When consciousness is being specified, it always sees itself at the center of its world. All specifications of consciousness and all phenomenal appearances occur when the basic units of consciousness, the CU’s, emerge into EE units, and hence into the dimensions of actuality in your terms. Your mainly accepted normal consciousness is within the matter of your body, and through it — the body — you view your world. There is nothing to prevent you from viewing your body from a standpoint outside of it, except that you have been taught that consciousness is imprisoned within the flesh.
[...] Wait — just now as I wrote this I picked up something [from a part of my consciousness other than Ruburt or Seth], to the effect that the projection environment is as focused as mine is, really, but that it’s a probability of mine. Biologically I wasn’t keyed into it in my ‘now’, I was in it and not in it, between focused realities … traveling in or through these fluctuations of consciousness Seth talked about in the last session. He mentioned probable kinds of consciousness in that session, too. [...]
While inhabited by the usual human consciousness, the living body operates as an intense focus point. The conglomeration of consciousnesses within it on all levels focuses its own network of communication. [...] Not only can all cells respond to each other, but their mass activity triggers even higher centers of consciousness to respond to a given set of world conditions, rather than to other quite-as-legitimate world conditions that do not fit the accepted pattern. [...]
The consciousnesses of the cells within it, however, are eternal. [...] The main identity continues to exist, even as the consciousnesses of millions of cells still exist that at one time were part of the body.
[...] In Chapter One of The Seth Material, she describes her first “trip” through an altered state of consciousness — and how it resulted in the production of her manuscript, The Physical Universe as Idea Construction. [...]
[...] Among other material covering altered states of consciousness on Jane’s part, refer to her Introduction, as well as the notes for the 639th session in Chapter Ten, and the 645th session in Chapter Eleven. [...] She plans to study all of her experiences with various stages of consciousness in her book, Aspect Psychology.
[...] It also implies, and of course, promotes, the direction of individual consciousness in an exterior fashion only. Not only is consciousness to be focused to the external reality, but within those limits it is still further harnessed toward certain specific goals. [...]
(Jane described her altered state of consciousness to me while it was in progress on Monday, of course, then the next morning she wrote as complete an account of it as she could. [...]
This sense, however, is concerned with the innate knowledge of the universe in its entirety; and particular data about specific areas of the universe often is given to a living organism to make manipulation in a specific area possible.
Also, Ruburt’s conscious mind is quite merry over your portrait award, and if you both are merry then I will join in the general enthusiasm.
[...] It is of course an enlargement or extension of the self, and a widening of the boundaries of the self, and therefore of even conscious comprehension.
You are afraid, and he is, unconsciously, that you will fall off the edges of the known universe, that the conscious mind won’t function out of the body, and that only chaos will meet you, and this is not the case. There are some differences here between what you consciously tell yourself and what you unconsciously are afraid of and what you unconsciously believe. [...]
(To Mark.) Now over here our friend, you are trying too hard and too consciously. [...]
[...] And with each portion of your thought and desire you can leave it as freely as a vagabond who can then find peace and joy and contentment in any corner of the universe and reform your body as well with joy and exaltation, and not fear it will disintegrate or disappear while you are gone. [...]
Now before I bid you a fond good evening let me tell you that those of you who come to class regularly and gravitate here, if you have not already discovered this for yourself, are the black sheep of the universe. [...]
[...] The mental enzymes act upon the vitality, which is, as I told you, the structure of the universe itself. [...] The mental enzymes are the tools, and the vitality is the actual material that forms the universe as a whole, the apparent divisions within it, the apparent boundaries between the systems and the diverse materials within each division. [...]
Introduction to the Interior
Universe
This is the first of several key sessions included in this portion of the book as introductions to the interior universe. [...]
Consciously, you didn’t know what you were up to; unconsciously, you knew very well. [...]
[...] When she lay down for a nap yesterday afternoon she picked up from Seth hints of subjects he’s going to discuss in Dreams: “man migrations,” and “inside and outside cues” as pertaining to man’s consciousness. [...]
[...] It became his version of the soul, and there seemed to be a duality—a self who acted in the physical universe, and a separate spiritlike soul that acted in an immaterial world.
(Pause at 9:31.) All units of consciousness, whatever their degree, possess purpose and intent. [...]
[...] There is a great elasticity for action and mobility, so that, for example, in man his conscious experience can actually be put together in an almost limitless number of ways.
[...] But as the word evolution is the title for a fine tale with a little truth in it, and much distortion, so also, must the realities of consciousness sometimes be explained in terms that you can understand and in terms of your own time concepts. [...] It seems very difficult for you to understand the fact that you live many realities at one time, simultaneously, and since the time scheme seems to be such a reality to you, the multidimensional aspects of your own consciousness are explained in those terms. [...]
This consciousness of organs, atoms and molecules, cells and other components, is left undiminished with whatever degree of consciousness and vitality they originally possessed, not enough of course to hold form or organization to any degree. [...]
A fifth-dimensional universe does not have to possess all the attributes of the previous four, for example. Once you progress beyond a fourth-dimensional universe, then freedoms are attained which will make the attributes of previous dimensions unnecessary.
[...] This was delivered April 6. The 44th session includes much on the basic laws of the inner universe also, as do the other sessions received during this period. [...]
[...] The personality, through the inner self, has indeed created or constructed the physical form, but the very material from which it was constructed also contains its peculiar consciousness, as you know.
Since consciousness forms matter, and not the other way around, then thought exists before the brain and after it. A child can think coherently before he learns vocabulary — but he cannot impress the physical universe in its terms. [...] They knew (pause) that the seemingly solid natural objects about them were composed of many minute consciousnesses.
[...] Quite without realizing it, your ego is a result of group consciousness, for example; the one consciousness that most directly faces the exterior world, is dependent upon the minute consciousness that resides within each living cell of your body; and as a rule you are only aware of one ego — at least at a time.
(9:35.) Because of the energy he is given by others, he will have a certain consciousness of his own, but such a mock devil has no power or reality to those who do not believe in his existence, and who do not give him energy through their belief. [...]
Now those who have such beliefs actually lack a necessary deep trust in the nature of consciousness, of the soul, and of All That Is. [...]
[...] In the terms used by science, there was no evolution in linear terms, but vast (long pause) explosions of consciousness, expansions of capacities, unfoldings on the parts of all species, and these still continue. They are the inner manipulations with which consciousness presents itself.
[...] And then you can travel through these other doors, but you must be able to stand on your two feet in this universe.... And then you will go consciously where your body cannot follow... [...]
[...] And then you can travel through these other doors, but you must be able to stand on your two feet in this universe—and then you will go consciously where your body cannot follow and you will find your answers. [...]
[...] Through your physical image the energy of the universe expresses itself. You as an individualized consciousness are a part of this, and you cannot express yourself fully nor fulfill your purpose as an identity, as an individual, if you are not in good health—for the effects of the body are felt in the mind...and the effects of the mind are felt in the body. [...]
[...] What seems subconscious in one instant may be conscious the next. An unconscious motive may also be conscious at one point. [...]
[...] But basically speaking, consciousness can never be a closed system, and all barriers of such a nature are illusion. [...]
[...] You see it is not a simple matter of giving you a definition of a soul or entity, for even to have a glimpse in logical terms you would have to understand it in spiritual, psychic, and electromagnetic terms, and understand the basic nature of consciousness and action as well. [...]
[...] Imagine the rays undiminished, reaching then through the foliage and clouds above, through the center of the earth below, extending even to the farthest reaches of the universe.
It is only because you are so hypnotized with ideas of beginning and endings that you persist in searching for them in the universe, and you distort data that would otherwise be clear to you. I have told you that the universe expands in a way that has nothing to do with space. But when you try to relate this idea to the universe as you know it, you find yourself up against a brick wall, for what you seem to see out in the universe is indeed space.
[...] He can indeed do much damage, but only to his own camouflage universe. This physical universe is however quite important to him, after all, but he is well isolated within it.
[...] They are not on the far limits of your universe. They are projections from another system into your universe. [...]
[...] Each personality to itself has continuous consciousness. Its consciousness is continuous and it knows who it is and it experiences no lapses. [...]
Each consciousness has its own responsibility for those thoughts and emotions and it accepts and originates. [...]
[...] Now it is also true that for each moment that you exist, in this universe, you do not exist in it. [...]
([Nadine:] “Is it possible to experience some of these personalities while you are conscious of the personality you have at the moment?”)
“As I came out of the experience a few moments later I resolved to paint a small oil of it, as I’ve done following my three previous perceptions of the light of the universe this year — on February 9 and 10, and on June 16. And it’s obvious that in tonight’s little adventure I had once again cleverly protected myself from confronting the full creative blast of the light of the universe by allowing myself just a peek at it, and a careful one at that, at the top of a door. Seth has told me that as a physical creature I’d be overwhelmed if ever I came even close to facing that awesome conscious and creative power.”
[...] As a corporate entity, it also has a conscious and unconscious intent, as do all organizations, because they must mirror the people who belong to them. [...]
[...] Then I became aware that once again I was perceiving “the light of the universe,” as Seth calls it. [...]
It was impossible for me to even approach with mundane physical paint the pulsating brilliance of that tiny bit of the “light of the universe” that I allowed myself to experience at the top of the nearly-closed door.
This human self-consciousness existed in psychological time and in inner time long before you as a species constructed it in terms of your particular camouflage patterns. For your friend’s sake I will simplify this, saying that human consciousness was inherent and latent from the beginning of your physical universe.
The beginnings of human consciousness, on the other hand, began as soon as multicellular groupings began to form in field patterns of a certain complexity. While there was no specific point of entry as far as human consciousness was concerned, there was a point before which human consciousness as such did not exist. Self-consciousness did exist. The consciousness of being human in your terms was fully developed in the caveman, but—and I cannot emphasize this enough—the human conception was alive in the fish.
You know now that so-called inert form has consciousness. To some degree it even possesses self-consciousness, and so there is no point at which self-consciousness entered, so to speak, with the sound of trumpets. Consciousness, to a degree, was inherent in the first materialization physically upon your plane.
You are either conscious of self or you are not. On your plane self-consciousness exists as a rule. A tree is conscious of itself as a tree. [...] What I am trying to point out to you here is this supreme egotistical presumption that self-consciousness must of necessity involve humanity per se. [...]
This Introduction represents my only conscious contribution to this entire book, for example. But certainly as Seth often states, even the unconscious portions of our personalities are actually conscious. [...] Not that Seth is just another focus of mine, for it’s quite legitimate to say that I’m a focus of his consciousness in that same context; but that Seth represents that larger portion of the psyche from which our own kind of consciousness emerges. The point of all of this is the exploration of human consciousness, its ranges and scopes. [...]
But however we attempt to define Seth’s reality, I’m convinced of one thing by now: He is delivering to our conscious minds our deepest unconscious knowledge about ourselves, the world, the universe, and the source of Being Itself. [...]
[...] It represents a turning away of consciousness from ordinary reality toward an inner one. [...]
[...] Seth was discussing the Three Mile Island accident, but he left off book dictation for a while because we felt so badly, and gave us some excellent material on animal consciousness before and after death — because “tragedies” come in all shapes and sizes, and the most domestic events of our days offer Seth opportunities to comment on life itself.
Inherent, and I repeat inherent in the spider as in man, is the complete comprehension, or rather comprehension through direct experience, of the universe as a whole. [...] There is of course no “I” consciousness, but there is direct consciousness, nevertheless, of the most intimate kind.
[...] In your camouflage universe you are severely hampered as far as space travel is concerned, by the time elements involved in the camouflage universe itself. [...]
The tissue capsule of which I have spoken earlier surrounds every living consciousness. [...]
[...] No living consciousness exists on any plane without this tissue capsule enclosing it.
