[...] The result was a nine-page poem called Dialogues of the Speakers, which may or may not continue into a book. This is the way the book of poetry that I finished early in March, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time, began.

(Today Jane wrote two poems — one of them several pages long — that, she said, fit into the scheme of her potential book of poetry, Dialogues of the Speakers. [...]

(As tonight Jane showed the Leahys Dialogues; just as she’d shown it to the Bumbalos just before supper.

[...] They open up dialogues between various portions of the self, and of course bring these to the surface, amplified for your conscious attention. [...] The pendulum also serves of course as a dialogue between the two of you at various levels, conscious and unconscious. [...]

8. Strange — but recently I visually approached the idea of interrelated consciousnesses in two pen-and-ink drawings for Jane’s book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time: I incorporated humanoid features on large rocks. [...]

I’ve completed finished art for only 15 of the 40 drawings planned for Dialogues, but have done extensive work on many of those remaining. [...]

(Last Thursday I finished the final pen-and-ink drawing of the 40 I’d planned for Jane’s book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time.¹ I spent Friday checking the batch, then on Saturday morning I mailed them to Tam Mossman, Jane’s editor at Prentice-Hall. [...]

1. I was about a month behind schedule in finishing the illustrations for Dialogues; see Note 1 for the 705th session. [...]

[...] During break for the 726th session, which was held on December 16, 1974, I wrote that we planned to start looking for a house of our own as soon as I finished the illustrations for Dialogues. Our need for a certain kind of privacy and quiet has become very strong. [...]

[...] Instead of any of those things, the imagined dialogue — if there is any — may suddenly change from the dialogue that you remember; or the entire scene and action may quickly alter. [...]

(11:43 P.M. An aside: Lately I’d delayed typing these sessions from my notes because I’ve been so busy doing the finished pen-and-ink drawings for Jane’s Dialogues. [...]

[...] Once we were caught up I’d read her the Seth material received each week on the succeeding Saturday or Sunday until I got back to the twice-weekly routine of transcribing, early next year; I expect to do the last of the Dialogues illustrations late in January 1975.)

Dialogues (see the 639th session in Chapter Ten) is now a book, just completed, but it also represented a movement of the self through a question-and-answer format, through which Ruburt recognized and faced many diverse beliefs. Each reader can utilize the same method whether or not artistic achievement is also involved, through objectifying personal beliefs in a dialogue form. [...]

(Yesterday Jane received from her publisher the galley proofs for her book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time.¹ The story of that work’s creation is interwound throughout Personal Reality.

[...] For weeks after her admittance in April, I didn’t know if Jane would ever do any “psychic” work again, but three months later she surprised me by beginning a series of dialogues similar to the “world-view” material she’d produced for her books on the psychologist and philosopher William James, and the artist Paul Cézanne. [...]

[...] From two perspectives she rather briefly describes one such episode, which actually lasted several hours, in her Dialogues, and in Adventures in Consciousness.⁵

5. Jane deals with her profound alteration of consciousness in Part 2 of Dialogues: “The Paper and Trips Through an Inner Garden,” and in Chapter 9 of Adventures.

(Today I finished the 23rd drawing [out of 40] for Jane’s Dialogues.)

[...] Even as the dialogue of those islands took place, the islands themselves were changing. [...]

[...] It had started in mid-afternoon after she had received an OK from Tam Mossman re the publication of her book of poetry, Dialogues — at least as far as Tam is concerned. [...]

[...] Seth did discuss my dream of last night, explaining in some detail how I’d busily constructed a second dream self so that I could carry on a dialogue expressing creative impatience with myself: I was eager to embark upon new ventures in painting and writing, even while I was recording Mass Events for Jane and Seth, and preparing for publication.)
