[...] What opposites, what contrasts, what fascinations! [...]

(To me:) You viewed aspects — counterparts — of your father’s reality. That reality invades no other. As in the analogy given this evening, the spirit of no island invaded any other, but looked momentarily and with permission through another’s picture of reality.

(Heartily:) What a transformation! [...] It meets the spirit of the first island that has been living there, and says: “What a change! [...]

What peace! Yet in the peace, what power! [...]

[...] He has been used to the trance, and of course with what you call the normal waking state, and has not happened to become acquainted with this transition phase. [...] Otherwise however it does not allow efficient behavior in any particular reality.

What we are looking for here, and indeed one of the purposes of our sessions, is efficient use of various portions of the self in the perceptions of their own realities, and of an overall perception of each of the various portions of the self by the whole self, which transcends the others even while it is composed of them.

The state into which Ruburt fell as a rule allows no such focus in either reality, but a suspension. [...] He was beginning to wonder himself, and since it is his first real experience with it as an isolated state, it is understandable that he did not recognize it for what it is.

[...] (Long pause.) What we would like is the ability to fully perceive both the inner world and the outer world, to alternate between them. [...] Or we should be in the other and know ourselves in it; and finally, while we are in one reality, we should be able, even in it, to hold our knowledge of the other. [...]

[...] You will find your way through complicated mazes of reality according to your own intuitional nature. You will find what you expect to find. You will seek out what you want from the available data.

There is constant translation of inner reality into objects in the waking state and a constant translation of ideas into pseudo-objects in the dream state. Within a certain range of dream reality, ideas and thoughts can be translated into pseudo-objects and transported. This is what happens when you adopt a pseudo-form in projection, though I am simplifying this considerably.

[...] But we must struggle to discover what these are as opposed to the hallucinatory images we set up ourselves against or superimposed upon this reality.

In your journeys into inner reality, you cannot proceed with these same root assumptions. Reality, per se, changes completely according to the basic root agreements that you accept. One of the root agreements upon which physical reality is based is the assumption that objects have a reality independent of any subjective cause and that these objects, within definite specified limitations, are permanent.

But although for Politics Jane drew upon the same transcendent experience I described in the opening notes for the 715th session, she did so in her own subjective way; in “Unknown” Reality I present my version of the event from an observer’s viewpoint. [...] I think they’re both well worth having on record, since Jane’s experience was a profound one — and, in my opinion, very revealing for what it tells us about how we ordinarily view our mundane physical reality, and about the much more powerful versions, or “models,” for that reality that exist behind it.

[...] I found two sources in Seth Speaks. In Chapter 7, see the 530th session for May 20, 1970, at 10:02: “There are realities that are ‘relatively more valid’ than your own … your physical table [for example] would appear as shadowy in contrast … You would have a sort of “supertable” in those terms. Yours is not a system of reality formed by the most intense concentration of energy … Other portions of yourself, therefore, of which you are not consciously aware, do inhabit what you could call a super-system of reality in which consciousness learns to handle and perceive much stronger concentrations of energy….”

(At a slower pace:) He is consciously entering into another room of the psyche, and also entering into the reality that corresponds to it. [...] In such a way Ruburt is able to physically perceive what he is doing in his “library.”

He has been working with me for some time, in your terms, yet I do not “control” his subjective reality in any way. I have certainly been a teacher to him.⁹ Yet his progress is always his own challenge and responsibility, and basically what he does with my teaching is up to him. [...]

[...] Perhaps Seth likes some of those other versions of ourselves more than he does us. ( I didn’t ask him if I was right, though.) It might even be that his favorite Jane inhabits one probable reality, his favorite Rob another. [...] What age differences are there among us? In which reality did we produce the “best” version of “Unknown” Reality? The worst? Moreover — what do all of those other Janes and Robs think of their Seths? [...]

Now that is what I have been doing as far as your reality is concerned — that is, in my relationship with you. It is a multidimensional version of what Ruburt does in simple terms when he writes a book of his own.³

In your reality, the “Unknown” Reality we have just finished is the only version of that manuscript. [...] When we are working on such a project here (in your reality), we are working on probable books also, and those are as real as your official one. [...] So we have been working on a probable “Unknown” Reality — in fact, on many probable “Unknown” Realities. Not mere versions, but variations.

Now: In a way, it is quite difficult to tell you what I have been doing with my time (humorously emphatic) while I have been involved in the production of “Unknown” Reality — and therefore, to some extent at least, inclined toward your time.²

[...] So entranced is your concentration, that when you wonder about the nature of reality you automatically confine your question to this one small flickering moment that you call physical reality. [...] That light is unique, and if you truly understood what it was, you would indeed understand the nature of true reality.

[...] For if you are intensely preoccupied with what may seem to be one infinitesimally minute aspect of reality, and while you seem to be completely embedded within it, only the most “surface” elements of the self are so entranced. I do not like the term “surface” in this regard, though I have used it to suggest the multitudinous portions of the self that are otherwise engaged — some of them as entranced in their reality as you are in yours.

[...] Now within the physical reality that you know, there are hints and clues as to the nature of other physical realities. [...] Now I have been speaking of earthly developments, realities therefore clustered about earthly aspects as you know them.

(9:35.) There are, therefore, many other equally valid, equally real evolutionary developments that have occurred and are occurring and will occur, all within other probable systems of physical reality. The diverse, endless possibilities of development possible could never appear within one slender framework of reality.

What is the point in learning to use the Inner Senses? [...] You will learn what reality is. … What is not understood is that self-investigation initiates states of consciousness with which you are usually not familiar. [...]

What Seth is saying here is that the inner self uses this sense to initiate the birth of one of its personalities in physical life. It may also have a part to play in some mediumistic activities on the part of the surviving personality who wishes to communicate, and it may be used in out-of-body experiences that involve other than physical reality.

What Seth is alluding to is that the practice of Psy-Time does stretch normal consciousness. [...]

[...] Momentarily you are aware of your multidimensional reality. [...]

Past associations merge with present reality and form a pattern. [...] To some extent these images experience “what will happen” if you yourself take one direction or the other. [...] Street Four becomes your physical reality. [...]

[...] I don’t care whether we get stuff on “Unknown” Reality, or personal material, or what. [...]

[...] Politicians try to predict what other governments will do. Ordinary people try to predict what their government might do.

[...] Within you there are blueprints; you know what you are to achieve as individuals and as people, as a race, as a species. [...] Now: Using your free will, you have made physical reality something quite different than what was intended. [...] You were to work out problems and challenges, but you were always to be aware of your own inner reality, and of your nonphysical existence. [...] You have focused so strongly upon physical reality that it becomes the only reality that you know.

[...] You form your own dreams, and you form your own physical reality. The world is what you are. [...] But if God cannot be objectified, what about Christ? [...]

As mentioned earlier, however, the Seth Material does not ignore deeper questions having to do with the “beginning” of consciousness and of reality. [...] For this reason I am continuing this chapter with excerpts from sessions 426, 427, and 428, where Seth began with a fuller explanation of space, time, and probable realities and then led us, step by step, into a discussion of God.

“The camouflage is so craftily executed and created by the inner self that you must, of necessity, focus your attention in the physical reality which has been created. The psychedelic drugs alter the neurological workings, and therefore can give some slight glimpses into other realities.

As mentioned (in the 614th session in Chapter Two), the first important step is to realize that your beliefs about reality are just that — beliefs about reality and not necessarily attributes of reality. [...] What you believe to be true in your experience is true. [...]

[...] The displaced powers of consciousness are still being assigned to the unconscious, and great efforts are being made to reach what seem to be normally inaccessible areas of awareness. [...] It can all be quite conscious, and utilized to enrich the reality that you know. [...] It can quite freely focus into inner reality when you understand that it can. [...]

(A one-minute pause at 9:59.) It is your method of assessing temporal experience according to the beliefs that it holds about the nature of reality. [...] I cannot say this often enough: Your beliefs form your reality, your body and its condition, your personal relationships, your environment, and en masse your civilization and world.

[...] Only then could he examine it, you see, without qualm, and without being aware of the living voice that protested (Jane now spoke in a much louder and deeper voice temporarily); and so in his great fascination for what made things work, in his great curiosity to understand the heredity of a flower, say, he forgot what he could [also] learn by smelling a flower, looking at it, watching it be itself.

[...] Those histories did not tell of the human beings who had to know what insects would crawl or fly from one end of a continent to another, so that they could be captured and roasted and eaten. They did not speak of the human beings who had to know what migrations of animals would roam through their land — and when and where, and at what phase of the moon — lest they starve….

It has to do with the mass beliefs that people chose at various times, and the different roads that were taken in your reality. Any road taken in your reality should — but does not — tell you one thing: By the very fact that you have chosen a particular road, you can be sure that other roads, entirely different, have also been taken.

According to your intent, your desire, and your beliefs, your ideas intersect with the reality that you know, with physical space and physical time — they become real, in historic terms. In other realities there are different historical terms. [...]

[...] See what your mind learns from the words. See what you learn that is not in the words. [...]

[...] What you see and experience physically represents but a small portion, a mere fraction of what reality is. [...]

It isn’t what you see, and yet what you see is it. [...] What you term death is an action. [...]

[...] You form your image and the physical matter of your environment, and these, being action, are perceived as reality in other systems. They may not be perceived as physical objects, but as reality that conforms to the particular camouflage structure within.

[...] You form the reality, the shape, of thoughts, for they have shape, in much the same way that you breathe; and you have as little control of them, once you have created them, as you have of your breath.

What do you think this physical universe is? [...] What you really believe about these things causes much of your behavior. You’ll feel safe or panic-stricken, happy or sorrowful, secure or insecure, according to your private view of reality.

[...] Instead we form matter in order to operate in three-dimensional reality, develop our abilities and help others. [...] Without realizing it we project our ideas outward to form physical reality. Our bodies are the materialization of what we think we are. [...]

“In your system of reality you are learning what mental energy is, and how to use it. [...] What seems to be a perception, an objective concrete event independent from you, is instead the materialization of your own inner emotions, energy, and mental environment.”

Throughout the centuries many people have recognized that mind and matter were related, but the Seth Material specifically gives the ways and means by which mind is translated into the reality that we know. Exactly what force is beneath the smallest units of matter, for example? [...]

[...] It is always with the facsimile of what we have heard that we begin our work, and in many guises and in many ways you are acquainted with our activities. [...] And yet you are even familiar with what comes out as what appears as my voice in your own traits and your own translations. [...] There are wonders here, wonders in your own reality, that we helped build in other ages in your time. [...]

(Class had been discussing dream realities, personality, etc., for about an hour; Gert and Sheila began talking back and forth on Sheila’s ideas on separate personalities, when Jane interrupted to say that she had one impression that the “hole in the universe” had opened up in Sam Levine’s house and a crowd of people were flying from it into the room. [...] We went into Alpha to see what we could get most of us had that impression of others in the room  and Jane got the words to a chant, which she wrote down. [...]

[...] And as I dwell in many realities, so dwell you in many realities. [...]

I tell you to examine what you see and what you hear, not only here in this room and in these classes, but to examine what you see in physical reality in your normal life. [...]

First, you must understand the nature of what you call reality. [...]

[...] If you would put aside these selves that you take for granted, you could experience your own reality, your own multidimensional reality. [...]

[...] There is a reality behind my words and this reality is yours—you have only to pursue it. [...]

You always know what you are doing, even when you do not realize it. [...] In the same way the world as you see it is a reflection of what you are, a reflection not in glass but in three-dimensional reality. You project your thoughts, feelings, and expectations outward, then you perceive them as the outside reality. [...]

[...] A certain part of my reality is a portion of a certain part of his reality, and here the creation of what I seem to be takes place.

[...] It is a natural product of what your consciousness is. Feelings and emotions emerge into reality in certain specific ways. [...]

You are aware, alert, and participating in many more realities than you know as your soul expresses itself through you. That consciousness of your usual daylight hours, the ego consciousness, rises up like a flower from the ground of the “underneath,” the unconscious bed of your own reality. [...]

[...] When you are a parent you can feel the child’s anger but you do not know what to do. [...] Therefore, you are forced to ask about the nature of reality. You are angry because you do not understand, as yet, the nature of reality and you have no answers but you can learn the proper questions. [...]

[...] Express yourself spontaneously with it, and let yourself go with it without telling yourself beforehand what you expect of it. [...] Enjoy them for what they are. [...]

[...] Five, representing the five fingers and the ways in which the hand itself, with the five fingers, can operate in physical reality. [...] They are objects, the five fingers, of manipulation in physical reality. [...]

([Ned:] “I realize what you are saying, this is what I have always thought. [...]

[...] By the time he is born he has already learned to accept his parents’ idea of what reality is. In a large sense he begins to train himself to focus only upon what you would call physical reality, though he still partially perceives other fields that you do not accept. He is only recognized and his wants satisfied, when he focuses in one particular reality. [...]

For some time he literally perceives many levels of reality at once, and part of what seems to be disorientation is simply the result of early confusion with so much data. [...] This adds to the confusion, and it is a matter of physical survival that he largely ignores these messages while he learns to focus in physical reality.

[...] He is aware of light and shadow, of shape and form, though he must learn to distinguish these portions from the available field of reality that you accept as objects, from the available field that you do not accept as objects.

[...] He hears sounds from the physical environment, but also sounds within the available range of reality that you do not accept. [...]

[...] Now, you form the physical reality that you know, individually and en masse, and to change the world that you know you must change your thoughts and to change them you must become consciously aware of what you tell yourself is true every moment of the day for that is your reality, and that is what you project outward. [...]

What happens is this—you have an attempt to exchange camouflage realities. [...] You then try to figure out what is happening from the sense data that is presented to you, but the sense data, you see, means that the event is already to some extent distorted. [...]

That is true, and also that you are projecting your ideas outward into physical reality and then often behaving as if those ideas were not yours but belonged to another. And, therefore, it behooves you to understand and know what these ideas and emotions and feelings are and not to be frightened of them. And I hope you understand what I mean or I shall be forced to go into another analogy about a flower. [...]

[...] In some respects these pulsations represent what happens in some of your flying saucer incidents, for you do not often have a vehicle such as the vehicle that you perceive, or think that you perceive. [...] In these cases you have visitors from other areas of actuality, other realities. [...]

Now, “There is no place to go" if you know what is truly meant by that statement. [...] They are the clothing over the basic reality.

The basic reality is indeed within the illusions. [...] Words are inadequate to explain what I mean here.

[...] They are all formed from inner vitality, which is the basic or ground reality. Many other systems reflect inner reality more clearly, with less distortions, but the distortions themselves are creations. [...]

Basic reality cannot know itself without creating diversity. The diversity is the various forms that reality takes, the various systems within which it expresses itself through projecting itself into infinite individualized experience. [...]
