(Below, Seth discusses a projection experience of Jane’s on Friday, May 9, that involved her perception of my astral presence in the apartment although I was at work at Artistic Card Company that day.)

[...] Again, the male who was intuitive or artistically gifted in certain ways often therefore considered himself homosexual, whether or not he was, because his emotional and mental characteristics seem to fit the female rather than the male sex.

[...] And the artist’s name was Van Elver. [...]

[...] The artistic ability is connected with the detailed drawings done in the past.

[...] The conversation was unusual in that the worker explained how the artist drew his face as though it was symmetrical, whereas in reality it is quite asymmetrical, with an impaired eye.

[...] It will be recalled that the worker described a portrait drawn of him while he was in the service; and that the artist making the portrait drew him with a symmetrical face, whereas his face is decidedly not symmetrical.

In my notes introducing Volume 1, I wrote about placing the basic “artistic ideas” embodied in the Seth material at our conscious, aesthetic, and practical service in daily life. [...]

“As an artist alone your purpose is expression, which involves disclosures, the difference between the ideal and the actual. [...]

(10:54.) It is highly advantageous to consider yourself a writer or an artist, and pursue those goals. [...]

If in your private subjective reality you label yourself, unthinkingly now, in too-limited a fashion, then you can see yourself for example as the isolated artist at the brunt of society, the misunderstood poet that must be protected from the world’s ways—mythic material that falls short. [...]

[...] Often they cannot discriminate between good work or poor work, artistically. [...]

[...] Better that than have you tied to that job at Artistic for any longer a time. [...]

Your father represented what you thought of as the secret, isolated creative self—more or less at odds with the world, unappreciated by it in family or financial terms; the alone, artistic self you thought unable to communicate, inarticulate and dumb, locked away from close communication with others, and indeed barraged by misunderstandings because of its very creativity—emotionally frozen, afraid to show itself.

In the dream state the actors become aware to some extent of the parts they play, and sense the true personal identity that is behind the artist’s craft. [...]
