Now for the unfortunate results I mentioned near the beginning of this note: Of the two cassette tape recorders that had been operated by class members last night, one malfunctioned throughout the evening, unknown to its owner, and so recorded no class material at all. The other recorder’s tape snapped just before Jane finally succeeded in consistently uniting Seth’s slow, or long, reality with the accelerated version we ordinarily hear. For a few minutes, then, she was able to speak for Seth about his home environment — but since the information wasn’t recorded I have nothing to quote here. [...]

[...] I seldom take notes in class or use a tape recorder, preferring to be free to engage in the class’s spontaneous development. [...]

[...] I made a verbatim record of her first encounter with slow, or long, sound in the 612th session for September 6, 1972, just about a year after she’d finished Seth Speaks. Since the material in that session wasn’t covered in Personal Reality or Adventures, we’re publishing most of it as an appendix for this volume.* Not only will it illuminate these notes; it will also link, if loosely, Seth’s reality, Seth Two, and some other “rapid” effects. [...] As you know, the running records have been broken in late years time and time again. The crowds acclaim the sense of competition, the excitement, the rewards, and the belief in performance have all been responsible for the breaking of previous records. [...]

(A note: I thought it would be of interest to show, by periodically recording the time, how long Seth takes to deliver a certain amount of finished material for his book.)

(Tonight’s session was recorded. Just as she went into trance, Jane leaned forward to switch on the recorder, and had a little difficulty.)

Now when he is writing he is often in Framework 2. He did not concentrate upon the record, and that method worked most effectively. [...]

Having this set published for the record is something I’ve long wanted to see take place, and Rick’s dedicated interest and time make it possible. [...]

[...] Let alone the bulk of Jane’s other work: her poetry, novels both published and unpublished, her other published books, an unfinished autobiography, the records of her ESP class sessions, her journals and paintings, her singing in musical trance language, Sumari, her never-ending correspondence. You will also discover, as I have mentioned, that the various levels of the subconscious will yield their own characteristic data, and as your records grow this will become apparent to you. It is obviously necessary then that your suggestion is given precisely as I gave it to you, for we want the dreams recorded in consecutive order whenever possible.

I am particularly interested myself in these projected experiments, and as a preliminary for them we shall have you work with suggestion alone before you attempt to begin with your recordings.

I want you to ask questions along these lines, and attempt to answer them through your records and experience.
