The kitten merely represented wish fulfillment, in that Ruburt does plan to get a kitten as soon as he is home. In the experience the kitten was in the hospital room, and there seemed to be adjoining rooms, as at 458 (the address of the apartment house we’d lived in on W. Water Street). This signified that Ruburt was building up similarities between present and past experience, so that the kitten, appearing in the dream’s present and past also, would indeed appear in the future.

In Ruburt’s recent experience, he found himself inside the chassis of a recording device — signifying that instead of playing a cassette at several different speeds, he was instead, so to speak, playing his own consciousness at different speeds.

I am also accelerating those coordinates that are involved with Ruburt’s healing, thus quickening those vital healing processes.

Look at Ruburt’s Turkish dream. [...] Ruburt’s dream had motion also, rolling, say, off the edge of Framework 2 into Framework 1, where lo and behold it changes its form and becomes a book.

Now: in Ruburt’s story of Emir, he presents a theoretical new earth, yet in the truest meaning of that term, earth is ever-new, for fresh energy comes into the exterior world from an interior source.

Now: in somewhat the same way, Ruburt’s more or less newly optimistic thoughts are inserted, say, in the opposite direction, into Framework 2, where then they find their best creative form: in this case they roll into Framework 1 as increased mobility.

[...] All of Ruburt’s improvements, however, spring directly from the fact that he is freeing his desire to walk, stating it in Framework 2, where it is being brought to pass.

[...] If your mother thinks Ruburt is more successful than you, then obviously she can see that Ruburt is paying for it. [...] Much of this stems from the young psychologist’s remark, as interpreted by Ruburt, that he was using psychic phenomena to dominate you.
