[...] Cancer, for example, has become the symbol for the body’s vulnerability, in current years — the proof of man’s susceptibility to the body. [...]

If earlier, however, Ruburt had the erroneous idea that he was going too fast—or would or could—and had to restrain himself and exert caution, now he received the medical prognosis, the “physical proof” that such was not the case, and in fact that the opposite was true: He was too slow. [...]

And as for books, early in August I returned to our publisher, Prentice-Hall, the page proofs Jane had corrected for her book of poetry: If We Live Again: Or, Public Magic and Private Love. Ordinarily that event would have delighted us, since it meant that before the year was out she’d have another work published. [...]

(This afternoon I mailed to Prentice-Hall the corrected page proofs for The God of Jane.

This is another classic example of an event that science would label simply “coincidental” without being able to give any objective proof to back up its contention.

(Yesterday Jane received from her publisher the galley proofs for her book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time.¹ The story of that work’s creation is interwound throughout Personal Reality.

[...] Not only are they not taken advantage of then, but when they do not continue this is taken as proof that they are deceptive.

They will end up providing proofs that your scientists require, but they will serve a purpose closer to my heart, in that they will display the operating procedure of the human personality as it manipulates inner perceptions.
