(9:35.) At this level, messages literally flash through the centuries from one great man or woman to another. The future speaks to the past. The great artists have always been able to communicate at this level and while living literally operated at this level of consciousness a good deal of the time. Only the most exterior portions of their personalities bowed to the dictates of historical period.

A-4 brings you to a level that is beneath matter formations, a level in which ideas and concepts can be perceived, although their representations do not appear in the present physical reality that you know.

Now any individual can pass through these levels and remain relatively untouched and unaware, can travel through them unperceiving. The overall intentions and characteristics of the personality will determine the quality of perception and understanding. The material mentioned is available in each of the levels of consciousness given, but it must be sought out, either through conscious desire or strong unconscious desire. If it is not, then the gifts available and the potentials simply remain unused and unclaimed.

On a particular level however this makes little difference, because such communications are carried on constantly at subconscious levels, seldom reaching ego awareness, so that individuals are subconsciously conditioned—and underline subconsciously conditioned—therefore expecting, all unknown to the ego, such communications when certain chemical changes come about; since these chemical changes also occur for other reasons when these conditions occur, on a practical level communications will then most easily happen. [...]

[...] When our next session arrives I will discuss the furthermost level of the subconscious from the present ego, the particular advantage of the undifferentiated levels, and at least begin a discussion of dreams and the types of dreams that spring from the various levels.

[...] As there are levels of unconsciousness or subconsciousness, so do each of these levels have their own activities and translate, symbolize and often distort valid data, according to the different degree of subconsciousness through which the data were able to emerge.

The events of your lives are in part caused by the psychological results of that level of consciousness, but only in part. [...] Events are formed then by various levels of consciousness intersecting. The mixture of those levels of consciousness, and their points of intersection, are up to you.

[...] Your psychological life is composed of many different levels of consciousness of varying classifications. You might say that perceivable events are composed of a conglomeration of certain levels of consciousness tuned in to form an event, say, instead of an object.

(9:35.) The general world level of consciousness can serve as a springboard, so that you use it as a base only while the intimate webwork of your own psychological reality uses finer creative levels of consciousness. [...]

[...] Difficult to explain, yet at levels “beneath” matter, incipient matter was being manipulated. [...] At certain levels the “matter” of the body is “plastic.” Only at your level is it “relatively rigid.” [...]

[...] Actually at these other levels, a Sumari physician was helping him. [...] At last he was receiving some information and help from a level he had wondered about.

[...] Actually the body was being changed, but at a level beneath ordinary body awareness, at prematerial structure.

[...] It is highly important to remember that your experience and knowledge grow at those other levels of actuality. [...] Those usual events arise from the creative impetus that occurs at these other levels.

Dreams, then, operate as vast mass communicative networks, far more effective at certain levels of the psyche than, for example, television is at a physical level.

[...] You still take advantage of that level of being, however, using that immeasurable data as a basis to form the reality that you know.

Or it may be used as a step leading to an adjacent level of consciousness; two steps away, therefore, on the same level from normal reality. [...]

The first state, A-1-a, is the most practical and the easiest for you, but often you must still have a good feeling for the A-1 level before you are willing to take that next adjacent step. [...] Remember, these are all adjacent levels, going out horizontally.

[...] But one step away from this is another level of consciousness into which you all slip without knowing. [...]

(It might be worth noting here that many sessions ago Seth stated he was substituting the word “area” for “level,” when a reference to the subconscious was made. The reason being that the subconscious is not divided into neat levels, but is made up of many interconnecting and complicated corridors, rooms, etc.

[...] Dreams, having an electrical reality as I explained, must be decoded to have meaning to various levels of the subconscious and the personality. [...]

The various levels of the subconscious and the personality are attuned to the particular intensities of the dream experience which they can perceive and interpret, and which has meaning to them. [...]

The alpha level is undifferentiated. [...] Into this area come signs and portents from deeper levels of the personality.

[...] At other levels, however, these are separated. [...]

[...] The multidimensional symbol in its entirety, then, has a reality in other states of consciousness, but also at other levels of reality entirely.

(9:51.) The point of power exercise can be utilized from these other levels, where the inner mobility is then seen “rising upward”. It would help if at those levels he imagined his body as plastoid, always in a state of change, as fluid as his thoughts, and not so much a physical thing. [...]

[...] In certain stages of consciousness, beliefs can be changed more easily, but there must be of course an insertion from the normal egotistical level in most (underlined) instances.

[...] The energy for the beliefs comes from other levels, of course. [...]

Consciousness at different levels or stages perceives different kinds of events. In order to perceive some of these you have only to learn to change the focus of your attention from one level to another. [...]

[...] Here a great creative synthesis and a great creative diversification takes place, in which any given dream image has meaning to various layers of the self — on one level representing a truth you have lived and on other levels representing this truth as it is more specifically applied to various areas of experience or problems. [...]

[...] You do this individually, but you also do it en masse on national and global levels.

Dreams, then, come from various levels of what you call the subconscious. But as a rule any particular dream, although it originates in a particular level, will nevertheless have meaning on all levels. [...] That is, the particular dream may be a method of saying different things or bringing different messages, the one particular dream automatically being translated by the various levels of the subconscious in terms of the interpretation given by any particular subconscious level to the dream symbolism.

I will end the session shortly, after mentioning briefly an example of how various levels of the subconscious interpret a symbol. We will take Ruburt’s dream that we have already interpreted on some levels, and one symbol only, that of a tub, t-u-b.

The tub was the unifying symbol of the dream, interpreted by the various levels of the subconscious. On the most superficial level, dreaming Ruburt thought “One day I shall be an old tub,” meaning an old worn-out vessel. [...]

[...] At certain levels the species is always creatively embarked upon alternate versions of itself. [...] What you think of as diseases, however, are quite creative elements working at different levels, and at many levels at once.

At the minute levels — microscopic levels — there are always some biological experiments being carried out, in a creative effort to give the species as much leeway as possible for effective action. [...]

[...] In a way (underlined) in each body, the species settles upon a known status quo, and yet experiments creatively at many levels with cellular alterations, chromosomal variations, so that of course each body is unique. [...]

None of that is the intellect’s concern at an intellectual level. At a biological level, and at an electromagnetic level, the intellect, of course, performs feats that it cannot consciously know through the use of its reason (all intently). [...]

[...] Their reasoning is applied, however, to levels of activity to which your own reasoning is not applied. [...]

[...] (Long pause.) At each moment, from the most microscopic levels the body (pause) in one way or another is ascertaining a constant picture of its position within physical reality. [...]

Thursday 12:20—What I like about all this is that I FEEL that the head area—which is clearing all day and week—is the basic area in which everything started; even the slowness; and that all of that is in the process of clearing—that, the physical stuff PLUS, this AM the feeling I’m doing stuff at creative inspirational levels too; figured out important stuff about James for example—and I FEEL that my recovery can be easy—automatic—and that it only seems that the “body needs time” etc. when you’re at that level—and that.... [...]

[...] end up with extraordinary energy and physical vitality—plus refreshed abilities; as if today things are progressing at other than conscious levels and I’m doing lots that I’m not aware of. [...]

(Pause at 10:19.) As racial problems may be worked out on many levels, through a riot or a natural disaster, or a combination of both, according to the intensity of the situation on a psychological level; and as physical symptoms can be pleas for help and recognition, so can natural misfortunes be utilized by members of one portion of the country, or one part of the world, to obtain aid from other portions.

Now: Natural disasters are brought about more at an emotional level than at a belief level, though beliefs have an important part to play, for they generate the emotions to begin with.

(10:09.) On quite a different level, riots often serve the same purpose, where the release of energy, for whatever reasons, introduces a group of individuals to the intimate recognition that highly concentrated vitality exists. [...]

(Pause, one of many, at 9:49.) There are levels within dreams, highly pertinent but mainly personal, in that they reflect your own private intents and purposes. There are other levels, further away in your terms, that involve mass behavior on a psychic level, where together the inhabitants of the physical world plan out future events. [...]

There are too many levels here to discuss all at once … One such level reinforces a trust in himself. [...]

In the dream state and in certain other levels of reality, ideas and their symbols are immediately experienced. [...]

These levels of consciousness are only preliminaries to another state that I have reached but seldom. In this state your intellect, intuitions, and entire being operate at a level that is really supranormal. [...]

[...] You are still exploring the topmost levels of your personality, and you do not have the benefit of those altered states of consciousness that occur when you look into yourself in the manner I have prescribed.

[...] You must learn, through experience, to maintain the proper level of consciousness, and there is always the possibility of falling back to the usual dream state.

[...] Look at the other levels of consciousness from which you have come. Now very slowly, come back to the previous level, and keep coming down each step slowly until you reach again the original A-I from which you began. [...]

Now imagine anything that you choose but have a line or a platform that represents Alpha I. Have it in your mind as a symbol of adjacent consciousness at the same level, perhaps, as your eyes. [...]

Now, at A-I, realize that all these other levels of consciousness are also available from that threshold, and later you will be instructed more clearly as to their use. [...]

Considerable confusion can result if a dream from one level of the subconscious is interpreted in the light of data which belongs to another level entirely. [...]

For one thing, and I will go into this deeper shortly, those who now know existence on the physical level more or less because of certain cycles lived before on the physical level at about the same historical periods. [...]

[...] The preliminary discussion of the subconscious layers was necessary, since dreams originate in these various levels, and should therefore be interpreted according to the particular symbolisms inherent in the realm of reality to which they may belong.
