(When Jane did go into trance her Seth voice was again deeper than her usual voice, but not at all loud so as to attract attention. [...]

He has realized for a while that it would be possible for me now to speak while we—that is, he and I so cooperated that his eyes were open, and yet his trance was deep, much deeper than in our early sessions, where the exterior circumstances might appear the same.

(Billy now meowed, and then jumped up on Jane’s chair as she spoke in trance—something he seldom does. [...]

(“You know, he was quite different in trance,” Jane said. [...]

[...] He just looked at me like I was an entirely different person—either that, or I perceived him differently in trance.”

(At supper time this evening I told Jane that tonight she was going to  start dictating a new book for Seth, the “energy personality essence” for whom she speaks while she’s in trance — and that she was going to do the notes also. [...] My idea here was that as soon as I had a session typed from my original “shorthand,” Jane could add whatever she wanted to about her trance states, feelings, or ideas, while the session circumstances were still fresh in her mind.

[...] “Now I’ve forgotten even the title,” Jane said as soon as she came out of an excellent trance, or dissociated state.

(Jane began speaking in trance at a very slow and deliberate pace, I had the distinct feeling that she wanted to get the information through in as undistorted a manner as possible, as Seth began to discuss the material John had given during his call.)

[...] It was brought on because our cat Willy, decided to jump up in Jane’s lap as she spoke in trance. [...]

(During break Jane told me that she had felt a sideways thrust of energy going out of her; she thought this probably an attempt at projection to Louisiana while in trance. [...]

We could have presented Dreams as is, or at least have avoided mentioning certain less-than-advantageous circumstances surrounding its production by Jane and by Seth, the “energy personality essence” she speaks for while in a trance or dissociated state. [...] Since we’ve always wanted to make sure that our “psychic work” is given within the context of our daily living, I’ve undertaken to present in these essays intensely personal material relevant to the creation of Dreams. (The mechanics of Jane’s still-fascinating trance phenomenon have been described in some detail in the six previous Seth books she’s produced—with my help—and they’ll also be referred to, if briefly, in Dreams.)
