[...] These men, however, follow their outer senses slavishly. They ignore and fear the inner reality, and the inner ideas and dreams which have actually formed the reality of which they are so proud.

[...] Myths and symbols are often closer to reality than what are called hard facts, since so-called hard facts are often distortions of the outer senses. These distortions however are necessary frameworks for existence of the inner self in the material universe.

[...] And three, communication between the conscious and subconscious, or the inner and so-called outer parts of the whole self, must be excellent.

Conscious desire to achieve a given end may represent only a superficial, culturally-adopted wish, that may even be directly opposed to the emotionally-charged desires and expectations of the inner self.

Now: the inner self is the primary personal creator and perceiver, the seat of identity, a consciousness then with many faces. Each portion of the inner self creates its own reality, and perceives the structure of matter to which it is attuned.

The subject of matter then becomes one of correlating inner data with outward experience and appearance. The inner core of the self has no difficulty in uniting and correlating the outward experience of its many personalities, but the subject of reincarnation cannot be understood without a knowledge of the nature of matter.

Ruburt sensed this quite clearly, and as usual feels twinges, wondering what I am going to write about, and what kind of a book it will be. [...]

[...] Think of the subconscious now merely as an academic psychologist might; as that inner portion of the self who is concerned with physical survival. [...]

[...] I had no sense of physical pressure upon the bed, but one of suspension. In recent experiments I have been getting a strong sense of vibration and movement in the beginnings of the sessions.”

As within your field inner energy is translated into physical matter through means which I have earlier described, within the electrical system inner energy is translated into the characteristics peculiar to that system.

To continue along the lines of the various fields of actuality in which the human body exists, these fields or systems, being open, are also fields with particular identity, within which certain inner and particular laws operate. [...]

In this field, electrical force is the main method by which inner energy expresses itself. [...]

[...] I challenge you to use all of your abilities and all of your senses. I challenge you to open your inner eyes, to use your minds, to use your inner intuitions. [...]

You are meant to look at your physical condition—to compare it against what you want and what is good—and change the inner self accordingly. Any evils in the world are symptoms of you own inner disorders and are meant to lead you to cure them. [...]

[...] I can see your potentials and your abilities and your promise—and you could see your own potentials and promise if you would open your inner eyes, if you would look within yourselves. [...]

[...] It was not necessary for Ruburt to see the form again—merely to sense the reality of that powerful energy, and realize that it worked on his behalf. In a fashion the form also represented the innocent and powerful inner self, or spontaneous self, or naturally magical self—the terms are synonymous.

[...] The knower is of course always present, but the part of your culture that is built upon the notion that no such inner knowledge exists, and those foolish ideas of rational thought as the only provider of answers, therefore often limit your own use of inner abilities.

[...] He sensed that the form was composed of energy that was definitely predisposed to come to his assistance, or to do his bidding.

[...] The senses are indeed often used by the inner self as a constant method of acquainting it with circumstances pertinent to the survival and interests of the physical body, but the inner self is not entirely dependent on them for its entire data by any means. The mind can bypass the senses, and receive its data in a more direct manner, translating what it perceives as automatically as it translates sensual data.

It makes no difference basically, underlined, whether or not the sense data is real in your terms or not. [...] In the case of the odor smelled in a dream, the mind experiences, and then the experience is interpreted precisely as if the senses had been used to perceive it. [...]

[...] Sooner or later we are going to have to discuss the ways in which what would appear to be sensual perception is made available to an individual when the physical body, with its senses, perceives an event at which it cannot be said to be present.

[...] The important fact is, in both cases, that information is received by an individual that does not come through recognized sense systems.

[...] It has been said that only men have a moral sense, that only men have free will—if indeed free will is possible at all. Now besides this physical genetic structure, there is an inner bank of psychic information that in your terms would contain the “past” history—the reincarnational history—of the individual. [...]

[...] That inner reincarnational psychic structure is also responsible for triggering certain genetic messages while ignoring others, or for triggering certain combinations of genetic messages. [...]

[...] The Crucifixion and attendant drama made sense within your reality at the time. It arose into the world of physical actuality out of the inner reality from which your deepest intuitions and insights also spring.

[...] While your religions are built around an enduring kernel of truth, the symbolism used was craftily selected by the inner self in line with its knowledge of those root assumptions you hold as valid in the physical universe. (Pause at 9:26.) The inner reality of the message was told in terms that man at the time could understand, in line with his root assumptions. [...]

When you, a dream tourist, wander about the inner landscape with your mental camera, however, it may take a while before you are able to tell the difference between dream events and their shadows or hallucinations. So you may take pictures of the shadows instead of the trees, and end up with a fine composition indeed — but one that would give you somewhat of a distorted version of inner reality. [...]

Stormy dream landscapes are on the one hand hallucinations, cast upon the inner world by your thoughts or feelings. On the other hand, they are valid representations of your inner climate at the time of any given dream. [...]

[...] Unless you realize this, some of your “dream albums” will make no sense to you.

[...] Anyone fully accustomed to inner reality would have no difficulty in telling the dream oak tree from its frisky shadow, however (humorously), any more than awaking photographer would have trouble distinguishing the physical oak tree from its counterpart upon the grass.

[...] Nevertheless the end result of each gradation brings us to the conclusion that the self, while being individual because of its inner counterpart or inner self, is unlimited. [...]

In the past, for example, the ego accepted only knowledge that came through the senses through the physical surroundings. Now it is open to inner data to a large degree. [...]

The personality is more integrated, yet through its acceptance of inner data, the ego, to use the term lightly, has expanded. [...]

[...] The body senses your fear, looks for the source in the immediate environment of the moment so that it can suitably react to protect you—but it senses no immediate difficulty. [...]

[...] With the writing I sought to make sense of everything at least intellectually, but for the moment at least, I thought, this left untouched what seemed to be the more powerful emotional tangle of beliefs. [...]

Now: The body consciousness reacts to exterior stimuli, of course, and to inner stimuli as well. [...]

[...] On the other hand, when you have them, make a point to recognize that they are the result of cultural beliefs, beliefs that often run counter to the body’s natural knowledge of optimism (pause) and saving inner balance. [...]

Now, changing the coordinates does involve a shifting of inner focus and an extension of the inner senses. [...]

Ruburt is intrigued by the extension of his inner senses at this point. [...]

He is forced in one way to reach further into inner reality, for I do not come as immediately to you as Seth as you knew him did. [...]

The sense of rather strained neutrality Ruburt feels now before sessions is simply caused by the strangeness of changing coordinates from the ones with which he has been accustomed.

He is having this evening’s session at least partially out of his sense of responsibility—because he thinks he should, and because he thinks you think he should. [...]

[...] The exterior interest, the physical manipulations, also stand for, and reflect, inner manipulations with psychic growth, and serve as symbols of a united psychological approach. [...]

[...] (Pause.) This is because of the projection of the entire idea of body mechanisms, per se, as opposed to inner spontaneous bodily workings. [...]

(Long pause at 9:56.) The entire dynamics of civilization to a large extent is related directly to man’s individual and mass psychic experience, and he ever receives fresh information from those inner sources. [...]

[...] Any inner journeys should allow you to find greater significance, beauty, and meaning in life as you know it now; but full enjoyment and development also means that you use all of your abilities, that you explore inner dimensions with as much wonder and enthusiasm. [...]

(9:15.) Now, as you have memory of your waking life and as you retain a large body of such memory for daily physical encounters, and as this fount of memory provides you with a sense of daily continuity, so also does your dreaming self have an equally large body of memory. [...]

I am in somewhat the same position when I try to explain to you the nature of this inner self, for while you can become aware of it in dreams, you cannot truly appreciate its maturity or abilities; yet they are yours in the same way that the man’s abilities belonged to the child. [...]

Generally speaking, if you are fairly content about physical reality, you are in a better position to study these inner environments.

(Shortly before the session I showed Jane copies I had made of material Seth gave very early in 1964—just after the sessions began; the nine Inner Senses, taking up nine typed pages, and the eleven Basic Laws of the Inner Universe, taking up seven typed pages.

(Pause.) In terms of value fulfillment you see, Ruburt is trying to assimilate information that has already been gathered, the last several days being far more valuable in terms of inner growth. [...]

The inner psychological realization is the important event here, rather than, for example, the letter (from Prentice-Hall) itself. [...]

[...] Ruburt sensed this quite well in the past, and feared to open those channels until he felt himself suitably ready and prepared. [...]

[...] Jane said the puzzling thing about this little dream was that in spite of its unpleasant content she felt no sense of alarm or danger or worry, that indeed she spoke to the two men quite cheerfully. [...]

[...] These are in some respects a different sort of camouflage, a self-formed, artificial and only partial enclosure, a beneficial psychic device within which the inner self momentarily and temporarily gathers and holds and collects as much psychic energy about it as it is capable of receiving, utilizing, and also withstanding. [...]

The side which is open allows free flow of energy from the inner self, but momentarily the outlet for this energy is blocked up. [...]

[...] Jane was fairly well dissociated, and had no sense of being bothered by outside stimuli. [...]

(Pause.) They attract you because of their instinctive knowledge, and they represent the inner freedom that man is in the process of objectifying on a conscious level. They also remind you of the deep certainty of your creaturehood, and by their flight evoke within you the knowledge that you are leaping from creaturehood into dimensions of actuality you only barely sense.

[...] It reinforces the animals’ sense of grace, in terms mentioned earlier in this book. [...]

[...] But an equivalent exists; using an analogy, it is as if ideas are built up not through sentence structure reinforced by inner visual images, but by like “mental” patterns structured through touch and scent — in other words, thinking, but within a framework entirely different and alien to you.

[...] Man’s “I am,” [seemingly] apart from nature — a characteristic necessary for the development of his kind of consciousness — led him into value judgments, and also necessitated some break with the deep inner certainties of other species.

Because of your educational framework, the individual is taught to be wary of the inner self, as mentioned earlier (in the 614th session in Chapter Two, for instance), so unfortunately the ordinary man or woman looks for the solutions of personal problems outside of the self, where they can least be found. [...] The conscious knowledge alone will trigger intuitional responses within the inner self so that you will receive helpful information through dreams, impulses, and ordinary thought patterns.

(More intently:) I speak with the inner vitality that is inherent within each of my readers, with the inner knowledge that also belongs to them.

[...] It is a good idea to write down a list of specific acts or incidents that fill you with a sense of guilt. [...]

(A note pertaining to the material given just before break: In Chapter Nineteen Seth deals with reincarnation in a general sense, but he’s said little in this book about his psychic “connections” with Jane and me. [...]

[...] On the other hand, if you allow yourselves freedom, if you give your inner selves freedom, then, indeed, you can leave your bodies happily, safely and easily. [...] It has to do with your sense of inner freedom. [...]

The inner self does not know the meaning of time. [...] The inner self knows far better, and the inner self goes its way acting as if time did not exist because it does not exist. [...]
