When Ruburt attempts his paintings he tries to catch the inwardness before its moment of construction, with the form not yet fully in appearance, but between. It is for this reason that he has so much difficulty with his perspective.

[...] You do not see here a sort of partnership that applies to your relationship in general, the reason also for his technical inability in painting, and his technical ability in writing.

[...] Seth deals with this fact to some extent as far as his relationship to Jane is concerned. Jane is not Seth now, he states, not his subconscious mind; nevertheless Jane’s entity Ruburt is, now, an extension and materialization of the Seth that he was at one time, centuries ago. [...]

Allegorically speaking, from the inside he reaches outward, his hands full of inwardness, but it is you who form the inwardness. [...]

When someone who has been ill starts on the road to recovery through changing his beliefs, he may be quite surprised to find even his dearest allies suddenly upset, reminding him of the “reality” of his dire state for the same reasons.

2. In Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, Seth designed all but two of his eight exercises, or practice elements, to help the reader directly explore some of the aspects of probable realities — although even the exceptions (numbers 6 and 8) aren’t far removed from probability concepts. His first practice element grew out of Jane’s projection into a probable past in her hometown of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

[...] You are hardly alone, however, so each individual alive also has his and her private dreams, and these help form the accepted probability sequence of the following day, and of “time to come.” [...]

4. In Volume 1, see Session 687 at 10:01: Seth discussed how the dreamer and his or her probable selves, having “the same psychic roots,” can share in working out a given challenge in a probable reality.

There is a woman close to him with whom he has a brotherly relationship, and who helps tend to his wants. He is about 54, and up and about, and still at work in his way, however. [...]

[...] He knows of me, he is not aware of all the levels of his own identity or personality. [...]

[...] Hidden within the sessions there is the splendid vitality of Father Trenton, his (Jane’s) mother, his neighbors and teachers — but beyond that the sessions connect and unite the annals of existence as he has experienced them, so that in speaking with my voice, and for me (quavering), he expresses the blessed vitality and acknowledgments of the universe, as even through the sessions the sweet universe acknowledges his own presence and being. [...]

I will indeed now close our session, the reason mainly being that Ruburt has been oriented in a quickened fashion toward our work since he began his book again, and he has used additional energy in doing so. I am always conscientiously aware of his condition at any time. [...]

Ruburt experienced this in his psychological time experiment this afternoon, and it reminded me that more material definitely was needed here.

It is even possible for the physical individual to train himself to change the nature of his own perception of such objects. [...]

[...] Incidentally, his system automatically as a rule seeks those foods that tend to build up the particular sort of energy that he uses in the main. [...]

God was seen as cruel and powerful when man believed that these were desirable characteristics, needed particularly in his battle for physical survival. He projected these upon his idea of a god because he envied them and feared them. [...]

(9:46.) Your Christ figure represents, symbolically, your idea of God and his relationships. [...]

[...] Your ideas of personality are too limited to contain the multitudinous facets of his multidimensional existence.

(10:55.) On the other hand, he is human, in that he is a portion of each individual; and within the vastness of his experience he holds an “idea-shape” of himself as human, to which you can relate. [...]

He can only play with the projections of reality within his own system. He can indeed do much damage, but only to his own camouflage universe. [...]

Not sufficient faith in the evidence of his own experiments. [...] A geographic magazine that has an article on Tibet, on a second shelf in his office. [...]

The object, a shoelace that he holds in his hand.

His education, his everyday pattern of existence, his cultural values, tend to imprison him so that he can only view other societies through the murky haze of his own misconceptions. [...]

[...] The fact is that Western man has not only cut himself off from half of his own ability, and half of his own knowledge because of his insistence upon an artificial dual nature, but he has also cut himself off from the very primitive societies from which he could learn very much about these abilities, which he himself refuses to admit.

Ruburt has been complaining with loud inner wails because he has been sleeping later in the mornings, and hasn’t put in his full work time this week. [...]

[...] The idea of the subconscious mind is merely a grudging, hedging, partial admission that man is more than the conscious ego, more than the sum of his parts, and more than a mechanism.

[...] A true identification with nature, however, would show glimpses of man’s place in the context of his physical planet, and would bring to the forefront accomplishments that he has achieved almost without his knowing.

2. I underlined the word story (like this) in Seth’s material just to remind the reader that the Christ figure symbolizes our idea of God and his relationships. [...] Seth discussed the Christ story in various passages in The Seth Material and Seth Speaks, and has at least touched upon it in all of his succeeding books.

[...] This is an often-heard sentence — and yet the main point of the Christ story² was not Christ’s death but his birth, and the often-stated proposition that each person was indeed “a child of the father.”

[...] The religions do insist that man has a purpose, yet in their own confusion they often speak as if that purpose must be achieved by denying the physical body in which man has his life’s existence, or by “rising above” “gross, blunted,” earthly characteristics. [...]

(His head was bare and his hair blowing in a wind. [...] As Bill Gallagher walked down the hall away from us upon departing, I saw that he wore a long black coat with I believe a hood upon it—a garment quite like that he wore in the vision, and one I possessed no special knowledge of in his wardrobe.

There are some significant differences here you see, in my knowledge and Maltz’s interpretation as given in his book. [...]

Tell our friend, Ruburt, that Nassair should not set up what he is thinking of setting up, his offshore fund; and tell Ruburt that that is the only message I have for Mr. Nassair at this time. He will want to know because it is on his mind. [...]

[...] We will hopscotch back and forth and with our friend Ruburt, for this is also one of his main lines of interest, but your own experience can be used to benefit by the class at large for you must be led to see that you can alter physical events in such a way. [...]

[...] The individual had lost a sense of the reality and meaning and purpose of his own identity. [...]

His nod however was a blessing upon you. It was of course the knowledge that he would necessarily die before you will that gave rise to his passing by, but the dream did not involve an immediate clairvoyant knowledge of his death.

(Our landlord and his wife, James and Marian Spaziani, were scheduled to attend tonight’s session, and to arrive by 8:30. [...]

A familiarity must be gained by an individual with the general nature of his own dreams first, as Ruburt now has some knowledge or intuition that enables him to distinguish between dreams that originate in areas having to do with past lives, and those which originate in other areas, though he is not yet able to further differentiate.

[...] Encourage him to follow his impulses to be the self that he is.

[...] When I wish I could somehow make you understand that reality springs from your thoughts, and not the other way around, and that any given thought is far more real in basic terms than the table upon which Ruburt rests his foot (stamping upon the table with that foot). [...]

[...] Do not be concerned if his reading fluctuates, for the fluctuations are a necessary part of his improvement as various muscles try out their new facility. [...]

(A note: I think that when he talked about the unchosen probabilities being changed by the one chosen, Seth might have at least hinted at something new in his material. [...]

Lift up his rib cage area (gesture,) so that he gets the idea of that up and down easy motion. [...]

[...] She said she felt “something” go out to me from her body while Seth paused during his delivery... [...]

[...] In the first of the two he remarked that “Ruburt is still dealing with spin-off material following or resulting from his sinful-self data….” In the second one he stressed that although Jane was still afraid of spontaneous bodily relaxation, “[Ruburt] is safe, supported and protected—that is, of course, the message that he is trying to get through his head at this time.” [...]

At the beginning of these notes I wrote that three months passed after Jane finished Chapter 10 of Dreams before she held her next session—a private one—on November 9. In that short session Seth sought to add his reassurances to Jane’s own, and to mine as well.¹⁰ On the 12th Columbia was launched as scheduled, but only after another delay caused by the failure of an electronic decoding unit. [...] In the meantime, on the evening of the 12th, following his suggestion that she resume the sessions on a twice-weekly basis, Jane spoke for Seth in another private session. [...]

[...] He is trying to uncover his own natural faith. That attempt, of course, brings him into conflict with whatever doubts still stand in his way.

“Ruburt’s body is allowing itself to relax, particularly on the couch when his back is supported. [...] He is safe, supported and protected—that is, of course, the message that he is trying to get through his head at this time. [...]

10:07 P.M. Once Jane was out of trance, I told her that most of Seth’s material since break can also be considered book work, including his hint about his own reality. [...] I could almost hear his amused elaborations upon: “Alone, reason finally becomes unreasonable. [...]

That note makes a handy reference for related concepts, for in it I also briefly discussed subatomic “particles”; the components of atoms; molecules; supposed faster-than-light particles (tachyons); Seth’s CU’s, or units of consciousness; his assertion that consciousness can travel faster than light in out-of-body states; Jane’s scientific vocabulary; and Einstein’s special theory of relativity. [...]

2. Just for my own study, I later inserted “[almost]” in Seth’s sentence because I hadn’t been quick enough to ask him to elaborate upon “the end result of an infinite series of sequences” when Jane delivered his material for him. [...]
