[...] And so one by one, the inner senses can begin to operate so that what you see can become clear, and what you hear can become vocal and clear and strong. I want you to realize that you are getting glimpses of a reality that exists now, in your terms, that existed in the past and, in your terms, it will exist in the future. And a reality that is nevertheless instantaneous and as a part of you as your own heartbeat. [...] I want you to recognize the core of identity within yourselves that is familiar with this inner environment, for from your viewpoint other realities also open. [...]
When I use perceptions in your reality then I automatically translate inner data into physical terms, otherwise I am not limited to that kind of perception. I can view what you think of as that pot in many different ways for example. [...]
Now I want you to continue onward and in your mind visualize, if you prefer, still another door or a path or an avenue, or an alley, or a street, or a landscape; but still another reality that opens adjacently from this one. A reality that is involved with probabilities; and, as you glimpse that reality, you see that it is far vaster, and that it opens up into still other areas and fields and rooms. [...]
[...] And you also have a reality here; and this reality, to some extent, nurses your own existence and reaches down into the system that you know, even though you are usually not acquainted with this reality. [...]
[...] Nor was it connected with “Unknown” Reality. “I wrote down what I could snatch from the whole book,” she said, “but I knew that what I got was nothing compared to what was there. If I could have immediately spoken the whole thing, it would have been done at once — that’s what was so frustrating! [...]
(As quickly as she could once she became aware of what was happening that Sunday morning, Jane typed a 3-page summary or outline of the contents for The Way Toward Health, including chapter headings, then wrote a very condensed statement about how the whole thing came to her. We’re presenting the statement below, and a few examples from the outline, in order to show some of her other activities while producing “Unknown” Reality. [...]
[...] I know this new book has application to me most practically, too, giving methods of breaking out of my own patterns.2 Could feel the bulk and immediacy of the book, but also frustrated that what I’ve got down is so little and sketchy — WHEN IT’S ALREADY HERE. [...] Rob wondered if it’s part of “Unknown” Reality, but I don’t think so.”
(Jane had some other insights into Seth’s multiple channels as she continued dictating Personal Reality after that session,1 yet we continued to think of the new development as one of mostly theoretical interest. [...] Jane wrote at the time, then told me, that she almost felt “the book could be Personal Reality Number Two.” [...] That episode had taken place just before she delivered the 686th session for this volume of “Unknown” Reality, and is described in Appendix 5.
You will not learn it by trying to escape your own reality, or by attempting to dull your senses. This can only teach you what it means not to focus, and in whatever reality you visit the ability to focus clearly and well is a prerequisite. Once you learn how to really tune in, then you will understand what it means to change the direction of your focus.
[...] Many of you do not pay attention to your own experience, subjectively speaking, so you drift in and out of clear focus in this reality, barely realizing it. Often your daily program is not nearly as clear or well-focused as it should be, but full of static; and while this may annoy you, you often put up with it or even become so used to the lack of harmony that you forget what a clear reception is like. However, in this world you are surrounded by familiar objects, details, and ideas, and your main orientation is physical so that you can operate through habit alone even when you are not as well focused within your reality as you should be.
Each particular “station” of consciousness perceives in a different kind of reality, and as mentioned earlier (in Session 711, for instance), you usually tune in to your home station most of the time. [...] Each aspect of the psyche perceives the reality upon which it is focused, and that reality is also the materialization of a particular state of the psyche projected outward. You can learn to encounter other realities by altering your position within your own psyche.
[...] You cannot know when you are in focus with another reality if you do not even realize what it feels like to be in full focus with your own. [...]
Now, you see what you are willing to see, and it is stupidity to consider suggestion as the result or the cause of what you see. [...] You form your physical reality through suggestion and expectation. You experience what you expect to experience at a subconscious and a conscious level. [...] And you went beyond the point and lost what you might have seen. [...]
[...] and that can show joy, and show its existence and reality, that can call to you beyond space and time, that shows such energy, that shows you what energy can blow through such a small and slight frame... that self is a small part of my reality. [...] And that self can see through physical reality. And to that self, physical reality is like a breath of smoke in air ... [...]
[...] Now, there is a way—when you are involved in physical activity, and even intense mental work—to change the inner focus so that you are aware of two realities at once and can manipulate quite easily in the physical reality as you must. [...] And I want to know what he tells you for I want to see how he is delivering my suggestions. [...]
[...] What is your (TM) intuitive feeling? [...] How much reality does the portrait have for you? [...]
[...] At the time of the session, we didn’t know what probable selves were, though Seth had used the term once or twice in the past. What is a probable self? According to Seth, each of us has counterparts in other systems of reality; not identical selves or twins, but other selves who are part of our entity, developing abilities in a different way than we are here.
Seth told us quite a bit about this “man” that night, and described some of the methods he was using in an attempt to contact this reality. Seth said: “There are, in fact, infinite varieties of matter, existing in what you would call one space framework. [...]
[...] According to what Seth told us, this probable self is a Dr. Pietra. He is an older man in his system of reality than Rob is in ours, and while he is engrossed in his painting, this interest is subordinated to his medical work.
Here I want to include excerpts from three sessions in which Seth explains the difference between a physical event and a probable one, and the relationship between us and probable systems of reality. [...] Seth explains this relationship by saying that the two are related, like distant cousins.) He begins with what I think is an excellent description of the whole self or entire identity as it is related to this and other existences.
My idea briefly is this: Our usual orientation is focused pretty exclusively in what we think of as the “real” world, but there are many realities. By shifting our consciousness, we can glimpse these alternate realities, and all of them are the appearance that Reality takes under certain conditions. [...]
[...] It shows what was happening in my personal reality while Seth was writing his book on the subject, and reveals how the creative impetus splashes out into all areas of the personality. [...]
The Sumari development, along with the experiences connected with The Education of Oversoul 7 and The Nature of Personal Reality, brought up so many questions that I was forced to seek a larger framework in which to understand what was happening. [...]
[...] I had to read the manuscript to find out what was in it, for example; and to that extent the book doesn’t seem mine. But what does that mean?
[...] Tell yourself that you are doing well in the reality, that you are using your abilities, that you are helping your husband use his and that you have brought to birth an individual who will use his very well. [...] They come into reality with problems, but all of you come into reality with challenges that you have set ahead of time, in your terms. [...] They have many facets of reality and fulfill them often. [...]
[...] He lived in Germany in his reality. He was born in his reality in 1831 and died in 1897. [...] In out-of-body states, he projected into your reality. [...]
[...] Now, there is no reason why each of you cannot experience reality, why each of you cannot travel out of the dimensions that you know. Now, in doing so you will find that the personality is as different as, say, this table viewed from different angles and discover all facets of identity with which three-dimensional reality is by nature ignorant. [...] You can catch glimpses of your own multidimensional reality, but you must escape three-dimensional existence momentarily in order to do so. [...]
[...] They came to you because they wanted you to question the nature of reality more deeply than you have done so. [...] They have their own business to attend to and their own reality to meet and their own challenges to accept, but, they are coming to you so that you will be aware of their continued existence; and also so that you will be aware of the nature of your own inner self which is as free of your physical body now as they are. [...]
What your scientists have learned about the physical genes barely scratches the reality of diversity, even physically. [...] And all of this is but the physical materialization of the inner reality within one system.
[...] There is general and mass focus of all self-structures within that system, binding enough and cohesive enough so that the appearance of a permanent and all-pervading physical reality is maintained. The ego part of the structure concentrates with great intensity, directing itself within those coordinates that form physical reality.
[...] We are barely beginning to hint at their reality and importance. Every reality exists within unique coordinates. [...]
[...] She also said it disturbed the connection when she talked about what she had received.
Now, you have been what would now seem to you to be chaotic energy—forming universes. [...] You have traveled without knowing who or what you were as elemental particles of consciousness. [...] You have come a long way from undifferentiated chaos, in your present terms, to what you are. Notice, I did not say you came from undifferentiated chaos, but what you would now regard as that. [...]
[...] Even your thoughts are created and they affect realities of which you do not know. Your thoughts have electromagnetic realities in dimensions that you do not even perceive. Your dreams are realities in dimensions that you do not now perceive. Your entities have realities and dimensions that you do not perceive. [...]
Why should another man know better than you what is within your own consciousness? With what power do you invest him that he should know better than you the feelings that are within your own heart? And why do you find it so difficult to realize what those feelings are? [...]
You are endowing her with what you imagine to be highly efficient masculine qualities. You are endowing yourself with what you imagine to be feminine qualities. [...] So you are allowing yourself to behave in what you imagine to be a subservient, feminine behavior. [...]
Now return to the room, and open your eyes with wonder upon the physical reality that you have formed. Open your eyes, all of you, and test what you see against the inner reality that you know. [...]
Now feel, again within yourself, the birth and emergence of ever new energy so that it pulses within all the reality that you know. [...] And let all of you remember what you have learned, and where you have been. [...]
[...] Feel also within you the tremendous energy and vitality that gives existence to your physical image and propels the reality of your thoughts and images and gives any kind of reality to your dreams. [...]
[...] Pretend then that the room itself is a dream from which you are almost about to awaken, and with your eyes closed still, you will awaken from this room into another place and another time, and with your eyes closed you will awaken to another reality as valid and legitimate as this one. A reality in which you are intimately concerned and feel within yourselves the inner identity recognizing that which it now sees and perceives. [...]
(9:35.) You are as actively and vividly concerned in these realities as you are in the one in which your main attention is now focused. [...] The body, in other words, is simply one manifestation of what you are in one reality, but in these other realities you have other forms.
Some of these may involve the thoughts of what you would call a reincarnational self, focused in another period of history as you know it. [...] In other words, you may become aware of a far greater reality than you now know, use abilities that you do not realize you possess, know beyond all doubt that your own consciousness and identity is independent of the world in which you now focus your primary attention. [...]
[...] You communicate with people in other levels of reality that you have known, but far beyond this, you creatively maintain and revitalize your physical image. You process daily experience, project it into what you think of as the future, choose from an infinity of probable events those you will make physical, and begin the mental and psychic processes that will bring them into the world of substance.
Not only are you part of other independent selves, each one focused in its own reality, but there is a sympathetic relationship that exists. [...] You can learn to focus your attention away from physical reality, to learn new methods of perception that will enable you to enlarge your concept of reality and greatly expand your own experience.
[...] It seems as if you are on the outskirts of your own reality. [...] On the outside this would give you another reality. (Intently:) In it your “old” reality might still be somewhat perceivable as a ghost image,6 if you knew what to look for and remembered your former coordinates. On the inside, however, you would be traveling not around or about, but through one portion of the psyche with its reality, into another portion of the psyche with its reality. [...]
Give us a moment … The hat on the table, while possessing all of the necessary paraphernalia of reality for that scene, might also, however, serve as a different kind of reference point for one of the other programs simultaneously occurring. In that reality, say program two, the entire configuration of hat and table may be meaningless, while still being interpreted in an entirely different way from a quite different perspective. [...] Objects in your reality have an entirely different aspect in another. Any of the objects shown in the program you are watching, then, may be used as a different kind of reference point in another reality, in which those objects appear as something else.
[...] You were also intrigued, determined to travel into the nature of reality, and at least glimpse a vague picture of what it could be. [...]
[...] You set them into motion, but then they follow their own laws and realities. [...] I [recently] suggested a project to Ruburt’s class — one that will ultimately illuminate many of the points I am making in “Unknown” Reality. I suggested that Ruburt’s students create a “city”9 at another level of reality. [...]
And you knew it is what you are, and what you will be; and as the other developments in the sessions also rose out of what you are and what Ruburt is, so did this one. [...]
Now, remember what I told you in the book about the black holes and the concentration of energy. [...] They are fountains, therefore, of new energy; and their very intrusion into your world activates that reality in a different fashion, usually in a quickening, stirring, transforming fashion—an activation, say, rather than a slowing down.
[...] There is not a word in your vocabulary to explain what I am trying to get at. [...] It was also a way that Ruburt used to translate the idea of the particular kind of creativity involved; the idea, indeed, of birth, for this is the birth or a system, of a new kind of reality, that this group is involved with. [...]
[...] There are indeed initiates, but all of you passed that stage in another layer of reality, in your terms, some time ago. [...] You work through many layers of reality at the same time. [...] You are affecting each others’ realities, but you have always done this to some degree.
Some Seth sessions tell us precisely how we form dreams, what chemicals are built up during waking consciousness and then released in dream-making, and others deal with the electromagnetic composition of dream reality. But all through is the insistence upon what we would call, I suppose, the “objectivity” of dream life.
“Now in certain levels of dream reality, forms such as this can be perceived. Within dream reality you can come into contact with many other kinds of phenomena with which usually you do not have to deal. [...] I would like to give you some idea, you see, of what to expect.
“He would wonder what collective madness permitted man to select from a virtual infinity of chaos a mere handful of similarities and make of it a universe. So do you, viewing the seeming chaos of dream reality, wonder how I can say that it contains cohesiveness, actuality, and comparative permanence.”
Through our dreams we change physical reality, and our physical daily experience alters our dream experience. [...] Our consciousness is simply directed in a different kind of reality when we dream, a reality as vivid as waking life. We may forget our dreams, but they are always a part of us, even though we may not be aware of their entire reality.
You cannot separate your beliefs about reality from the reality that you experience. That is, your beliefs about reality form it. Your ideas about what is possible and what is not possible are reflected in all areas.
[...] From the transcript of the class tape [received a week later]: “Now, reality has no beginning and no end. Hopefully — hopefully — hopefully, in your terms of time, you may get a glimpse of what I mean. [...] You create your own reality. [...]
(Slowly:) Only because these units have their source outside of space and time is the present corporal reality a triumph of probabilities. [...] Your present image, for example, seems to be the only one possible for you, permanently yours for your lifetime at least; and what happens to it appears almost inevitable. If you become ill, say, you may wonder why, and yet once illness has happened it becomes part of the body’s reality, and seems almost like an inevitable part of its experience.
You can understand what is meant by saying that your consciousness fluctuates — for each individual is aware of various intensities and concentrations. [...] This reality of fluctuation in no way bothers your own feeling of consistency, however. [...]
When you reach adulthood, following our analogy, then you will learn to be successful in manipulating dream reality as you now manipulate objective reality. [...] The dream reality is as real and actual as physical reality, but it can be changed you see by you, as physical reality can be changed.
[...] This is what happens in such a case. Those who agree on such a meeting within dream reality must have certain abilities developed. [...]
[...] This is the self as it appears within what you may call for now fifth-dimensional reality, but it does not exist at all in terms of matter. [...]
You begin to manipulate the dream state, or rather you begin to manipulate yourself within dream reality, which is something different. [...] In ordinary dreaming, without the awareness of usual waking consciousness, perception of dream reality is limited and instinctive. [...] You are like a child in objective reality. [...]
When the personality compared physical reality with children’s blocks, he made a remark about individuals returning in our future to peer into physical reality like giants squinting down to watch children play with blocks upon the floor. (As the voice spoke, my eyes were closed, of course, and I don’t remember what the voice said, but have checked Rob’s verbatim notes of the session.) In here someplace, suddenly I saw a giant’s face peer into our living room, its face filling up the entire window.
[...] If I ever had any doubts … what-ever’s going on, it’s not coming from me, not from my own personality.” [...] The feeling I had was that I really was in touch with some all encompassing reality.”
[...] “Ruburt’s range is an excellent one, and the plane of reality in which I have my existence is far beyond those to which persons in the physical system usually have access. [...] This [kind of material] has its purposes, and it does do some good, explaining reality in terms that people can understand, for the props and fantasies are familiar ones. [...] He continued, suggesting that I stay away from books that “deal exclusively with conventional religious subjects, interpreting reality in those limited terms.”
[...] As words would give small hint of the reality of color or sound to someone who did not experience these, so words can only give insight into the nature of reality. [...]
[...] I am telling you that your own thoughts and mental actions appear to the inhabitants of other systems like the stars and planets within your own; and those inhabitants do not perceive what lies within and behind the stars in their own heavens. Though they probe their own universe, they will not wander into your reality. [...]
[...] (Seth smiled.) The possibilities that have come to reality within this universal system have each given birth to other systems and realities, as one tree bears a thousand seeds. You, yourselves, through your own mental actions, create realities of which you are unaware, and you give birth to more than physical children.
[...] There is interrelationship, intertwining realities, and connections that cannot be denied. I told you, for example, that dream reality consisted of more than you knew, and that the dream universe continued whether or not you perceived it. Within that context, those inhabitants dream—in turn—their own dreams, and form electromagnetic realities. [...]
Now: again, each thought forms its own electromagnetic reality and is composed of energy which can never be dissipated, but only transformed. The subjective reality of one man, left alone in the universe, would emit enough energy to seed another. [...]
Then also, I remember what Seth said about being reckless in the pursuit of the ideal. [...] So along with Seth’s work, we tried to share our reality with the reader, and to provide a platform in time for knowledge that must basically straddle our ideas of time and reality alike.
And again, at latest count Jane has written three books (including Psychic Politics) since Seth began “Unknown” Reality — and worked on several others — so what is the relationship between the human psyche and such “other” sources of creativity and knowledge?
[...] I believe that thick, sprawling works like “Unknown” Reality offer some important answers, but beyond that it’s up to the multidimensional, multitudinous, over four billion multinational individuals on this planet to follow their own intuitions and seek answers in their personal ways. Lots of those people will never hear of the Seth material — nor, as Seth himself has said, will they ever need to — but then, Jane and I know that some will, and so we proffer what we can.
[...] What kind of hidden interchanges between species take place at such times? If the question could he answered, would all of reality in its unending mystery lie revealed before us?
[...] You are using abilities in that work that you are not using as yet in your conscious lives, and I want you to become aware of what these abilities are. They can also help you deal much more effectively with physical reality and help you understand it far better. [...]
[...] Now you need not close your eyes but if you listen to your own inner voice, and if you allow yourself the freedom, and if you understand the nature of probabilities, then as I speak and as you listen you can indeed, to some extent, perceive the other reality, the specific reality of which I am speaking in which you also exist as a group. [...] I would like you to allow yourselves the freedom of feeling that reality. [...]
[...] I don’t know what, but I feel there is something there that should be worked out, so I gave myself the suggestion for a dream concerning this, and I got one which dealt with my older brother Tommy. In it I was telling him to sit down, and I was trying to talk to him, but I couldn’t, but finally I did and what I’m wondering, because I’ve had this three or four times in the dream state, trying to talk. [...]
(During break Margie explained what they were studying in the Cayce class and what they want to attain. [...]
