The energy point, from here on, constantly changes the form of the unit, but the procedure I have just mentioned must first occur. The unit may become circular, for example. Now these intensities of emotional energy, forming the units, end up by transforming all available space into what they are. Certain intensities and certain positions of polarity between and among the units and great groupings of the units compress energy into solid form (resulting in matter). The emotional energy within the units is obviously the motivating factor, and you can see, then, why emotional energy can indeed shatter a physical object. You may take your break.
The behavior of these units changes in the following manner. When a unit is in the act of combining with another, it aligns its components in a characteristic way. When it is separating itself from other units, it will align its components in a different way. The polarities change in each case, within the units. The unit will alter its polarities within itself, adapting the polarity-design of the unit to which it is being attracted; and it will change its polarity away from that design on breaking contact.
The units so charged with intensive emotional energy formed patterns for matter that retained their strength. Now these units, while appearing within your system, may also have a reality outside it, propelling the emotional energy units through the world of matter entirely. These units, as I told you, are indestructible. They can, however, lose or gain power, fall back into intensities beneath matter, or go through matter, appearing as matter as they do so and projecting through your system.
The shifting of polarity occurs in rhythm with changing emotional intensities, or emotional energies, if you prefer. The “initial” originating emotional energy that sets any given unit into motion, and forms it, then causes the unit to become a highly charged electromagnetic field with those characteristics of changing polarities just mentioned. The changing polarities are also caused by attraction and repulsion from other like units which may be attached or detached. There is a rhythm that underlies all of this changing polarity and changing intensities that occur constantly. But the rhythms have to do with the nature of emotional energy itself, and not with the laws of matter.
[...] The intensity of the original emotional energy controls the activity, the strength, the stability, and the relative size of the unit; the rate of its pulsation, and its power to attract and repel other units, and its ability to combine with other units. Now the behavior of these units changes in the following manner. (Pause.) When a unit is in the act of combining with another unit, it aligns its components in a characteristic way. When it is separating itself from other units it will align its components in a different way. The polarities change in each case within the unit itself.
(Pause.) The energy point, the EE point, from here on, constantly changes the form of the unit, but the procedure I have just mentioned must first occur. The unit may become circular, for example. Now these intensities of EE, forming the units, end up by transforming all available space into what they are. Certain intensities and certain positions of polarity between and among the units, and great groupings of the units, compress energy into solid form.
If this large unit were then attracted to another larger unit, circular, with the poles running east and west in your terms, then the first unit would change its own, and all of the units within it would do the same. [...]
Without an understanding of these rhythms the activity of the units would appear haphazard, chaotic, and there would seem to be nothing to hold the units together. [...] (Gestures.) The “nucleus,” in quotes—now using a cell analogy—if these units were cells, which they are not, then it would be as if the nucleus were constantly changing position, flying off in all directions, dragging the rest of the cell along with it. [...]
These units—let us discuss them as they are related to a rock. [...] These units are sent out indiscriminately by the various atoms and molecules, but portions of them are also directed by the overall rock consciousness. The units are sent out by the rock, informing the rock as to the nature of its changing environment: the angle of the sun and temperature changes, for example, as night falls; and even in the case of a rock, they change as the rock’s loosely called emotional tone changes. As the units change, they alter the air about them which is the result of their own activity.
These emanations rise as naturally as breath, and there are other comparisons that can be made, in that there is a coming in and a going out, and transformation within the unit, as what is taken into the lungs, for example, is not the same thing that leaves on the exhale stroke. You could compare these units, simply for an analogy, to the invisible breath of consciousness. [...] Breath is, of course, also a pulsation, and these units operate in a pulsating manner. [...]
I will try to clear this later, but the air is the result of these units’ existence, formed by the interrelationship of the units in their positions and relative distance one from the other, and by what you could call the relative velocity of their motion. Air is what happens when these units are in motion, and it is in terms of weather that their electromagnetic effects appear most clearly to scientists, for example.
[...] The units meet with, and to some extent merge with, other units sent out, say, from foliage and all other objects. [...]
[...] There are units of consciousness,3 then, as there are units of matter. I do not want you to think of these units as particles. There is a basic unit of consciousness that, expressed, will not be broken down, as once it was thought that an atom was the smallest unit and could not be broken down. The basic unit of consciousness obviously is not physical. [...] Despite whatever organizations it becomes part of, or how it mixes with other such basic units, its own identity is not annihilated.
3. A note added later: Of course, as soon as Seth mentioned units of consciousness in “Unknown” Reality I thought of the electromagnetic energy units (EE units, as he called them) that he’d discussed in 1969 and 1971. [...] In the latter material he used several evocative analogies to describe his EE units: “… basically emanations rising from consciousness … the invisible breath of consciousness … The emanations are actually emotional tones … The units are just beneath the range of physical matter.”
So I prefer, here at least, to speak of these units of consciousness instead. [...] These units can indeed appear in several places at once, and without going through space, in your terms. Literally now, these basic units of consciousness can be in all places at once. [...]
[...] Since these units of consciousness exist at once, they are aware of all the organized self-structures of which they are a part. [...] These units grow out of themselves. Since I have told you that in your terms your past, present, and future exist at once, these units are constantly emerging out of your now-point from both the future and the past.
[...] This is a rather important point, for it concerns all units or systems. The inner alignment and electromagnetic structure of such particles is the main issue that allows them to be, or to operate within, two different units or systems. And while these particles act as resistant boundary forces, they are also uniting forces, forming so to speak the connective tissue that both separates and unites.
There is an interrelationship between all systems or units that are. [...] The interrelationship between units or systems is, therefore, between not only those that now appear actual to you, but between all systems or units that you assume to be future or past, with those that appear to be present.
I would like this evening to speak more concerning the interrelationship of various units; for when I speak of the interrelationship of universes, remember that these universes are also units, or if you prefer, systems.
They are merely of a more complex gestalt, yet they share in the properties inherent in all units or systems, regardless of apparent size or complexity. Once again, there are no closed systems or units, although some may appear closed to those inhabitants within.
[...] The units charge the air through which they pass, and draw to them other units. The units are not stationary in the way that, say, a cell is stationary within the body. [...] These units have no “home.” [...]
Now: there are electromagnetic structures, so to speak, that are presently beyond your (scientific) instruments, units that are the basic carriers of perception. [...] Several units may combine, for example; many units may combine. [...]
The desire appears on this other level in the form of these electromagnetic units, which then cause a light sensitivity. These units are freewheeling. [...]
[...] As a magnet, you see, will attract with its filaments, so these units attract their own kind and form patterns which then appear to you as perception.
If you remember that beneath all, each unit of consciousness is aware of the position of each other unit, and that these units form all physical matter, then perhaps you can intuitively follow what I mean, for whatever knowledge man attains, whatever experience any one person accumulates, whatever arts or sciences you produce, all such information is instantly perceived at other levels of activity by each of the other units of consciousness that compose physical reality—whether those units form the shape of a rock, a raindrop, an apple, a cat, a frog or a shoe. Manufactured products are also composed of atoms and molecules that ride upon units of consciousness transformed into EE units, and hence into physical elements.
These EE units also operate as fields, as waves, or as particles, as the units of consciousness do—but in your terms they are closer to physical orientation. [...] There are literally numberless steps taken before EE units combine in their own fashion to form the most microscopic physical particles, and even here the greatest, gentlest sorting-out process takes place as these units disentangle themselves at certain operational levels (underlined) from their own greater fields of “information,” to specialize in the various elements that will allow for the production of atoms and molecules impeccably suited to your kind of world.
(Long pause at 9:23.) In the deepest terms, again, your physical world is beginning at each point at which these units of consciousness assert themselves to form physical reality. [...] Each unit of consciousness (or CU) intensifies, magnifies its own intent to be—and, you might say, works up from within itself an explosive spark of primal desire that “explodes” into a process that causes physical materialization. It turns into what I have called [an] EE unit,1 in which case it is embarked upon its own kind of physical experience.
(9:48.) Units of consciousness (CU’s), transforming themselves into EE units, formed the environment and all of its inhabitants in the same process, in what you might call a circular manner rather than a serial one. [...]
(Pause at 9:04, one of many.) Each “particleized” unit, however, rides the continual thrust set up by fields of consciousness, in which wave and particle both belong. Each particleized unit of consciousness contains within it inherently the knowledge of all other such particles—for at other levels, again, the units are operating as waves. Basically the units move faster than light,2 slowing down, in your terms, to form matter. (Pause.) These units can be considered, again, as entities or as forces, and they can operate as either. [...] Scientifically, again, the units can be thought of as building blocks of matter. Ethically, the CU’s represent the spectacular foundations of the world in value fulfillment, for each unit of consciousness is related to each other, a part of the other, each participating in the entire gestalt of mortal experience. [...]
Now: I call the building blocks of matter CU’s—units of consciousness. [...] Units of consciousness also form other kinds of matter that you do not perceive.1
[...] However (pause), in its purest form a unit of consciousness can be in all places at the same time (forcefully). It becomes beside the point, then, to say that when it operates as a wave a unit of consciousness is precognitive, or clairvoyant, since it has the capacity to be in all places and all times simultaneously.
I want you to try and imagine a situation in which (long pause) there exists a psychological force that includes within its capabilities the ability to act simultaneously on the most microscopic and the most macroscopic levels; that can form within itself (long pause, eyes closed) a million separate inviolate unique identities, and that can still operate as a part of those identities, and as a larger unit that is their source—in which case it is a wave from which the particles emerge. That description fits our units of consciousness.
It is as if each number represents not only the number itself, not only a unit to be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided, but also as if each number had infinite varieties of intensities that you do not perceive. I am not talking of smaller units within that number, but of the nature of the unit itself.
In the same manner any of the unit intensities behind each number may change position while still remaining itself, and retaining its individuality as a unit. [...] You are in a world where you see one particular intensity unit—belonging say to number 1.
You do not perceive the other intensity units to which it belongs. You perceive—in other terms—the 1, say, as a flat line on a flat surface, and are unable to imagine the existence (pause), the intensity, within that simple unit number.
The unit of the numbers alone however signifies their existence. [...]
[...] In Session 890 see his material on both EE units and CU’s. While reading tonight’s material, the reader might keep these brief passages from that session in mind: “Each unit of consciousness (or CU) intensifies, magnifies its own intents to be—and, you might say, works up from within itself an explosive spark of primal desire that “explodes” into a process that causes physical materialization. It turns into what I have called [an] EE unit, in which case it is embarked upon its own kind of physical experience.” And: “Units of consciousness (CU’s), transforming themselves into EE units, formed the environment and all of its inhabitants in the same process, in what you might call a circular manner rather than a serial one.”
2. Here are the sessions and notes for Volume 1 of Dreams, in which Seth and I discussed or referred to his EE (or electromagnetic energy) units, and his CU’s (or units of consciousness).
Last night, as I began typing Monday’s 915th session, I asked Jane why Seth hadn’t just called his “invisible particles” CU’s, or units of consciousness, as he’d done earlier in Dreams,2 and as he’d always done in his other books. [...]
[...] When Joseph (as Seth calls me) read the last session, he wondered whether or not the invisible particles I referred to were the same as the units of consciousness I have spoken of before.
I will try to clear this later, but the air is the result of these units’ existence, formed by the interrelationship of the units in their positions and relative distance one from the other, and in what you could call the relative velocity of their motion. You could compare these units, simply for an analogy, to the invisible breath of consciousness. [...] Breath is of course also a pulsation, and these units operate in a pulsating manner. [...]
[...] The units meet with, and to some extent merge with, other units sent out, say, from foliage and all other objects. [...]
(9:27.) EE units are, then, emanations from consciousness. The intensity of the thought or emotion determines the characteristics of the units themselves. [...]
(9:33.) You are not utterly unaware of the existence of some of these units, though you do not experience them as mass. You interpret some of them as events, dream events, so-called hallucinations; and sometimes certain ranges of these units are interpreted by you as movement-through-time.
[...] The invisible EE units form your physical matter and represent the essential and basic units from which any physical particle appears.
[...] M.H. asked, then: “Are these faster-than-light particles the same as, or like, the electromagnetic energy or EE units Seth discusses in the Appendix of The Seth Material?”)
[...] Those electromagnetic units of high enough intensity automatically activate the subordinate coordinate points of which I have spoken. They are, therefore, accelerated and propelled into matter far more quickly, in your terms, than units of lesser intensity. Molecules would appear as large as planets to these units. Atoms and molecules and planets and these electromagnetic energy units are simply different manifestations of the same principles that bring the units themselves into being. [...]
These units are natural emanations from all kinds of consciousness. [...] They very seldom exist in isolation, but unite under certain laws. [...]
Now: This is highly simplified, but the subjective experience of any consciousness is automatically expressed as electromagnetic energy units. [...]
Each thought or emotion therefore exists as an electromagnetic energy unit or as a combination of these under certain conditions, and often with the help of coordinate points, they emerge into the building blocks of physical matter. [...]
(Pause.) As these units approach physical structure, however, they do slow down in your terms. Electrons, for example, are slow dullards in comparison with EE units.1 It goes without saying that the units of consciousness are “mental,” or if you prefer, disembodied, though from their inner organization all physical forms emerge. Certain intensities are built up of unit organization even before the smallest physical particle, or even invisible “physical” particle, exists. These units form what you think of as the mind, around which the structure of the brain is formulated. The units permeate the brain.
Now: These units of consciousness (CU’s) move faster than the speed of light, then — but that statement itself is meaningless in a way, since the units exist outside as well as inside the framework in which light itself has meaning.
The great communication system within the body itself is dependent, then, upon the constant inner flux and flow of these units. On one level the body’s very survival is largely determined by the units’ propensities for selectivity and significance. [...]
(Slowly:) Only because these units have their source outside of space and time is the present corporal reality a triumph of probabilities. [...]
The experience of any given unit, constantly changing, affects all other units … Give us time … It is difficult to explain because your concepts of selfhood are so limited … These units contain within themselves, in your terms, all “latent” identities, but not in a predetermined fashion. [...]
Within these units there is, again, a propensity for growth and organization. [...] Briefly, certain units would settle upon various kinds of organization, find these significant, then build upon them and attract others of the same nature. [...] The units can and do intermix, yet because of the propensity for selectivity and significance, whole groups of them will “repel” other whole groups, thus providing a protective inner system of interaction.
[...] Long pause during a strong delivery.) That godhood is formed from the eternal yet ever-new emergence and growth of those basic units of consciousness. The reality of the godhood straddles the reality of each unit, and the mass reality of all units.
[...] Now: We will call the basic units of consciousness “CU” — the letter “C,” the letter “U” — consciousness units. From them EE units are formed, and the first roots sent out into the world of physical matter. [...]
[...] The form was there, but it was not manifest (intently). I do not particularly like the analogy, but it is useful: Instead of small particles (long pause), you had small units of consciousness gradually building themselves into large ones—but a smaller unit of consciousness, you see, is not “less than” a larger unit, for each unit of consciousness contains within itself the innate (underlined) heritage of All That Is.
[...] (Pause.) The cell’s stability, and its reliability in the bodily environment, is dependent upon its innate properties of instant communication and instant decision, for each cell is in communication with all others and is united with all others through fields of consciousness,3 in which each entity of whatever degree plays a part.
[...] (Pause.) Units that are the basic carriers of perception. [...] Several units may combine for example, many units may combine. [...]
[...] The units charge the air through which they pass, and draw to them other units. The units are not stationary in the way that a cell say, is stationary within the body, generally speaking.
These units have no home. [...] As a magnet, you see, will attract with its filaments, so these units attract their own kind, and form patterns, which then appear to you as perception. [...]
The desire appears on this other level in the form of these electromagnetic units, which then cause a light sensitivity. These units are free-wheeling. [...]
[...] I am going to tie in this material with our discussion on our electromagnetic energy units, as there is a close connection.
[...] It is the inner self, here termed the inner ego, that organizes, initiates, projects, and controls the EE (electromagnetic energy) units of which we have been speaking, transforming energy into objects, into matter.
[...] It constantly translates the components of its gestalt into reality—either physical reality through the EE units I have mentioned, or into other realities equally as valid.
Now: the EE (electromagnetic energy) units are the forms that basic experience takes when directed by this inner self. [...]
[...] In that multidimensional array, consciousness mentally learned to form itself into EE units, atoms and molecules, electrons and chromosomes. [...] Those units of consciousness are indestructible and vitalized, regardless of the forms they take, and while men’s forms were dream images, consciousness spun forms into physical material.
[...] In that regard the earth’s entire environment was built mentally, atom by conscious atom—each atom, again, being initially formed by units of consciousness. I said that these units could operate as entities, and as forces, so we are not speaking of a mental mechanics but of entities in the true meaning of the word: entities of unimaginable creative and psychic properties, purposeful fragments propelled from the infinite mind as that mind was filled with the inspiration that gave light to the world. [...]
Up until then, the main communications had followed the characteristic patterns of units of consciousness (long pause), each unit knowing its relationship to all others upon the planet. [...]
Remember that each unit of consciousness is a fragment of All That Is, a divine portion. [...]
[...] This does not apply only to the reality of human personality, but to that basic inner and smallest unit, individual prime consciousness that is at the core of any psychic gestalt. That is, the smallest unit of individual consciousness which finds physical fulfillment in the formation of matter.
It is self-propelled, self-perpetuating as a psychological energy unit. [...] The energy that composes the smallest or any physical unit, passes through the physical field where the outer senses can no longer perceive it. [...]
Psychological energy units smaller or weaker than the minimum unit required for physical construction, simply pass through the physical field unperceived and unconstructed. [...]
[...] The gallery represents a unit of community affiliation in which he can exert some power, and yet be within a community unit.
