”, with her own experiments. [...]
(Neither Jane or I felt well, but we also didn’t want to dispense with the session unless we had to, or Seth decided to.
There are some points that should be mentioned concerning the definition of the self, or a self, as I gave it to you during our last session.
(Many sessions have dealt with capsule comprehension, some of them being the 24th, 27th, 29th, 62nd-64th; the 87th and 131st particularly, as well as later ones.)
(This is the first time in many sessions that Willy has paid any attention to Jane during a session. In the early sessions he exhibited some drastic behavior at Seth’s presence and/or arrival. [...] At other times he seemed to exhibit plain panic, running to hide just before session time. [...]
(No envelope test was held during the session.
(The session was held in our front room. [...]
I was quite pleased with the amount of quite specific material that I managed to deliver concerning our friend Philip, at our last session.
[...] Jane was well dissociated, as she had been for most of the session. [...] Apropos of this, Jane said that subjectively the session had seemed about fifteen minutes long to her.)
(It was a very hot and humid night, but in order to avoid interruptions we held the session in our small back room. [...]
(Jane’s eyes remained closed for the whole session. [...]
This will be, I trust, a quiet and peaceful session.
[...] Jane said just before the session tonight that she had a slight pyramid feeling—discussed in several previous sessions—and that she had also been aware of this sensation just before a spontaneous session for her ESP class last night; and just before the 435th, seance, session.
(Before, she had noticed this sensation only during, or before sessions in which Seth’s larger personality spoke. Now we wondered whether this feeling would be transferred to the sessions held by Seth himself, and to other psychic endeavors.)
Many sessions ago I gave you some information concerning painting the viewpoint, and suggestions also as to how to approach a natural object, to become it. (400, 401 sessions.) You can also imagine how that natural object would appear to others of various ages and temperaments, or to me, or how curious it would seem to someone who does not dwell within your own system. [...]
[...] The extra noise seemed to be merely another problem to be surmounted so the session could continue. [...]
(We were by now more used to our new schedule, and felt more alert for the sessions. By 8:50 this evening Jane was nervous, as usual, having no idea of Seth’s subject matter for the session.
As much as I truly regret closing the session I will do so, so that you can get your sleep. [...] I hesitate even now to close the session, but realize that you must be weary.
(The following material is included here because it refers back to the 44th session, and is touched upon in the next, 46th, session.
We are quite old friends, even in this existence by now, after so many sessions. [...]
(Our dream discussion before the session led me to voice a question about dreams that I don’t think Seth has covered in just that way. [...] [I’ve also had others in which Jane was okay physically – walking well, and so forth.] “But what happens,” I asked, as we waited for the session to begin, “after I have the dream about you, for example? [...]
(Jane was “just mad,” though, as we waited for the session to start at 10:10. [...] She’s been trying to follow her impulses more spontaneously recently, in light of the recent session material, and I think has shown good improvement there. [...]
(The session started late because Jane became so involved in a painting after supper. [...]
(I’m making an extra carbon of this session for my own use with the dream material.
(I’ve spent perhaps one of the most uncomfortable weeks of my life, since I had the two back teeth extracted last Thursday, as noted in last week’s deleted session. I’ve learned some more about the whole situation through the pendulum, and asked Jane if Seth could comment in what I expected would be tonight’s regular session.
(4:54 P.M. I thought it rather humorous, now, when Jane denied having the session early so that we would be free to watch the last episode of The Word if we wanted to. [...] but rather the strong feedback from Seth that had resulted from her reading the book described at the start of the session.
[...] Later this afternoon, Jane said that she’d been getting feedback on the book from Seth and that she could have a session....
Unless you have questions, that is the end of the session.
(The session was witnessed by Emolene Frazer; she is an ESP student in Jane’s Thursday night class. This is the regular session usually held Wednesday. [...]
[...] Often on such occasions Jane doesn’t feel much like having a session, being quite sensitive to weather changes. Tonight she not only did feel like a session, but shortly before it told me that she believed the larger Seth personality, the Seth entity as we call it, would speak.
Now you may take a break or end the session as you prefer.
(We did not know whether the session was over now, so resumed our places after Emolene left. [...]
5. All in Volume 1: Note 1 for Session 698 contains quotations from the dream material Seth gave in the 92nd session for September 28, 1964. Then see the equally interesting information on dreams in Session 699; I especially like Seth’s statement that “In a way, one remembered dream can be compared to a psychological photograph….” Jane’s poem, My Dreaming Self, is presented in the notes following that session, along with references to other dream material.
After tonight’s session, Jane told me that his Practice Element 13 was one of the two she’d had insights on during the night preceding the deleted 717th (James-Jung) session. [...] See Note 1 for Session 718.
(Jane was so relaxed and “floppy” before the session that I asked her if she’d rather not have it. [...] I read parts of the last session to her, to remind us both of what Seth had discussed. [...]
1. In Personal Reality, see the 636th session in Chapter 9, and much of the material in the four sessions making up Chapter 12.
Should we continue with the sessions? [...] We decided to hold at least a few more sessions to see what might develop. [...] At this point, of course, we had no idea whether or not each session would be our last, regardless of our conscious decisions. [...]
I was quite nervous before the next session. [...] This session was quite startling for another reason also—the information itself was quite as surprising as the way I was saying it.
[...] Just before midnight, Rob and I took another rest period, and decided to end the session. (It was Seth, incidentally, who suggested we take a five-to-ten-minute break every half hour or so.) Rob and I didn’t know what to make of this session. [...]
[...] Some were answered in following sessions, and this explanation from a session some three years later is particularly interesting:
(Jane has resumed smoking again, and we wondered whether Seth would comment on this during the session. The session was held in our living room rather than in our back room, because of a lawn party being held in back of the house.
[...] She also spoke more rapidly than she has for many a session; my notes indicate she delivered the first monologue entirely without pauses. [...] She maintained this heavy voice for most of the session.)
[...] A good case in point would be the 104th session of November 4,1964. [...] See the 147th session.
[...] This admits traffic noise also, and as we prepared for the session we were quite conscious of the difference compared to the quiet back room.
(Jane felt quite tired before the session this evening. [...] As session time approached Jane was so unenthusiastic that I made her coffee to help pep her up, at her request.
For one thing, Monday’s session hit him in the solar plexus, so to speak; and all joking aside, the session did take quite a bit out of him, simply because he was inclined to block the material, though he did not in most instances.
[...] After one small note I would end the session. Happily, since the session has been an excellent one.
[...] She did not vary much in her voice or pacing through the session.)
[...] This question of distortion came up for perhaps the fiftieth time in the 463rd session. After I signed the contract for this book, our friend Peg Gallagher was doing a story about Seth for the local paper, and she attended a session to get material. [...]
That was November 6, 1968, and starting that night we had a series of sessions dealing with the questions that were foremost in our minds. On that particular evening, our 446th session, the other personality, Seth Two, came through in that distant clear voice.
[...] I consider my psychic experiences, the Seth sessions, and my entire relationship with Seth as a learning adventure—a continuing one. [...]
[...] The inherent relationship would snap into focus during a session, however, when the supraconscious identity would take over.
(I showed them to Jane after the session and asked her to translate them, as she has done with the Christmas card I made for her, but she hasn’t had time to do so as I begin typing this the next evening. The translation will be added to the end of the session, presumably.)
(This is the regularly-scheduled session for December 27, 1971. [...]
(The session began at 9:13 PM. [...]
[...] I asked that tonight’s session deal only with personal material, so we were fairly well prepared. [...]
4. In his Preface, Seth discusses the relationship between my mother’s death and his beginning “Unknown” Reality; in sessions 679–80, some of my mother’s probable lives; and in Session 683, my contacts with her in the dream state. See the appropriate notes for each session.
(A note: Since the next session was held before I was through typing this one from my notes, I can add that in the 694th session Seth deals with some of the obvious questions we had about my mother’s role in our house affairs.)
For related material see Note 9 for Session 679, and notes 2 and 3 for Session 680.
[...] As mentioned earlier (in sessions 680–82), your consciousness seizes upon certain events over others and brings these into significance, and therefore into the official reality that you know.
(Last April 18 Seth gave a private session for me that for the past several months I’ve been rereading almost daily. [...] In the session Seth postulates two men, both portions of myself, who represents the conflicting sets of beliefs I’ve carried for years. [...]
(With all of the recent hassles involving family visits, publishers, and so forth, I’ve begun keeping that session in mind often. [...]
[...] The result of this activity is that I find myself focusing on a few things I think really important: Writing, painting, my love for Jane, the sessions, the house, the cats, etc. [...]
(The following material is from the 886th session.
