[...] The unconscious, the color black, and death all have strongly negative connotations in which the inner self is feared; the dream state is mistrusted and often suggests thoughts of both death and/or evil. (Jane had thought she might not be able to have a session tonight, but she began to feel Seth around soon after I began writing these notes, at about 7:30. [...]

[...] In all of this, however, thoughts of self-accusation simply must be avoided as much as possible, for to a good degree in one way or another such activities and misunderstandings are behind any illness, and Ruburt is hardly to single himself out in any one area as being more stupid than anyone else. You felt hardly strong enough to handle your own fears, and could not bear the thought that she might need your help also. [...]

Then, you thought, you could be quite free to use your mind and your other abilities, and no one could say a thing because you could always say, “Obviously, I’ve proven my womanhood, and I’m free to use my mind.”

3. I found Seth’s statement about contending with the thought patterns of others a particularly apropos one, since Jane and I have lived in apartment houses for many years (and are only now preparing to give up that kind of life.) A question: How does that steady psychic exchange affect all of those who work and/or live in high-rise complexes, for instance?

When information “falls” into your conscious mind from those vaster areas, then it also is changed as it travels through various levels of psychological atmosphere, until it finally lands or explodes in a series of images or thoughts. [...]

[...] Your own thoughts, dreams, intents, emotions, beliefs — these are the natural features of your mind, so that information, impinging upon your mental world, also follows those contours.

[...] People who are not writers or artists, or poets or musicians, often suddenly find themselves almost transformed for a brief period of time — suddenly struck by a poem or a song or a snatch of music, or by a sketch — that seems to come from nowhere, that seems to emerge outside of the context of usual thought patterns, and that brings with it an understanding, a joy, a compassion, or an artistic bent that seemingly did not exist a moment earlier. [...] Thoughts often seem to swim in and out of your system of consciousness, and you barely notice. [...]

Jane and I thought it most interesting that within 29 days [in October] various events—the arrival of Volume 2 of Conversations, Jane’s coming through with her “attend” material and poetry, the visit of her former students, and even her contentions with Magical Approach—had helped her rejuvenate her sense of physical ease and well-being on at least three separate occasions. [...]

[...] You do not know how many times you lift your arms, speak a sentence, think a thought. [...]

[...] I told her I thought he’d triggered his extra material himself through talking about our species’ couriers. [...]

[...] You cannot see your thoughts, so you do not realize that they have shape and form, even as, say, clouds do. (For the most part Seth’s ideas are far away from thoughts of replicating genes or the second law of thermodynamics. [...]

(After supper Jane asked me if I agreed with her decision not to call Dr. Kardon, when I hadn’t thought of doing so to begin with—especially in light of the high bill we’d received from St. Joseph’s to begin with, for the last finger episode. [...]

[...] I am not saying that others are not involved, but that discordant thoughts bring about discordant reactions in others, to which they will react according to their own beliefs. [...]
