Few people are much concerned personally with the esoteric situations mentioned in our last chapter. Many people are involved, however, with various religious ideas and philosophies, whose effects are quite unfortunate in personal experience. [...]

It is unfortunately often — but not always — true that individuals who carry strong religious feeling are often bothered more than usual by poor health and personal dilemmas. [...]

With some variations, the same kind of “sudden conversion” can occur when a person who has berated religious concepts and beliefs suddenly does a double-take of a different kind, ending up as a twice-born Christian.

Thinking that the words referred to the physical condition of the person whose death was foreseen, Ruburt changed them as mentioned in an effort to better the situation. You will see here that indirectly but clearly we have given you the identity of the person whose death is foreseen, particularly when I add to the positive statement, though it may appear negative, that your mother, Joseph, is in no way involved.

(Thus, Seth seems to be saying in the above paragraph that Jane received a communication through a personality that has been dead for two years. [...]

He fears that he will be loved when he gives support, but not loved when he must rely, or ask it, from another person. [...]

[...] And the import of the dream was clear to him merely in the perception of that simple data, the black envelope, with the return name in the left hand corner, and though he does not recall it, his name on the envelope as the person to whom the communication was sent.

The separate incarnated personalities however are still separate identities. [...] The personality structures of which I am speaking are far more advanced than this example. [...]

In some personalities they will lead to what you call a mystic experience. They will carry the personality into new realms of perception. [...]

Little is said about the personality’s innate desire for drama, the kind of inner spiritual drama in which an individual can feel part of a purpose that is his own, and yet is greater than himself.

In your society, it is generally thought that a person must have a decent livelihood, a family or other close relationships, good health, and a sense of belonging if the individual is to be at all productive, happy, or content.

(To me, both photographs had a certain mysterious quality that I’d often found intriguing — an aura due partly to their being old, personal, and so irreplaceable, I suppose. [...] Maybe I just wanted Seth to comment on probabilities in a more personal way. [...]

[...] The illness has been accepted by the personality in place of deeply rooted problems that the personality would not face. As any symptoms subside the problems will be felt by the personality.

This paced release allows the personality to face these problems slowly so that it is not overly frightened. Yet even then the personality will resent any healing of the body to a marked degree, and will show resentment.

[...] Otherwise the personality would become swamped by the problems that it has been trying so desperately to avoid. [...]

[...] You have perceived and to some extent had the sensations of the personality that was Dolly Madison. [...] You have a close affinity with that personality and there were some strong connections between you and that personality, and it is for this reason that you were able to pick up the sensations and emotions so strongly. ([Phil:] “Seth, then is Igor an actual separate personality or am I just expressing what I pick up and relating that energy?”)

[...] But these are all evidences in your own experience of the multidimensionality of your own personality. [...]

Now, this identity of which I speak, from which you receive your energy and your information, this identity of yours personally, is indeed infinite. [...]

In terms again of the image set up earlier, there are various reference points where overlapping areas of the various circles penetrate each other; and as has been mentioned earlier, Ruburt’s personality presently is in such a psychological location.

[...] My own personality, as simply as possible, also represents such a reference point or entry point between you and Ruburt and myself. [...]

The other personality for which Ruburt has spoken is a part of this other triangle. [...]

For most people this censoring process is valuable, since it prevents the personality from being snowed under by data it is not equipped to handle. [...]

[...] It is only when the personality passes out of the dream experience, or the dream universe, that the dream experience in retrospect may appear unreal. [...]

If a portion of you feels it does not get treats, you see, it imagines that the whole personality does not consider it worthy of any consideration. [...]

There are also occasions when the body consciousness itself rises up in spite of a person’s fears and doubts, and throws aside a condition of illness in a kind of sudden victory. Even then, however, the person involved has already begun to question such negative beliefs. [...]

[...] “If it never happened, it would mean the body consciousness was always subservient to other more dominant portions of the personality, and I don’t think that’s true either. [...]

Both of you realize this intuitively. (Long pause.) As personalities however you have worked out your relationship. [...] Often problems with one personality are worked out by relationships with another, different personality.

You felt that you wanted to give a life for the one you accidentally destroyed, but it need not have been the life of the same personality, had you chosen otherwise. [...]

The interrelationships of your personalities in past lives is quite legitimate. [...]

[...] Portions of it do deal with camouflage patterns, with the personal past of the present personality, with racial camouflage memories; and the greater portion belongs to the inner world, and as data comes into it from the inner world, so can it reach far into the inner world itself.

[...] I have absolutely nothing to do with that portion of the subconscious which is involved with your personal memories or present personality makeup.

Camouflage patterns are bad enough to deal with from my end, but personal camouflage patterns thrown up by the brain are worse. As far as your neurotics are concerned—for some reason speaking of the affairs usually called seances reminded me of neurotics—as far as neurotics are concerned, this neuroticism is part and parcel of an inadequacy on the part of the physical body and the personality both, that involves an inability to handle camouflage patterns.

[...] These senses are not magical, they certainly are not religious in any sense of the word, and I am not some degenerating secondary personality of Ruburt’s. Nor will I be compared with some long-bearded, beady-eyed spirit sitting on cloud nine.

[...] There is nothing to prevent a personality from investing a portion of his own energy into an animal form. [...] It does mean that personalities can send a portion of their energy into various kinds of form.
