[...] Pleas for help (directed to Jane as well as Seth) were seen as demands — not as opportunities to use abilities — so he felt hounded. He was not sure enough of his new world; he was still enough a part of the old one so that he often saw his life and abilities through the eyes of the “old world inhabitants” — the others who might scorn him, or set him up for ridicule.¹³ They represented portions of his own psyche still at that level of consciousness, not having quite assimilated the greater knowledge or experience, so he felt he needed protection — the protection that would … cleverly … serve all of his purposes, allowing him to go ahead as he wanted to … that would keep him at home working, and yet also serve as a control against too much inner spontaneity until he learned that he could indeed trust the new world of experience.

[...] You have confidence in your ability to move through space, so you might then explore the terrain that you could not see from your original landing point. [...]

[...] Some of it was quite personal, but one part consisted of Seth’s response to an assessment she’d written after supper tonight, wherein she examined her progress since the inauguration of her psychic abilities late in 1963. [...]

[...] All of these passages show Jane’s attempts to understand her abilities and beliefs, and to relate them to herself and to the world in general.

By themselves, whether they appear as superior or defective conditions, they necessitate a different kind of adaptability, a change of subjective or physical focus, the intensification of other abilities that perhaps have been understressed. [...]

Each person seeks value fulfillment, and that means that they choose various lives in such a fashion that all of their abilities and capacities can be best developed, and in such a way that their world is also enriched. [...]

[...] I make a distinction between sympathy and pity, for a lively sympathy leads toward construction, toward the utilization of abilities, even to social discourse, while pity can be deadening.

I make recommendations now and then, and now and then you see fit to follow them … ¹⁰ Considering Ruburt’s challenges, he has done extremely well as he cleared away the debris that literally surrounds the lives of most people … In a way his progress has been dependent upon the state of his learning, so that he has been trying to stretch the abilities of normal consciousness by drawing in other “strands.”¹¹ Yet because he was the one so involved, he had to test each strand; and in the meantime he still had his “old” consciousness, with its habits, to contend with.

(Yet even producing the Seth books — along with a great amount of unpublished Seth material — doesn’t call upon all of Jane’s abilities, for she’s also written 10 books “on her own.” [...]

[...] Ruburt’s spontaneity lets all of his creative abilities emerge. [...]

That progression in Jane’s endeavors (and in my own to a lesser degree) may reflect her strong writing and psychic abilities, but it also reveals the way we constantly work with her work, and how we go about presenting it in the form of physical books so that we can show others what we’ve been up to.

[...] Man’s abilities in this respect are far more complicated, for in his imagination he deals with probabilities. [...]

[...] In your species the spiritual, mental and psychic abilities add a dimension that is biologically pertinent.
