“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(We were by now more used to our new schedule, and felt more alert for the sessions. By 8:50 this evening Jane was nervous, as usual, having no idea of Seth’s subject matter for the session.

(“Good evening, Seth.”

I am actually quite honored by my reception. You did not always greet me so kindly. You and I fell to fistfights upon a few occasions. Nor would such weighty material have appealed to you then. For that matter, neither would it have appealed to me.

Any scientific personage of your generation will immediately panic at such suggestions as I am making. You are so taken up with your precious camouflage patterns, and so unfamiliar with the inner propulsion behind all such materializations, that it will be a while before any headway is made.

There is only a relatively small layer of personal material, and therefore egotistical and distortive material, at the upper reaches of the subconscious. This layer can be quickly recognized, as a rule. Ruburt recognizes it now, and he is no scientist or psychologist. For the record, you understand that I am referring to egotistical material as that portion that is concerned with the outer camouflage-oriented personality, and that the stronger inner ego actually represents the power and ability behind the outer ego.

Now. Directly, so to speak, beneath this personal material in the subconscious, is racial material which could be of great value to psychologists in their study of racial histories, and resulting psychological differences of the various races. Underneath this is material dealing with the species as a whole, with its background, evolution and inner knowledge.

Beneath this, pure and simple, undistorted, there for the searching, absolutely free for the asking, is the knowledge inherent in the inner self pertaining to the inner universe as a whole, its laws and principles, its composition. Here you will find, undistorted, uncamouflaged, the innate knowledge of the creation of the camouflage universe, the mechanics involved, much of the material that I have given you, the method and ways by which the inner self as a basic inhabitant of the inner universe, existing in the climate of psychological reality, helps create the various planes of existence, constructs outer senses to project and perceive the various apparent realities or camouflages, how the inner self reincarnates on the various planes. Here you will find your answers as to how the inner self transforms energy for his own purposes, changes his form, adopts other apparent realities, and all this free for the investigation.

(Break at 10:23. I was of course aware that regular break time had passed some while ago. For one thing, my right hand was quite cramped. Indeed it was almost painful, and I would have been forced to call a halt soon in any case. I also believe that while taking down part of the above material I was in something of a light trance state; sometime after our regular break period had passed, I seemed to become aware that I had been writing steadily without any awareness, or very little, of the material I was taking down.

(Jane was fully dissociated. She said she thought Seth kept her going until he had gotten all of the above material through. Usually she does not reach full dissociation until the second break.

(During the day Jane called the hospital to try to verify the information Seth had given us on the condition of Miss Callahan. See the 44th session, page 17. She learned instead that a week or so previously Miss Callahan’s relatives had moved her to a rest home. The hospital did not know which rest home. To me this implied that Miss Callahan was in better condition, but Jane said she felt otherwise, that Seth’s material here was not distorted.

With practice the personal distortive layers of subconscious material could be recognized without difficulty, and even these will give you valuable insights into psychological mechanisms.

I will give you some material before I am through. The experiments will only have to be tried and their validity will speak for itself. If I can get Ruburt over his sometimes cussed hardheadedness, his belligerent egotistical blunderings, then he can perform feats that will more than show the validity of my statements. To think that I am to some admittedly large extent dependent upon his development! (exclamation point).

(Break at 11:15. Jane ended the monologue with another blow upon the desk. She was fully dissociated—way out, she said. She felt Seth was ready to talk about the American Society for Psychic Research; but she was so afraid of making a mistake that she couldn’t let the material come through yet.

(Seth, she said, could go on for hours. The break was only for my benefit, to rest my hand. Where it had bothered me earlier, I now felt no discomfort however. When Jane began dictating again she immediately took up with her very energetic and forceful manner. Resume at 11:17.)

Without your confidence and intuitive affirmation, much of this material would be blocked on Ruburt’s part, Joseph, and Ruburt depends strongly upon inner strengths that you possess, and of which you are mainly ignorant. We will go into the mechanisms involved in our gestalt at a later time, and we will make the whole matter plain.

We are working slow in some respects, but building a firm foundation. Experiments will be conducted, for example, as far as traveling through your camouflage space is concerned; and not only will this traveling be effected, but the physical form must be apparent to others in two places at once, so to speak. Material must be carefully gathered by the personality in its secondary location, to make such experiments effective in scientific circles.

I want to go into discussion as to actual experiments that can be conducted in laboratories, with definite, valid results. Telepathy is one, of course, but eventually it should be disconnected from camouflage physical material.

(It will be remembered that Seth has made many references to the fact that the three of us lived in the city of Triev, Denmark, in the 1600’s.)

(Miss Dineen gave Jane information evidently confirming Seth’s prediction that April 15 would be a day of crisis for Miss Callahan. Without going into all the details about Seth, Jane learned from Miss Dineen that in the middle of that week, which would be on April 15, Miss Callahan’s condition became so bad that hospital officials insisted she be moved to a rest home as soon as possible. Miss Callahan required constant care, which the hospital could not provide.
