(Since September 30 Seth has held two ESP class sessions; held a session for our friend John Barclay, who is moving to Nevada; held two sessions concerning the work Jane and I are embarking upon because of this material; and spoken through Jane upon television once more — this time during our return visit to a Washington, D.C. station.

(Early this month Jane and I bought an anthology containing a long section by Carl Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst who died in 1961. [...]

When you ask: “What is my psyche, or my soul, or who am I?” you are seeking of course for your own meaning as apart from what you already know about yourself. [...]

(Long pause at 10:47.) When you ask: “Who am I?” you are trying to read yourself as if you were a simple sentence already written. [...]

(We also discussed a letter Jane had received today from a young man who’d visited us unannounced a couple of months ago; he thinks he’s being bugged by nasty voices from outer space; before that he’d insisted that Seth was speaking through him. [...]

[...] Dr. K. went home to call Dr. Sobel in Ithaca, and Dr. Wilwerth at St. Joe’s. The former is a rheumatologist who examined Jane at the Arnot, the latter is a specialist in circulatory matters. [...]

[...] Dr K. saw her, and Dr. Wilwerth, who stayed only a few minutes and didn’t think a clot was involved. [...]

[...] The nurse, Joyce, who was head of the treatment for decubiti at the hospital spent a lot of time going over the proper treatment with us, and gave us a quantity of sterile water, Silvadene, sponges, saline solution, etc. [...]

Your relationship alone, as unsatisfactory as it may seem to you at times, has served, and will, as a beacon for many who have not dared to try for so much, who have not dared to accept the challenges that you have accepted.

The mistrust of mobility, or fear that it could be taken away, was built up also, with other reasons given in the sessions, simply through the suggestion over the years of living with someone who was not mobile. [...]

[...] Many music or art teachers belong in that category, where the arts are taught with a love of excellence, a stress upon technique — into which the artist, who is often a Sumari (although not always, by any means) can put his or her creativity. [...]

(Here’s one point brought out in that deleted material: Since Seth had told Jane and me long ago that the three of us belong to the Sumari family of consciousness,⁴ we were more than curious now when he declared that the woman who presently owns the house on Foster Street is also a Sumari: “[She] added Sumari characteristics of expansiveness.” [...]

You had a brief life as twins—some definite clear-cut divisions within yourself, have to do with this life when you were one of two—one going one way, and one going the other—one twin had a strong leaning toward military things—a soldier—the organization of the church now serves the same purpose, I believe—security within the organization—the twin who was in the military found his sense of identity as a soldier within the system, but he had great faith in the system—in what he was doing—the other twin was more given to a statesman-like sort of thing—and was in fact an orator, although he had another profession—it included oration to people—the two of you had a very strong telepathic relationship—and this time the church has provided the same kind of organization—you sort of resented the fact that this twin brother of yours had this organization in which he found support and in which he felt so a part because he was absolutely certain of the aims and goals of the organization and he was a good soldier within it—and at that time you envied him that security and that sense of identity within the system in which he believed. For those of you who want to conduct your own experiments, remember: A precognitive dream is one in which you receive future information that you could receive in no normal manner. [...]

[...] The individuals who seek out treatment fear the nature of their own identity more than anything else. [...]

[...] Ruburt therefore felt obligated to help Rooney, who did not really have any love for him — just as in his earlier years he [Jane] had felt obligated to help his mother.

[...] The cat was not a passive receptor, however, and also learned from his encounters with your neighbor downstairs (who also has a cat). Many of Ruburt’s feelings about his mother are buried in Rooney’s grave. [...]

[...] On a subconscious basis the individual is drawn to others who have had similar experiences to his own. [...]

It is the ego, practically speaking, who attempts to do the distinguishing here; but the inner core of the self, the inner ego of which we have spoken, manages the basic chore. [...]

[...] The three people were a Mr. Connor, who Bill definitely did not expect to see, and his two children.

I did indeed, and the young man who took them.

The perceptions of those who exist within them are basically different than your own, and many of them will not perceive you. Those who do are apt to be projecting also, you see. [...]

This facility, the translation of data to the ego, who would otherwise distrust it, any such translation is nevertheless a secondhanded version of the original reality; and that is an important point.
