“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(While she was giving Seth’s data, Jane said she had images of a childhood playground in Saratoga Springs, NY, with houses nearby, but recognized this as her own data and did not give it as Seth’s. She felt sure the test object had a northern, as versus a southern, background, but did not say so because Seth did not say so.

(More inner-sense delineations are to come, according to Seth. [...] I have often meant to remind Seth to mention the specific senses along with the material under discussion but have not done so.

[...] She said that when she heard Seth ask me for the envelope test, she became nervous, for as Jane she had no intention of asking for a test. Then, Jane said, when she realized she did feel nervous, and that she was sitting stiffly, she relaxed and let Seth take over.

[...] While Seth was giving his data on the photograph, she said, she was also aware of several images of her own. It was as though she heard what Seth was saying, then conjured up her own separate set of visual images. [...]

[...] Tam Mossman said: “Seth was certainly into my imaginative life; also, he has me pegged psychologically.” Tam said Seth’s data about his inner life was “especially true.” He also cited similarities between his doodles and the crest decoration Seth described.

[...] She was very relaxed at break, and told us that Seth was keeping her half under so as to make her resumption as Seth easier; she could reach trance depth quicker.

(Seth did speak briefly the next evening however. [...] Seth greeted us, gave a few voice effects which were controlled because of the hour and the proximity of other tenants, and expressed his willingness and capability to continue until six in the morning. [...]

[...] He had arrived yesterday to spend the weekend with us and to discuss the book Jane is doing on the Seth material. [...]

[...] Seems the gal had read Seth Speaks and The Seth Material. [...]

(I thought of two questions for Seth as I drove down to the hospital this noon:

[...] I knew that in the past Seth had insisted that she did not. [...]

(As mentioned by Seth in the last session, I have begun keeping a record of outside weather data from our television weather channel. [...] When we begin our dream experiments with the recorder, we will also keep a daily weather record, again as suggested by Seth.

[...] Jane’s eyes opened wide immediately after Seth’s greeting, which is most unusual. [...] Seth/Jane was quite pleased and amused, and spoke with a smile. [...]

(Usually now we do not ask Seth to explain every reference made in a test if we do not see any connection. We list what we see as connections, and have noted that if we are really puzzled about any test data, Seth will say something about the problem after break.

[...] Note the error, 1985, in the postmark; I thought Seth might comment on this but he did not. [...]

(We discussed the general implications of Seth’s material on my mother — that she was not only “alive” after her “death,” but that a portion of her was focused upon Jane and me. Jane had allowed Seth to talk about the whole situation in a more personal way than she usually does; the result is that we already have more data on Stella Butts than on the earlier deaths of Jane’s own parents [in 1971 and 1972], for instance.⁴ We knew that Seth wouldn’t continue describing my mother and her present reality indefinitely; such a study could easily grow into a book by itself. [...] I also think that Seth will be able to say more on the beliefs behind her feelings as this book progresses.

[...] But that’s funny: I don’t think of Seth being over there — just the information. It’s as though I wait for the material to fall into a slot; then Seth, who’s here” — she touched her belly — “deals with it.”

[...] When Seth comes through he’s at the same level the material’s at, and he — or I — can then pull it in … It’s as though there’s a store of information there, but I have to go through a door of consciousness to reach it.”

[...] As stated this creed grew out of the last, 584th session for May 3, 1971, Seth Speaks, pages 321 and 322, where Seth discussed the ego’s fear of being swamped by strong creative abilities, etc. [...]

[...] Jane has already learned that she doesn’t want to do merely psychic, Seth books, like the Edgar Cayce series, for instance—from her own work on the creed. [...] It doesn’t really matter that the Seth material is excellent, etc. [...]

(In earlier deleted material, Seth told us that Jane’s slower physical motions since the publication of The Seth Material was, in part, caused by her desire to slow down to give me a chance to catch up to her own success, etc., through my painting.)

[...] Here are a few details of my own cold-like symptoms which began on Tuesday night, May 4, and which Seth discusses below. [...]

(Then, in a private session held on the evening of September 17, 1977, Seth came through with a very exciting concept called “Framework 1 and Framework 2.” [...] Briefly and very simply, Seth maintains that Framework 2, or inner reality, contains the creative source from which we form all events, and that by the proper focusing of attention we can draw from that vast subjective medium everything we need for a constructive, positive life in Framework 1, or physical reality. We’ve already made known to Seth our desires that he go into his Frameworks 1 and 2 material much more extensively in Mass Events, since those concepts are so closely involved with the individual and collective experiences surrounding the lives of everyone.³

(Finally: Just before tonight’s session Jane said she thought Seth might do some work on Mass Events. She had a question about herself, and I asked for a few lines from Seth on whether she just might have been born left-handed. [...] [See the excerpts from Session 211, in Appendix 18 of that work.] However, Seth didn’t answer my question.)

“But Seth apparently just delivers his material verbally, and that’s it,” Jane wrote after reading my first draft of this note. [...] If I do any of that work as Seth, it’s so unconscious and fast that I’m not aware of it. And Seth’s ‘writing’ needs hardly any changes.”

(The two sets of material are also different in certain subtle ways, although one can always justifiably say that each subject Seth discusses is in some fashion a part of his overall philosophy. [...] In other words, it’s somewhat ironic that during the break in dictating Mass Events Seth-Jane actually produced the equivalent of another book, but one that we can’t do much about, at least at this time.¹

(I also planned to start reviewing the first deleted sessions Seth gave on Jane’s symptoms, for I’ve never really forgotten them and always felt they were as good as any Seth has ever given on those subjects. [...] According to Seth’s suggested use of the point of power, and his late deleted material, one isn’t supposed to dwell on the past, but go forward from the present—two major blocks of material, I told Jane this evening, that at first glance seem to contradict each other. [...]

(At this writing at least I plan to spend evenings typing new session material, and in the time left over to restudy the past material in the hopes of putting it all together with and/or without Seth’s help. But out of this work I expect our questions for Seth will come. [...]

[...] When the session began I half expected Seth to tell us to stay away from old deleted sessions, since as mentioned delving into the past can cause too intense a focus there, and reinforce problems, whatever they may be. But he didn’t. I said to Jane later that it seems Seth will tailor his material to suit our needs and/or moods of the moment, which may be one of the ways to integrate blocks of his material into a larger whole, which can display many facets or approaches.)

(In the last session Seth promised to begin dictation on his latest book after a long layoff, but as things turned out the book was not begun anew. [...]

(Tonight before the session we reread the deleted session for August 1, in which Seth had given some very optimistic forecasts for improvements on Jane’s part. [...] Not, however, Seth’s prediction that a vast improvement in Jane’s eyes would show up in a week to 10 days.

(This prediction was coupled with Jane’s use of the hot towels on her knees—as Seth has suggested she do often in the recent sessions—and which Jane has largely ignored. [...] So we asked that Seth consider our laxness in not using the towels in the session tonight.

(“Good evening, Seth.”)

(“Thank you, Seth.”)

[...] Jane didn’t sound like Seth at all a good part of the time, and she realized this to some degree. She felt as if she were projecting through time, rather than through space at the last; re: Seth’s moment points. Perhaps Jane was speaking more for herself with Seth’s guidance. She started with the Seth voice then gradually used one that was between her normal voice and Seth’s. Florence noticed that the tense changed from we to I for a while also.)

(It was hoped that in this session Seth would give impressions concerning the Gallaghers’ vacation. [...]

(Before the session tonight Jane told me she thought Seth was getting ready to start another book of his own soon. [...] She has no idea of subject matter, title, etc., for any projected book by Seth. It can be said that such an undertaking wasn’t expected by us at this time, seeing as how we have just finished proofreading the galleys for Seth’s first book last month.

[...] She or Seth, hadn’t been bothered by an eruption of noise from the apartment over us; several people entered there after the session started; there was much walking about, banging of furniture, etc, that I found quite irritating. [...]

(A note: According to Seth, the Lumanians were the second of a group of three highly technological civilizations that existed on our planet long before the time of Atlantis. In the 563rd session Seth mentioned that he would soon discuss the third of these cultures. [...] It could have been, but because of the long break between the last two sessions on Seth’s book, we simply did not remember to ask for it….)

[...] That’s been it, even though I had hoped at various times that work could be done on Seth’s book. [...]

[...] I had no doubt that when Seth resumed dictation, it would be impossible to detect any sign of a break in continuity.

(“Good evening, Seth.”)

[...] Seth-Jane certainly appeared able to keep going. [...] “Once I get on the right track, Seth just keeps going, and I don’t want to change it or get off … I think it’s a great development. But you know: If you think you’re on to something no one else has, you’re afraid you’ll be called batty by the rest of the world … Seth is a great organizer, though. It’s like there’s a tremendous amount of work being done behind the sessions, so I can get the data — but this isn’t like the channels from Seth [as described in the 616th session in Chapter 2 of Personal Reality].”

[...] Jane had been speaking for Seth for three-quarters of an hour, and showed no real inclination to stop. As in the other sessions of this book, I was aware of an extra charge or impetus, an added determination on Seth-Jane’s part. [...]

(“Can I ask a question?” As Seth, Jane nodded. [...] I’d been hoping Seth would go into this. [...]

[...] Now she was bleary-eyed: “I feel as though I don’t want to think for two weeks …” Seth hadn’t said so during the session, but Jane told me she’d “picked up from him” that she should eat an extra meal a day for a while — usually late at night, as, say, after a session. [...] Jane’s comments before tonight’s session about possible instructions from Seth are given in Appendix 5.

(One circumstance that kept her in this state came to my attention when she casually mentioned as she sat in the rocker, “Seth’s still here. [...] Seth, it seemed, occupied a space about five feet high, a “blob” of space into which I could step, just at the limit of Jane’s reach, without disturbing him. Seth’s presence lingered into the evening as the three of us talked.)

[...] (Seth smiled.) The possibilities that have come to reality within this universal system have each given birth to other systems and realities, as one tree bears a thousand seeds. [...]

[...] Seth came through rather stronger than usual and somewhat rapidly in a louder voice. [...]

(Time may show that this session is one of the most significant to date, as far as demonstrations of the authenticity of the Seth Material are concerned. [...] It might be added that Jane and I have no set opinions concerning the Seth Material. [...]

[...] My personal feeling is that Seth’s enormous cranium in the drawings is a symbolic one—perhaps one pertaining to Bill’s feeling that Seth possesses greater or different knowledge than we do.

(At Seth’s suggestion, I again quizzed Bill on his sighting of Seth’s image; Bill verified the notes I had already taken and have included in this record. [...]

[...] She said this was one of the occasions when Seth could have gone on for hours; he felt fine and was in a rare mood. Also, Jane said Seth had played a trick on her during the last delivery: He had not let her approach my writing table, where she usually let her cigarettes lay, and she had been unable to smoke.

(Next, the subject matter of the 18th session led me to recall that Seth had also discussed trees several years later. [...] [If the indexes listed everything in detail, they’d end up being almost as long as the sessions themselves.] The search was worth it, though; now I had the key phrase I’d associated with Seth’s remark in Session 708. [...]

(First I thought of Seth’s assertion in the 92nd session for September 28, 1964, that “trees have their dreams”; [in Volume 1, see the quotations in Note 1 for Session 698]. [...]

(Seth, then, in the 453rd session for December 4, 1968:)

[...] They had no questions for Seth prior to the session; Tom said he had been giving Seth questions mentally earlier today, and also earlier in the week. [...]

(The older woman referred to by Seth is Virginia’s aunt, the younger is the aunt’s daughter-in-law. [...] The daughter-in-law, Virginia said, is “rather thin,” as stated by Seth.

[...] Virginia agreed with Seth’s interpretations concerning her. Tom said Seth gave “some terrific material” regarding banking; he then proceeded to explain some of the details to us. [...]

(Note that this is the first regular session since February 17, although Seth has given material in ESP class since then. [...]

(She had put her glasses on after leaving trance, and now left them on when she resumed, as Seth. [...] Instead of the heavier and strong usual Seth voice she began to speak in almost a normal manner. [...]

[...] Above, Seth refers to the brief session Jane held in the coffee shop of the Paramount Hotel in New York City, for Raymond Van Over of the Parapsychology Foundation. In this little session she spoke with Seth “just below the surface” in a crowded room, without attracting attention, and delivered for Raymond Van Over some excellent data which he verified on the spot. [...]

(Tonight then, Jane manifested three different voices while in trance: the regular Seth voice, somewhat strong, very clear and concise, the one we are so used to; next the light and lilting voice with Jane’s own mannerisms overlying Seth who hovers just below; and finally the muffled, masculine old man’s voice, so different from any produced before this.)

(“Good evening, Seth.”)

(The first time I read her the session she fell asleep when I got to the Seth material, so after she came awake with a start I read it to her again. [...]

[...] Seth’s opening remarks were undoubtedly in response to my own remarks at the close of yesterday’s session, when I’d written that he often didn’t follow through, as promised, on material.)

(“Good afternoon, Seth.”)

(“Thank you, Seth.”

(Sometime later during the night, when all was quiet, Jane awoke and received another message from Seth: Seth told me, Jane, I was wrong in saying to Rob “You were some help,” as his attack came on at once after the remark.)

[...] I would like to ask Seth about it, at this evening’s session, this being a Monday.

[...] This time, the reaction from Seth was much stronger.

[...] I did not really feel like taking fifteen to twenty pages of dictation from Seth; I was concerned lest I miss some of the material.
