And yet a portion of you knows the answer, and a portion of you knows who you are, and the memories of your previous lives are not in your genes or in your chromosomes, but in the psychic reality that forms the genes and the chromosomes. [...] The physical mechanism has chromosomes indeed, but the physical chromosomes have a psychic counterpart, and the psychic counterpart is the original; and within you is the codified information containing all your past lives and all your knowledge, and it is hidden so deep within you that the subconscious as you know it does not realize the truth, for the subconscious as you know it is, indeed, a very shallow affair containing only those hidden memories from this life.

Yet these people were coming to Ruburt because of his psychic work, and his psychically inspired writing. [...]

[...] Yet he found that these people wanted his psychic work most of all. [...]

[...] He was quite correct, for those impulses arise from the larger self’s immersion in Framework 2, and those impulses led Ruburt to his intuitive inspirations, experiences of psychic events, and to the books. When he becomes overly concerned about writing as work, or with psychic development as something he should do, then he tangles those impulses, and becomes worried that he will not be suitably inspired again.

[...] The psychic experiences, intuitional developments, and dream activity—these refresh him and lead precisely to the kind of inspiration he wants. [...]

[...] The last session should be read again, for it can reawaken both of your psychic abilities to a greater degree. [...]

[...] Jane discussed my previous “visits” to the first century in Chapter 4 of her Psychic Politics, but [I can add later] she never did deal with this one. [...]

[...] I trust the thrilling sensations, since over the years I’ve learned that they signify something psychically legitimate for me⁵; their onset now at least reinforced my suspicion that the tumbling figure was me. [...]

You have heard terms like “The Brotherhood of Man,” or, as Ruburt might say, “The Brother-Womanhood of Women” (humorously). But at any given time, in your terms — at any given time — the population of the earth is made up of counterparts … and so when you kill an enemy, you are killing a version of yourself … For as you are members of a physical species, you are also members of a psychic kind of counterpart reality; and this membership straddles races or countries, or states or politics.

(In the 724th session the following night, Seth remarked upon such circumstances, saying that while Peter and I weren’t counterparts, we’re “closely enough allied so that in certain terms you ‘share’ some of the same psychic memories, like cousins who speak about old dimly remembered brothers.”¹³

(So Jane experienced a modest series of unusual psychic events before the sessions themselves began; some details on these have been given in earlier notes. [...] It didn’t occur to us to label any of those events as “psychic” until the event of Idea Construction. [...]

(Jane finds her “massive feelings,” as she calls them, not only instructive psychically, but exhilarating indeed when they encompass revelatory or transcendent states of consciousness. [...]

[...] His psychic recognition or initiation represented a remarkable breakthrough, meant to give him that additional psychic room that would insure the continued expansion of the abilities of the natural self. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s creativity broke through those frameworks to provide our sessions and to release the psychic abilities that had earlier been nearly but not completely repressed. [...]

(Long pause.) Ruburt broke through both psychically and creatively—that is, the sessions almost immediately provided him with new creative inspiration and expression and with the expansions needed psychologically that would help fulfill his promise as a writer and as a mature personality. [...]

(10:08.) The psychic abilities and the creative abilities—nearly impossible to separate—themselves provide all of the help that he requires, but the concept of the Sinful Self prevented him from using those abilities sufficiently—for how can the expressions of the Sinful Self be trusted? [...]

[...] The Seth material is supposed to put us in a different psychic position where the problems are solved automatically or are at least diminished or do not apply.... [...]

[...] I’ve hampered my own psychic development and possible new books by such focuses which generate their own paranoiac-like fears. [...]

[...] The music, the chants, are richly endowed with what you might call for now racial memory, striking psychic as well as biological chords, and thereby releasing certain inner mechanisms and memories.

(Pause at 9:34.) The actions that arise out of the chanting—as the circle arrangement of students—these are all deeply buried psychically and psychologically pertinent actions that have been a part of your race from its earliest times. [...]

[...] I add again that your relationship to each other itself is meant to reach certain levels, and when it does it triggers the psychic developments that both of you planned well ahead of time would occur. [...]

[...] It is your private inner environment, psychically speaking. Your psychological intents instantly mobilize your energies on a psychic level. [...]

[...] And whatever your purpose is, the same procedure on a psychic level is involved.

Now: in basic terms you form your reality, privately and en masse—through your beliefs, of course, and those beliefs cause you to organize your psychic world in certain fashions.

[...] To some extent through the books you are helping people alter their psychic organizations, to look at the world in a different fashion, and therefore to view a different world—a world in which their experiences are different than they would have been otherwise.

[...] It certainly does not include a frightening psychic world, actually or otherwise. [...]

[...] Your suggestions to Ruburt along psychic lines were excellent—that he do more energy experiments. [...]

[...] And when you come to class from now on I will expect to find you all here, not just the physical self, not just the intellectual self, not just the portions of yourself that you term, psychically inclined, but the emotional self. [...]

[...] And why should you try to be psychically educated while closing yourself off emotionally from the others who come to class for you all have put up barriers between yourselves. [...]

[...] You cannot project psychic reality elsewhere. [...]

([Gert:] “How does the sex drive relate to psychic development? [...]

[...] The creative explosions begun with these books still erupt, for “Unknown” Reality does seem to have a life of its own, one that defies definition, and that even now serves as a springboard for new psychic and creative experience. [...]

[...] Jane finished her Psychic Politics, and began some new poetry and world-view material. [...]

Also, Jane has long since completed The World View of Paul Cezanne: A Psychic Interpretation, which was published in 1977; and she’s finished The Afterdeath Journal of an American Philosopher: The World View of William James — both books growing out of the world-view material given by Seth in “Unknown” Reality.

And again, at latest count Jane has written three books (including Psychic Politics) since Seth began “Unknown” Reality — and worked on several others — so what is the relationship between the human psyche and such “other” sources of creativity and knowledge?

As Jane wrote in Chapter 1 of The World View of Paul Cézanne: A Psychic Interpretation (1977): “Seth maintains that each of us forms a psychic world view, composed of our own ideas, feelings, and beliefs, as we encounter our private corner of reality.” [...] So can the psychic patterns of those now living, and even of those not yet born. [...]

[...] See the essay for April 16: “The entire issue (of Jane’s living) had been going on for some time, and the argument—the argument being somewhat in the nature of a soul facing its own legislature, or perhaps standing as a jury before itself, setting its own case in a kind of private yet public psychic trial. [...] With Ruburt they carried a psychic and physical logic and economy….”

At my age (63), then, I’m learning once again that I can’t live Jane’s life for her, or protect her from the motivations of her own physical and psychic explorations and choices, no matter how much I may want to. [...] On many levels that kind of psychic interference is quite simply ignored by the individual in question, and rightly so. [...]

[...] I think that Jane herself can deal with many such questions; possibly tuning into them on her own, should she decide to, or through the mediation of her “psychic library.” [...]

This smallest psychological unit represents the minimum individual psychic component, the most basic personality building block, from which other more complicated psychic structures are formed.

[...] This does not apply only to the reality of human personality, but to that basic inner and smallest unit, individual prime consciousness that is at the core of any psychic gestalt. [...]

[...] It is composed of individualized psychic energy, capable of amassing about itself only a minimum of physical materialization; and yet it is extremely necessary, for it is a first stepping stone of psychological energy into the physical field.

Now I tried, ineffectively I might add, in the sessions to raise your expectations of the property for the same price, by justifiably showing you, I thought, how value fulfillment psychically could definitely add to the construction.

This artistic sense of responsibility was given a thicker coat by what seemed to be psychic responsibility: it seemed to Ruburt that he should use his abilities primarily to help others, or to help solve the world’s problems, or to cast some light into man’s condition. [...] Actually, however, it was the simple extension of such a feeling into the psychic realm, where it was further hardened by many religious views. [...]

If creativity itself was sometimes considered irresponsible, or “feminine,” or adolescent, then psychic activity, he discovered, seemed to be held in an even murkier light, in which the abilities themselves were sometimes thought of not as creative enhancements but as symptoms of feminine weakness and irresponsibility. [...]

[...] High play of that nature opens doors of excellence that responsibility alone can never touch, and results in far more valuable help to the world as a natural by-product than any self-determined behavior can, so these are the ideas that we want to stress, both in bodily terms and in psychic and creative ones, and Ruburt is beginning to understand some of that now. [...]

(A thought: I now realize that Jane put the same interpretation on her own work—namely, the psychic work. It took me years to learn that she regarded her work in the psychic field—and the time and energy involved—as aside from her main creative goal, which is to write “straight” literature that is also art.)

[...] I didn’t realize last year of course that she was so dissatisfied with the psychic image and the books; I blithely assumed that she felt she was doing good work, and that she accepted it, which doesn’t mean that I had any thoughts of ever saying she shouldn’t do any other kind of writing, ever. [...]

[...] I had become afraid a contract would reinforce the emphasis on psychic work that she wants to get out from under. [...]

As Ruburt mentioned in Psychic Politics, there are many gradations of consciousness, and as I mentioned in The Nature of the Psyche, early man used his consciousness in other ways than those you are familiar with. [...]

[...] You grant that the weather has an effect upon your moods, but any deeper psychic or psychological connections between you and the elements strikes most of you as quite impossible.

[...] Through nature’s manifestations, particularly through its power, man senses nature’s source and his own, and knows that the power can carry him to emotional realizations that are required for his own greater spiritual and psychic development.
