“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

It is not that I am holding back so much as that, in your terms, what follows is dependent upon an understanding of concepts presented earlier. People who are still worrying about one soul, gods, and devils, must be helped to relate to greater realities from their own framework, and gently led away from it if possible. Probabilities have been mentioned in such a way that alternate realities are presented, showing such people that choices are available.

[...] Give us a moment … In no way could you predict what would happen to the child in that photograph of yourself.⁶ In no way now can you “predict” what will happen to you now. You can choose to accept as your reality any number of given unpredictable events. [...]

[...] Calculations impossible to describe occur, so that from this basic unpredictability you experience what seem to be predictable actions. This is only because you focus upon those actions that “make sense” in your reality, and ignore all others. [...] Nor was any harsh reality forced upon the mother by the dying child, for that portion of your mother was the part that regretted having had the child.

[...] In so doing it will experience All That Is through its own being, though interpreted, of course, through that familiar reality of its own. [...] Each probable self, however, will follow through in its own reality — that is, it will experience to the fullest those dimensions inherent to it. [...]

[...] You do not seem at this point able to realize that what you call evil works for what you call good, or that both are a part of energy, and that you are using energy to form your reality, both now and after this life. [...]

That is what I told you operates within your reality, and you did not listen to my answer. [...] In your reality, the stance that you adapt is a necessary one, and you must hold to it. [...]

([Ron:] “Are there instances in which a spirit from another reality would intervene in this reality, and we would call that a destructive act, but the spirit would say it was creative?”)

[...] (To Theodore) I believed and did not believe, as you earlier believed and did not believe, and did a good job of hiding from myself what I believed and what I did not believe. [...]

[...] Some, returning, provided guidebooks or travel folders, telling us what could be expected. You make your own reality. If you were from a foreign land and asked one person to give you a description of New York City, you might take his or her description for reality. [...]

You may, for example, have read books numbering the “inner realms,” and telling you what you can expect to encounter in each. [...] The authors, however, suppose that the devils have a reality outside of your belief in them, and such is not the case. [...] Therefore, whatever methods the authors used to triumph over these demons is often given as proof not only of the demons’ reality, but of each method’s effectiveness.

(Pause at 11:13.) Explorers traveling into inner reality, however, do not have the same kind of landmarks to begin with. [...] They did not understand that they found what they wanted to find, or that the seemingly objective phenomena originated in the reflections of the psyche.

[...] When your consciousness is not directly focused in physical reality, then, the great creativity of the psyche is given fuller play. [...] Until you learn to do this you will most certainly have difficulty, for you will not be able to tell the difference between your projections and what is happening in the inner environment.

[...] The private oracle: What does that mean? And what does it have to do with the unknown reality? More, what does it have to do with the practical world? [...]

(With many pauses:) Dictation … The unknown reality, probable man, dreams, the spin of electrons, the blueprints for reality — all of these are intimately related.

[...] You cannot know for sure, of course, what would have happened otherwise. You cannot know for sure what happened to those people who wanted to die. [...]

[...] Seth’s private oracle is analogous to her basic nonphysical source self, from which numerous Aspect selves simultaneously emerge into various realities. [...] The Aspect self that appears in our reality is the focus personality, “earthized” in physical form. [...]

My main point is that I also feel, without having asked Seth, that the farther one travels ahead in time the greater the play of probable realities and probable lives he or she encounters. [...] In some cases there will be a great fear of becoming lost among all of those realities. (What if one doesn’t want a probable reality they choose? [...]

[...] What freedoms might lie ahead—and yes, what challenges, too! [...] Yet our mass reality obviously is large enough to allow me room to generate such fanatical thoughts….

Then beyond those human-oriented parameters must lie a host of probable realities involving changes in psychic and physical form: nonhuman aspects of ourselves that in ordinary terms we’d have great difficulty relating to. This discussion could be carried further into such realms, but instead I’ll note that even here I don’t conceive of anything that would prohibit at least some exchanges between certain of those far probable realities and our own mundane universe. It all depends upon where you want to stop in your thinking, upon what you can conceive of….

There followed many sessions, both regular and private (or deleted, as we sometimes call them), in which Seth discussed Frameworks 1 and 2. As can happen when we’re consciously too close to a deep-seated situation, some little time passed before Jane and I realized the obvious: It wasn’t that we were unable to tune into Framework 2, say, for help in effecting a healing for her in the joint reality we’d created in Framework 1—but that in physical reality we were drawing from Framework 2 exactly what we wanted to, even if often on unconscious or unwitting levels. [...]

[...] There are indeed connections between what is called ectoplasm and the composition of dream images. [...] What is called the astral body is also composed of some of the same components.

Dream images are indeed, in density, between the tangible nature of physical objects and the intangible reality that is entirely independent of physical matter. The dream reality cannot be entirely disconnected from the material universe because of its connections with human personality. [...]

These are quite legitimate realities that continue in their own fashion, even though you are no longer concerned with them. They remain connected to you, that is to the personality, however, and are a part of the overall reality of the self. [...]

[...] The connection between what you might call materializations, and the physical organism, are also electrical and chemical. [...]

You could not be consciously aware of those other realities all of the time, and deal with the world that you know. [...] Yet there is more to the body than you perceive of it, and this is difficult to explain to you … If you can think of a multidimensional body existing at one time in various realities, and appearing differently within each one while still being whole, then you can get some glimpse of what is involved.³

[...] How many of you have actually thought of what the unconscious may be? [...] To what counterparts do they belong? And yet each of you, in your own identity, has the right to do precisely as you wish, and to form your own reality….

[Each of] you will create the attributes of reality that interest you and work with them in your own way. [...] And (to a black student) you cannot know what it is like to be black in this culture — you may not agree here — unless you are also white in it…. [...]

Now our friend Joseph here was able to handle another reality while still being involved in this one. [...] But in other terms, she was indeed running in another environment that our friend was able to see, and to superimpose over the reality he knew, while keeping both intact.

The whole purpose of what I am trying to teach is to allow yourself inner freedom to develop. [...] If you follow physical reality as a commandment then you will place your guilts in physical reality instead of getting rid of them as you should. [...]

[...] As long as you dwell on your own imperfections you accept that god, and it has no meaning in reality. You have created a concept of a god that has no reality. [...]

[...] You cannot become disconnected from it, regardless of what you do. [...]

[...] Accept what I say, but use your own abilities. [...]

[...] At such times she feels that subjective shape come down just over her head — always pointed upward, symbolically perhaps, toward other realities. [...] “I’m getting two things: The session’s going to be book dictation, which surprises me, but it’s also going to be on what’s happening to me now…. [...]

[...] For instance: If you plan to travel to a distant country in your own world, you can find such publications to tell you what to expect. When you journey into other realities, or when your consciousness leaves your body, you can also rely upon guidebooks that program your activities ahead of time. [...]

You know where physical reality is, then, on the dial of your multidimensional television set. [...] In a way you program yourself, going about your daily duties as conscientiously and effectively as usual — but at the same time you discover an additional portion of your own reality. [...] While fully enjoying the physical aspect you find that there is some part of you left over, so to speak; and that part can travel into other realities. [...]

[...] The people who have journeyed into the unknown reality have always been adventurous. [...] Those travelers no longer tried to make their own original snapshots of the strange environments and realities through which they passed. [...]

[...] To some extent what you know now is dependent upon what will be known, and what has been known, in your terms. [...]

[...] A choice presupposes probable acts, each possible, each capable of actualization within your system of reality. [...] In your terms, each decision you make alters the reality that you know to one degree or another.

[...] In your mind, try to follow “what might have happened” had you taken the course you did not take. Then imagine what might happen as a result of your chosen decisions. [...]

2. In Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, Seth designed all but two of his eight exercises, or practice elements, to help the reader directly explore some of the aspects of probable realities — although even the exceptions (numbers 6 and 8) aren’t far removed from probability concepts. [...]

As Seth continues to explain the nature of perception, it becomes obvious that physical perception itself shapes reality into certain forms. [...] The Seth Material reveals what is beneath the normal reality that we know, but the very translation into words must necessarily distort the meaning.

And what about the future? [...] Some we form into physical realities, in which case we follow through with the process mentioned above. [...]

As to who or what Seth is, his term “energy essence personality” seems as close to the answer as anyone can get. I don’t believe he is a part of my subconscious, as that term is used by psychologists, or a secondary personality. [...] I ascribe ESP abilities to this supraconscious and think that it has access to information regarding the nature of reality not normally available to the egotistical portions of the personality. [...]

[...] If he is my window into other realities, am I his window into physical life? [...] But this only leads to the question: What is nonphysical life like?

The experience of emotions and thoughts and other psychological realities that do not take up space physically within your universe, all represent portions of, small portions of, what I will for now term initial experience. Psychological reality, emotional reality, and the reality of thought also become valid to human personality through their existence as various intensities. All psychic realities are in this classification also. [...]

Within the mind the dream has an electrical reality. Within the brain the dream has an electric and psychological reality; a much weaker electrical reality. That is, it still exists as an electrical reality, but it is not recognized as such by the brain or the psychological awareness of an individual. To the individual the dream has only a psychological reality.

You must, then, project or materialize the dream universe outside of the physical self in an electric reality, and then reinterpret it, because the original dream experience has an electric reality that cannot be perceived or used, even by its creators, until it is decoded.

[...] Dreams, having an electrical reality as I explained, must be decoded to have meaning to various levels of the subconscious and the personality. [...]

“And so there may be others now (like Seth), also without images, but knowing — others who have been what we are and more — others who remember what we have forgotten. They may have discovered through some acceleration of consciousness other forms of being, or dimensions of reality of which we are also part.

The next chapter will deal with the emotional realities of love and kinship between personalities — with what happens to these during succeeding incarnations, for some fall by the wayside and some are retained.

[...] Actually what we object to is the conventional idea of a spirit, which is an extension of quite limited ideas of human personality, only projected more or less intact into an afterlife. [...] Seth may be a dramatization playing a very real role — explaining his greater reality in the only terms we can understand. [...]

The next chapter will deal with your physical reality as it appears to me and others like me. This chapter will contain some rather fascinating points, for not only do you form the physical reality that you know, but you are also forming other quite valid environments in other realities by your present thoughts, desires and emotions.

Now I am simply giving you a brief idea of what is involved, and I expect each of you to follow through in your own way, to see the connections and think about them. And now, before you, what do you see? [...] You see a range of human being and personality that defies conventional ideas of sexuality or of consciousness — that defies all of the ideas that have been handed down to you, and that challenges you each to look for the reality of your own being.

[...] To allow yourself what is now, in your terms, a luxury of passivity, you must have confidence in the nature of your own reality and strength. [...]

[...] But you always know what you are doing, and there are cycles in the earth, and in your being and your soul. And so you are in the process of reuniting yourself, and discovering what the word “humanity” means. [...] Regardless of what words are put upon your experience in terms of sexual roles, you will be a full human being. [...]

[...] You have associated the word “female” with the unconscious, while you have been working toward what you now think of as an egotistically based consciousness. There is more in what I am saying than you presently realize. [...]

[...] Because the dimensions of your reality are so little understood, your concepts are bound to be limited. [...] He says through his religions that he has a soul indeed, without even asking what a soul is, and often he seems to regard it, again, as an object in his possession.

What often happens is that your conception of reality is so limited that you take fright whenever you perceive any experience that does not fit into your conception. [...]

This characteristic of materializing thoughts and emotions into physical realities is an attribute of the soul. Now in your reality, these thoughts are made physical. In other realities, they may be “constructed” in an entirely different fashion. So your soul, that which you are, constructs your physical daily reality for you from the nature of your thoughts and expectations.

(9:50.) Now, there are no closed systems in reality. In your physical system the nature of your perceptions limits your idea of reality to some extent, because you purposely decide to focus within a given “locale.” [...]

You were learning what the feel of your own energy was, and each of you must learn it individually for yourselves. [...] But before we are finished you will feel the power of your own energy and learn what to do with it. [...] You will have to learn what to do with it. [...]

[...] You can use it to move from reality to reality. You can use it to understand your present reality now and to understand your fellow being as in the communication that took place here. [...]

[...] And the concepts are not to be used as elegant fences that you climb up and, hopefully, over or that you admire, but the concepts will begin to open up for you so that you experience their reality. And any reality to you, at this time, involves emotional awareness and gradations of it. [...]

[...] But you will have no difficulty starting with the stage that was discussed here this evening, and each of you know intuitively what that stage is. And you will all learn what true communication is, for you will learn to communicate in various levels of consciousness and you will learn to listen to me in various levels of consciousness, and you will learn to know me in various levels of consciousness so that you can see (feel?)[sic] beneath the words as well as hear the surface of the words. [...]

Ruburt has embarked upon his own journeys into the unknown reality. [...] In his own new book (Politics) Ruburt has his personal way of explaining what he is experiencing, and since he shares the same reality with you, then you will be able to relate — perhaps better, even — to his explanations than to mine.

[...] “In ‘Unknown’ Reality the reader should focus upon the material from Seth’s viewpoint,” Jane said. [...] What I’ve said in Psychic Politics should certainly add a lot of insight there.”

To do this, Ruburt had to be free enough to accept the view of reality as perceived by someone else. To accomplish this, Ruburt allowed one portion of his consciousness to remain securely anchored in its own reality while letting another portion soak up, so to speak, a reality not its own.

[...] This section [of “Unknown” Reality] deals with the various exercises that will, I hope, provide you with your own intimate glimpses into previously unknown realities.

In some of their own private dreams, many of my readers will have discovered a reality quite as vivid as the normal one, and sometimes more so. [...] In systems different from your own, there are realities in which physical organisms are activated after what would seem to you to be centuries of inactivity¹² — again, when the conditions are right. [...]

The unknown reality: Much of that reality is unknown simply because your beliefs close you off from your own knowledge. [...] Because you accept the idea of a straight-line movement of time, you cannot see before or after what you think of as your birth or death,* yet your greater consciousness is quite aware of such experience. [...]

[...] At 8:55, moving closer to that familiar dissociated state, approaching that psychological bridge which serves as a common meeting ground for Seth and herself she announced that she felt “a rather generalized idea of what Seth will say on the book stuff.” Less clear were some data about herself but she thought Seth would cover all of that along with his material on “Unknown” Reality. [...]

Now the physical organism as such is capable of that kind of reality system. [...] In the physical state, in what you would call the waking state, these individuals slept. [...]

I am what I am, interpreted through your reality. [...] Yet I come to your reality by a strange route — one that does not involve roads or highways but psychological dramas that wind backward like paths into the “psychological history” of your species. To some extent, I am like a particularly vivid, persistent, recurring dream image, visiting the mass psyche, only with a reality that is not confined to dreams — a dream image that attains a psychological fullness that can seem to make ordinary consciousness a weak apparition by contrast, psychologically speaking.

We have been speaking of dream events and waking reality, the nature of creativity and the formation of events. We have also touched upon psychological entities of vast proportions, in your terms, that form psychological structures from which your own reality emerges. In that connection, the nature of my reality becomes pertinent.

You may say if you wish that I am a dream image lacking even an image — but if so, then each individual whose life is changed by my words must question: “What is a dream?” In the same way that my personality exists without physical manifestation, so does your own. [...] The difference is that you are not consciously aware of what you are doing, but I am. [...]

Your kind of psychological reality is therefore implied in my own, and mine in yours, even as your kind of reality is implied in that of Willy Two (our kitten) — and his in yours.

[...] In reality you project your own energy out to form the physical world. [...] You must change what you project.

[...] Nowhere in my first book did I say that I thought Seth was exactly what he said he was: “an energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality.” [...]

“You are what you are, and you will be more. [...] What I am is also what you are: individualized consciousness.

[...] I borrow Ruburt’s [Seth’s name for me; in addition, Seth always speaks of me as male] with his consent, but what I am is not dependent upon atoms and molecules and what you are is not dependent upon physical matter. [...]
