Because you respond as physical creatures you respond best of all to tangible physical results. [...] If you knew how to handle energy effectively, if you fully realized that your thoughts were the motivating factor, were the realities, then you would not need a physical existence, for that is the reason for the physical environment.

Each physical glass is constructed of quite real molecules and atoms, which have their own generalized consciousness and capsule comprehension, and which form together in the gestalt called a glass.

This merely means that the characteristics of their reality differs from the reality of physical construction. There is always an inner comprehension of such constructions, but the conscious mind has its purpose of dealing with the world of physical construction, is itself a physical construction, and unaware of other realities.

It is true that generally your energy is focused into physical construction and manipulation. [...] Those ideas which are impractical to construct physically, either for psychological or psychic reasons, are channeled into construction on other planes or levels.

[...] Many personalities upon receiving knowledge of their entity prefer to remain part of it, though they are always independent individualities within the whole entity, as even the cells of your physical bodies are part of the whole self. [...]

The cells of your physical body incidentally also have their awareness, which may seem minute and insignificant to you, but they make independent decisions upon which you depend in very important degrees. [...]

Now, so do the cells in your own body have self-consciousness and individuality to some extent, and so on a different scale entirely do they make decisions. [...]

You as a physical being are also dependent upon many forces that you do not understand, so there is no contradiction in saying that the cells are individual and independent, and yet dependent upon stronger organization. [...]

Now I do not like the term astral bodies, simply because of the sometimes weird connotations connected with the phrase. There is a kind of idea, or mental body, a counterpart in many ways, but not always, to the physical body, which is the structure the self takes in what you may call for now fourth dimension.

[...] The dream reality is as real and actual as physical reality, but it can be changed you see by you, as physical reality can be changed.

[...] The potential form therefore exists long before it’s physical materialization, as far as your physical perceptions are concerned.

Physically therefore the house that you will live in within five years may not exist, in your terms, now. It may not have been built yet, therefore physically you do not perceive it. [...]

The next chapter will deal with the basic methods of communication that are used by any consciousness, according to its degree, whether or not it is physical. This will lead up to the basic communication used by human personalities as you understand them, and point out these inner communications as existing independently of the physical senses (pause), which are merely physical extensions of inner perception.

The next chapter will deal with your physical reality as it appears to me and others like me. This chapter will contain some rather fascinating points, for not only do you form the physical reality that you know, you are also forming other quite valid environments in other realities by your present thoughts, desires and emotions. They appear to lack the apparent physical durability of, say, a table or a chair, the table and chair being examples of physical realities. And yet their effect is much more durable, and they impress and to some extent manipulate physical realities, in their strong and sometimes explosive emergence into your universe. [...]

“If you have little memory of dream locations when you are awake, you have little memory of ‘physical’ locations when you are in the dream state. When the physical body lies in bed, it is separated by a vast distance from the dream location in which the dreaming self may dwell. But this distance has nothing to do with space, for the dream location can exist simultaneously with the room in which the body sleeps.

This does not mean that we do not sometimes leave our bodies and travel in our dream or astral bodies to other physical locations. [...] Some of my students, for example, have frequent out-of-body experiences from both the waking and the dream states, and on several such occasions we seem to have met in my living room.

In other words once more, even by your own farfetched time scheme, there is an interval of physical nonexistence for each interval of physical existence.

Physically, you do not exist for as long as, or the same amount of your time, that you do exist. We have called the interval of physical nonexistence antimatter, or negative matter. [...]

When his senses, his outer senses, do not perceive a physical object in his self-perspective (and hyphenate that please), in his self-perspective, the object simply does not exist. [...] Each individual himself creates a portion or a whole physical object. [...]

[...] It is true that each of you constructs his own physical universe, and responds to it. It is also true however, that through continuous telepathy you are acquainted with the ideas of others concerning their approximate physical universes; and while you construct and see your own, you also construct any given material object taking into consideration its approximate size, width, thickness and location, as received through telepathy from others.

Seth says that the physical body and its senses are specialized equipment to allow us to live in physical reality. To perceive other realities, we have to use the Inner Senses—methods of perception that belong to the inner self and operate whether or not we have a physical form. Seth calls the universe as we know it a “camouflage” system, since physical matter is simply the form that vitality—action—takes within it. [...]

“Personality and identity are not dependent upon physical form. [...] … You adopt a body as a space traveler wears a space suit, and for much the same reason.”

“All of this applies unless, of course, an individual is taken completely out of the physical time system. A murdered man will not be returned whole and intact to physical life [though he may return as a ‘spirit,’ believing he is still alive].

[...] This communication goes on constantly, but your ego is so focused upon physical reality and survival within it that you do not hear the inner voice. [...]

[...] They are not as nicely nor as neatly packaged out, one to a body, as your psychologists believe. [...] They use the physical body fully, or they partially depart according to their own inner needs and development.

Certain portions of these gestalts can then operate as ‘psychological particles’ in time and space, while other portions operate in a wavelike manner outside of time and space. These represent the unconscious elements of the species, which become ‘particleized’ in physical existence.”

[...] This sort of thing simply could not be understood by the physically focused individual … The survival personality’s inner self gives this reassembled ego ideas in the same way that, often, the subconscious gives the ego concepts in physical existence. This reassembled ego then attempts to perceive these insights in terms of sense perceptions, which are sent to the physical individual at the other end. Sometimes the communications are made directly, though they must be sifted through the subconscious of the one who is physical. [...]

[...] They operate as compensations and reminders to prevent you from overidentifying yourself with your present physical body.” [...]

[...] I discover that I can do a peculiar thing to my brain by somehow tightening the muscles on my scalp and then doing something intense with a sound I can ‘hear.’ The sound holds, and I can feel my astral body shudder inside my physical one. [...] I get out of my body this way, float above the couch and go back in. I try the same technique, tightening the scalp muscles and feel my astral body stir. This time I get out of my physical body and stand staring at it. [...] I know quite clearly that I am out of my body, experimenting and in no difficulty. So I turn, leave my body behind on the couch and walk out the door and down to the dock outside our house.

[...] The responsibility of dealing with physical reality remains, but in some respects the nature of this manipulation changes. [...] Physical properties are manipulated more and more at a mental level. [...]

‘Look, do you recall anything about physical birth? [...]

We have spoken of the interdependence and cooperation, biologically, among organisms in your physical universe. The new appearance of an individual into the physical realm is aided by the psychic cooperation of individuals on your plane. Almost at once the new libido takes up its adopted duty of maintaining the physical universe, along with all others, and without hesitancy.

[...] We will involve ourselves in a much more thorough study along these lines, as we come to another body of subject material.

However, the basic cooperative nature of the libido is indeed responsible, in large degree, for the psychic cooperation in which all entities are involved, in the construction of a physical world of matter that is inhabited by all on your plane.

[...] You know that the individual cells of any form cooperate to form another, more complicated gestalt; and without the cooperation not only would the more complicated structure cease to operate, but the individual cells would also cease to operate.

[...] A human child, true; but an offspring in which the entire history of the earth is involved — a new creation arising not just from two parents, but from the entire gestalt of nature, from which the parents themselves once emerged; a private yet public affair in which the physical elements of earth become individualized; in which psyche and earth cooperate in a birth that is human, and in other terms, divine.

[...] If that were true, the species never would have been concerned beyond the issues of physical survival, and such is not the case. The species could have survived quite well physically without philosophy, the arts, politics, religion, or even structured language. [...]

Physically speaking, you would have no males or females unless first you had individuals. [...]

[...] I am quite aware that in your experience definite physical and psychological differences do exist. [...]

It is learning the methods of physical perception, as within you it experiences your reactions and becomes familiar with the ways in which you use physical senses to obtain information. It is forming its body in more or less faithful replica to what is required. [...]

When the lessons are learned there is no need for physical reality. The survival instinct, strongly connected with the physical self, keeps it anchored in focus within your system. [...]

[...] You must not forget that the analogy between your physical reality and the dream state does have a basic truth.

Even the physical planet, having vanished, basically would continue to exist. [...]
