“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

You have both built an excellent edifice of a different kind, in Ruburt’s books and mine, and in the sessions themselves, an edifice most admirable, and one that is composed of a kind of material that on its own possesses, among other characteristics, automatic self-protective ones. [...]

You have seldom assured him that one day he would be walking normally, because, of course, you are also caught in the same dilemma. Often in your society you are afraid to hope for the best, because you have been taught so long that misfortune is in one way or another the natural course of events.

(The above isn’t an accurate definition of what the insight was about, and I do think it was a valid one; it may be as good as I could get it in discrete words, I told Jane after I’d read it to her. [...]

Now, to some extent, you and Ruburt felt enough the same way to make the analogy feasible, only Ruburt was the one who constructed the edifice that would protect his own abilities, first of all, and yours as well. [...]

(11:11.) Give us a moment … Quite literally, you live more than one life at a time. You do not experience your century simply from one separate vantage point, and the individuals alive in any given century have far deeper connections than you realize. (Intently:) You do not experience your space-time world, then, from one but from many viewpoints.

[...] Here’s one of her examples as she described it to me: “We can span a period like a century if we want to. We can be a child at one end of it and an old man or woman at the other … Michelangelo [who lived for 89 years, from 1475 to 1564] decided to span a century himself instead of as three counterparts, say. [...]

[...] This one wasn’t a “Roman,” though, but a series of very vivid impressions of myself as a black woman on the island of Jamaica, in the Caribbean Sea. [...]

[...] That session turned out to be private, rather than one for book dictation. [...]

(I don’t know how long I’ll continue to benefit from Jane’s assistance, though, since poetry, painting, and notes can all be quickly laid aside if she starts a new project, or resumes work on one that she’s kept in abeyance for some time. One such delayed endeavor is an autobiography that she began several years ago. Another is the sequel to her novel, The Education of Oversoul Seven; that first Seven book was published in April 1973 — and lately she’s been thinking of resuming work on Seven Two, as we usually call it.¹ One thing is certain: Jane will see to it that something creative happens to change the status quo, for she’s much too restless and energetic to leave things as they are.

Growing from an infant to a full adult was probably one of the most difficult, and yet the most easy of feats that you will ever accomplish in a life. [...]

[...] You learn to read, but the seeing itself is an accomplishment of far greater magnitude — one that seemingly happens all by itself. [...]

[...] For religions have often hinged themselves upon one or another quite valid perception, but then distorted it, excluding anything else that did not seem to fit. [...]

Now: The planetary system of which we spoke in our last session was the first one within your universe, when you are speaking in terms of time. It is very difficult to explain to you that the universe that you see, the stars and planets that you view, are one-dimensional, comparatively speaking. [...]

[...] (Seth smiled.) The possibilities that have come to reality within this universal system have each given birth to other systems and realities, as one tree bears a thousand seeds. [...]

[...] The whole cosmic structure, however, was the materialization of one original thought, for the thought, the basic reality, must always exist before its representation. [...]

[...] Jane came out of trance quickly, but said that the trance had been a good one. [...]

[...] Jane and I saw Norma socially one evening, along with a few other students as well as some people who were not class members. [...] Still, it’s worth noting that being in the presence of a relative stranger who may also be one’s counterpart does make some sort of interior difference in response or attention. [...]

[...] Although we keep the power of suggestion in mind, on one level we found Seth’s associations quite pleasant for the most part, and, once given, somewhat as we might have expected them to be. [...]

(Our suspicions entered in, however, when Jane and I realized that between us [and including each other] we were personally acquainted with nine counterparts: All but one of them [Alan Koch] were class members. [...]

“We’re so used to thinking that our encounters with others are caused by chance — except for those we purposely bring about through choice, such as marriage partners — that Seth’s comments about my students seem a bit outrageous at first: So many counterparts in one room?

[...] They are two faces, therefore, and form one of many spheres of action, one pulling inward and one outward.

[...] All exist one within another. [...] Even this inner ego is not the same from one given moment to another, for it is not a static thing, but is a part of continuing action. [...]

It is therefore obvious why one action affects all others, so intimately that it is basically impossible to speak of one action in isolation. [...]

The boundaries are functional units rather, and functions may blend one into the other. [...]

(An hour before she went into trance this evening, Jane told me that she could get several channels from Seth, each one concerning a different subject, and that “we’d better see” which one came through tonight. [...]

[...] My psyche lives many lives physically, one after the other. If my present experience is dictated by that in my childhood, then surely my current life is a result of earlier ones.” [...]

(Because of the press of other matters following the 753rd session — my work doing the notes for Seth’s “Unknown” Reality, Jane’s involvement in writing a new introduction for one of her own books that’s coming out in a new paperback edition, and a stream of unexpected visitors — we didn’t hold any sessions for several weeks. [...]

[...] Later in the session Jane felt that Seth was taking her on a guided tour of Jerusalem, way back in the first century A.D. None of this consisted of book work, though, so the session remains in our files along with other material that we hope to publish one day.

[...] I am not speaking of stance here, but of those invisible relationships mentioned earlier, for he felt earlier as if he were literally a self divided, so that one part shouted discipline, and one shouted spontaneity. One shouted go ahead, one shouted slow down, be cautious, and these feelings of separateness were reflected in the body.

There is no one reason. There are several issues involved, however, and if all of them are activated at one time, then the blues results.

[...] If all of these issues click in one day, then his mood is more severe, but usually one or two operate.

[...] So I asked that we get some info on my Roman captain life, since we’d been talking about that one.

(Very long pause at 8:13, one of many.) I have most of the material we need now, but must also organize it so that it has the most therapeutic effect possible, and so that it clears Ruburt’s understanding in emotional, intuitive as well as intellectual ways. No one is at the mercy of past negative events. [...]

[...] An impossible task, of course, but one I’m acutely aware of these days. One small example: As usual, if it wasn’t for my own demands and suggestions, this session wouldn’t even exist—whereas to my way of thinking Jane should have demanded to have it on her own. [...]

[...] This is one of the facets of the whole symptom business that has always puzzled me no end. [...]

(After supper Jane said she felt “loads of material from Seth” about our discussion this afternoon, and that it would take up not one but many sessions. [...]

Remember that in one way, your physical existence is the result of mass hallucination. Vast gulfs exist between one man’s reality and another’s. After death, experience has as much organization, highly intricate and involved, as you know now. [...] Such hallucinations as I have been speaking of, intense symbolistic encounters, can also occur in your sleep states, when the personality is at a time of great change, or when opposing ideas must be unified, or if one must give way to another. [...]

Certain images have been used to symbolize such a transition from one existence to another, and many of these are extremely valuable in that they provide a framework with understandable references. The crossing of the River Styx is such a one. [...]

At one time — in your terms — I myself acted as such a guide; as in a sleep state Ruburt now follows the same road. [...] One man’s Moses, as I discovered, may not be another man’s Moses. [...]

[...] The body itself may be viewed, for example, and many funerals have a guest of honor amidst the company — and no one gazes into the face of the corpse with as much curiosity and wonder.

The interior universe is at least as rich, varied and complicated as the exterior one. Dream reality is only one aspect of this inner universe, in the same way that our planet is only one of many others in a physical sky. [...]

[...] The first: ‘I will wake up after each of my first five dreams and record each one immediately.’ The second alternative wording would be the same as the one I have just given, but the ‘wake up’ would be omitted. [...]

[...] During one period of four nights, I recorded twenty-one dreams. [...]

[...] Seth maintains that we will understand ourselves as dreamers only if we are also aware of the larger environment in which dreams take place, that we interact in the dream state as we do in the waking one and that we form mass dream events as we form physical events on a mass basis.

[...] We are as I have told you going slowly, and yet the progression will be a steady one that rests upon disciplined sensitivities, without those possible dangers that can result when there is an overly intensive or fanatical attention to one line of focus, and a lack of disciplined understanding.

[...] This way we are assured of the cooperation of the whole self, and avoid any possibility of splitting one self, one part of the self, against another.

This is one of the main reasons why I advised Ruburt at one time to discontinue certain particular experiments, which I believe he can now handle.

[...] The experience involving your landlord, his wife and his deceased father, was a legitimate one; but one that I should like to use as an example for a rather long discussion of questions directly resulting from some recent sessions. [...]

[...] One face looks out upon one world [the dream reality] and one face looks out upon another world [the physical one].

[...] In the time available, he dwelt on one life in particular, during which he said Sonja had a cleft palate that impeded verbal communication. [...] He also said that Sonja loved color and fabric and that she used these as a method of communication in the past life as well as in this one. [...]

[...] Regular Seth sessions in the privacy of our living room were one thing. [...]

[...] Examining my feelings after the program and finding myself face to face with that energy, I realized that the same sort of energy, to a lesser degree, is one of my main cues that Seth is ready to come through.

The personal emotions and memories loosened, freed him; but the journey was necessarily destined by the particular emotions that powered it, and the destination was one, incidentally, familiar to the ego, and to some extent at least one to which both ego and subconscious were nostalgically connected.

This analogy is not a very good one however, since the child does eventually leave the parent, but it is a true one because the inner self does indeed leave the physical image with which the ego is so concerned, when it passes beyond the physical field.

[...] In writing out the last line of the session from Jane’s dictation, I took it for granted the information referred to one sale. Jane then told me, as soon as the session ended, that it referred to two sales; one now accomplished, and other future sales. [...]

Ruburt’s strategy was brilliant from one standpoint. [...]

It is a giant step and a vital one, for without it the personality would be at the mercy so to speak of the very energy of which he is composed. He must learn to organize and command it, and your plane is one of the many where he gains practice and discipline in this respect. [...]

It is one thing to recognize that your particular camouflage patterns are part of reality and another to realize that there is a reality that is independent of your camouflage patterns. One of my purposes is to enable you not only to recognize but experience this independent reality, and again the use of psychological time in a correct manner will be an invaluable aid.

[...] After each turn through the living room, Jane had been pausing to look out one of our windows at the rather busy intersection of Water and Walnut Streets, one house away. [...]

[...] No one would have to teach you about the oneness of all living things, or the brotherhood of man. [...]

[...] (One minute pause.) And toward your hand. [...] Another one minute pause.) And now toward the whole physical image.

[...] A one minute pause, eyes closed.)

[...] (One minute pause.)

With your inner consents, I have been making some adjustments in your own energy fields, that will be more beneficial and allow you both to benefit from the good suggestions given, one to the other.

[...] An understandable-enough resolution, I said, and one I couldn’t argue with basically, since such a course could logically be the one chosen by some personalities—but it was also one that I didn’t choose at this time. [...]

[...] Seth had recently said the hospital experience had been a traumatic one for Jane—so why was she doing again the very things that could lead to a return to that situation? [...] And once again, I’m the one who’s pushing you to use your own abilities to save yourself, meaning at least trying to learn what’s going on through the sessions, for example. [...] But it’s impossible for one person to save another if they don’t want it that way.” [...]

(Her statement represented an important point, one that I wasn’t too sharp in appreciating at the moment, so poor was my own outlook. I would like to deviate from the session notes here, and comment that sometimes typing this material several days after it’s been given isn’t easy: One’s ideas change, to such a degree even that opinions and feelings of even a few days ago can seem mightily out of place. [...]

(A one-minute pause.) There is no condition that love cannot improve. [...]

You felt inferior to your own comprehension, for one thing. The colors were more brilliant than any physical ones, and so in a fashion you ended up trying a too-literal translation—too literal because a real translation would require colors and even symbols that you do not have on a physical basis. [...]

(At first Jane and I thought of calling this session a deleted one—but its subject matter fits into Dreams too well for us to do that.

This morning I tried to rough-in a small oil painting of myself standing before one of those walls of crystal color I’d seen in the dream. [...]

The colors of which you are aware represent a very small portion of light’s entire spectrum, just physically speaking, but the spectrum you recognize represents only one inconceivably small portion of other fuller spectrums—spectrums that exist outside of physical laws.

[...] In the 687th session, Seth stated: “I am saying that the individual self must become consciously aware of far more reality; that it must allow its recognition of identity to expand … move beyond the concepts of one god, one self, one body, one world, as those ideas are currently understood.”

[...] If you can think of your present idea of identity as if it were but one shape or one motion of a moving particle, a shape or a motion that never loses its imprint or meaning, then you could also see how you could follow it forward or backward to the shape or motion taken “before or afterward.”

Give us a moment … Physicists know that waves can appear as particles upon certain conditions, and that particles can behave like waves.³ So moments as you understand them are like waves experienced as “particles” — as small bubbles, for example, each one breaking and another forming. [...]

Now: Many of these invisible particles (CU’s) can be in more than one place at a time — a fact that quite confounds the physically tuned brain perceiving a world in which objects stay where they are supposed to be.

[All That Is] did not separate itself from those worlds, however, for they were created from its thoughts, and each one has divine content. The worlds are all created by that divine content, so that while they are on the one hand exterior, they are on the other also made of divine stuff, and each hypothetical point in your universe (pause) is in direct contact with All That Is in the most basic terms. [...]

(10:08.) For one thing, while individualized consciousness was within the massive subjectivity of All That Is, it enjoyed, beside its own uniqueness, a feeling of supporting unity, a comforting knowledge that it was one with its source. [...]

In “Unknown” Reality, then, Seth’s material on the sleepwalkers heralded one of the main themes of Dreams, which he began five years later. Dreams was unsuspected by us then, of course; so what books to come will have their genesis in this one?

Theoretical physicists have charted (assuming that the big-bang origin of the universe was a hot event) how the first explosion may have “evolved” from one with a temperature well in excess of 100,000 million degrees Kelvin into a cooler one of “only” a few thousand degrees Kelvin around 500,000 years later, so that atoms could begin to form.
