“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(This was our first session since returning from vacation in York Beach, Maine. Both of us had heavy colds when we got home on Sunday, August 23.

(It will be recalled also that in the 63rd session, Seth gave a date of Aug. 12-15 for Miss Callahan, our neighbor in the front apartment. Miss Callahan and her illness, and her connection with Frank Watts, who purportedly was the first psychic contact Jane actually achieved, have been dealt with at length in various sessions. Seth did not specify the meaning of this latest date for her, and Jane and I saw Miss Callahan the day after our return from vacation, looking quite well. We had left Elmira on the morning of the 15th.

(I would like to mention here another rather halfhearted experiment I tried while on vacation. Driving up to Maine, I noted that our car, which is an old one, was using quite a bit of oil. I did not keep an exact record because I did not have the experiment in mind at the beginning of the trip. However, by the time we left York Beach, I had tried to suggest to my subconscious, in line with the material we have obtained to date on the value of expectation, that the car would consume less oil than on the outward journey. Again without keeping an exact count, I arrived home with the definite feeling that the car used at least two quarts less oil. Twice, stopping at stations along the way, I was somewhat surprised to be told by attendants that no oil was needed, or that it was down so little that there was no point in adding more. I did not tell Jane of my little effort until we were home. Again, if tonight’s session developed, I thought I would ask Seth whether I was correct, or merely the victim of some overoptimistic wishes.

The vacation falling between and breaking up, you see, the nursery school pattern and the remainder of the summer, will be most beneficial. Much better than a later vacation—more useful.

[...] The change of schedule is a good idea this week, because it will get Ruburt used to the idea of using freedom again, before your vacation starts, and will therefore offset possible symptoms. [...]

The breaking up of patterns is also beneficial, and is of course one of the reasons I suggest your vacation.

You will both benefit from your vacation. [...]

[...] Sensuous pleasure will do you both much good during your vacation, a sensuous and psychic immersion into the patterns of nature will refresh you both.

[...] Nevertheless, because of your particular constitutions, small vacations should definitely become a part of your yearly existence; and when you expect them, the means for them will come. [...]

(We were on vacation at Enfield Glen from July 19 to 28, and no sessions were held.

[...] He correctly but imperfectly recalled a dream during your vacation, in which I was helping him with his health problems.

The following morning his condition was worse than it was during your entire vacation. [...]

[...] That Rob was having a “body vacation” or that his body was taking a vacation, a rest; and that the contrast between his floppy state and his usual one would let him know how tight he’d been.... Something about us not taking vacations….and even not wanting to rest between mental creative projects; that Rob had his stomach troubles when he needed a rest....a vacation of some sort could have prevented that....but since we prefer to do things differently, we should frequently arrange changes in our lives....that we control....changes in the house, routine, hours....or even a week off to do the house or yard or whatever.... [...]

(We should consider such changes as a part of our working life, to provide refreshment; otherwise we just stew because we’re not “creative or working” or whatever....even furniture rearranging or changing whole rooms to different functions can be considered a vacation of a sort, and while I’ve always felt guilty at involving Rob in changing furniture—but do, anyhow. [...]

(The idea being since we refuse to take vacations like other people [really before I was physically bothered] we have to have our own equivalent which can be any of the above mentioned at different times. [...]

[...] For your vacation there should be a balance of rest and activity, dancing for example, and an interchange with others.

A truly enjoyable vacation is indeed the best medicine now for reasons given. [...]

I am insistent that Ruburt have a vacation, at least to some degree, and will not go deeply into these matters until our next session. [...]

Because his conscious desire was based strongly upon inner emotional need, and not opposed to it, and because the emotional need at that time was powerful, that is his need to leave on vacation, and because he remembered our discussion on expectation, he was able to utilize both conscious and unconscious energies. [...]

[...] We were due to leave on vacation Saturday morning. [...]

You can direct his anticipation for example of vacation along positive lines. [...]

To what extent you can afford it, eat out fairly often on your vacation. [...]

[...] I was remembering a lot of other such statements by Seth about vacations, etc., none of which accomplished anything that I could remember. I was remembering now what Seth had said earlier in the session about Jane’s attitude toward vacations, chores, etc., being a waste of time since these things took her away from her work.)

[...] Under the circumstances the vacation idea, with or without variations, is a good one, during which focus upon the physical aspects of life should be emphasized and encouraged. [...]

For your vacation, choose definitely a place with water, a large body, for it is healing. [...]

He will most likely still need help in embarking on your vacation, although his progress is improving. [...]

[...] The vacation will break up any lingering patterns of habit, and serve to disconnect him from negative elements of the past. [...]

Now my friend Ruburt has been taking a well-earned vacation, but I never take vacations. [...]

We will indeed give you a rather brief vacation this evening.

[...] He would not be making money for both of you that would enable you to paint, etc., but losing it, if he allowed himself the freedom to run all over the place, take vacations, etc. [...]

Rob and I are on vacation, perhaps only for a weekend, in a collegelike atmosphere, a town, with water nearby. [...]

[...] This fear subconsciously nagged at you, and it has for this reason, among other, that the symptoms were with you before vacation. This year you felt the vacation almost as a threat because of the fears that had built up during the year. [...]

You were particularly frightened during vacation because of the inactivity. [...]

This also applies symbolically, and during your vacation, and before it, was one fear that you had not come to terms with. [...]

3. Here Seth quotes himself exactly from an unscheduled session held on February 26, 1972, during our vacation in Marathon, Florida.

[...] Bill and Peggy will be leaving next week for a vacation in Puerto Rico, and the four of us have already made plans to try some telepathic/clairvoyant communications. [...]

[...] I believe a rather bizarre event will occur, regarding the Gallaghers, at approximately five o’clock during their vacation.

(As stated before, the Gallaghers leave for a vacation in Puerto Rico next week; the four of us have planned some clairvoyant tests. [...]

[...] She had no urge to speak for Seth during vacation.

After your long vacation, you should be quite ready to plunge into our activities anew. [...]

The vacation has done you both good however, and your energies have indeed replenished themselves. [...]
