(10:28.) In terms of Ruburt’s flexibility, I always take your present level of practical comprehension into mind, for I know quite well that your reactions to what I say will vary according to your own situations at any given time.

[...] And, also, you would have compared his present condition unfavorably with the desired end, simply involving yourselves in contradictions.

[...] The event, again, in a way is even separate from Ruburt’s present connection with James, but followed as a result of James’s living curiosity regarding highly gifted mediums that might exist after his death.

[...] Consciousness can be put together in many ways, and you use your own consciousness in ways that presently at least escape you, even though the results may be quite objective. [...]

The idea of—not perfection, now, but excellence—is presented to consciousness in many ways and in many guises, and the ideal of excellence serves as an impetus for consciousness, an excellence of pattern. [...] Members of your species are at various stages, and if you ignore stereotypes, historical connotations, then you can see traces of all of the areas of man’s so-called past development now in the present, and also examples of future development. Before we get down to Ruburt’s particulars, consider the fact that you are presently a part of a species that is specializing in the development of various kinds of consciousness, embarked upon an adventure that sees consciousness not only trying out new directions, from your perspective, but also trying to “perfect” and advance particular attributes.

[...] You therefore place yourselves in a framework of threat in which your abilities must be cautiously presented, and yourselves in an environment against which you must take self-saving methods.

[...] Ruburt was dubious about a session with company present. [...]

I always delight, if you will forgive me, in astounding the present personalities of acquaintances by letting them know that I have known them before. [...]

[...] One which he did not get clearly was that you can take some consolation in the fact that your whole self is not as deeply affected by your present parents as you would suppose, and I promise to help you attain further important freedoms from any bad influences along this line, in a manner that will still allow you to help them without hurting yourself.

During the 836th session, Seth reminded us that “animals do not ‘think’ of long lives or short lives, but of a brilliant present, which in a way, compared to your framework, has no beginning or end … time, in your terms, does not exist for them — and in the deepest of terms, a life’s quality on a human scale cannot be judged primarily in terms of its length, either.”

[...] From Seth she then picked up material to the effect that “time was in the present to the cat … in a way its life was eternal to it, whether it lived 10 months or 10 years, or whatever.” [...]

And in closing: The index for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality will contain (when that book is published) a comprehensive list of references to Seth’s discussions of his units of consciousness, or CU’s, as presented in both volumes of that work.

Now last Sunday evening, as I studied that “old” drawing of myself, I thought once more of my father in his last days — then a whole block of information came to me regarding his present nonphysical circumstances and “plans.” [...] I called it the “Miriam experience,” and Jane presents it in Chapter 12 of Politics.

[...] In the 719th session itself, Seth remarked that the interior view of myself represented “a ‘precognitive’ moment” in my present life that (obviously!) I have yet to encounter.

In class yesterday evening, Seth first came through with some very earthy material that’s presented as Appendix 24. [...]

[...] Our latest attempts to handle the mail are described in the final passages of my Introductory Notes for Volume 1. Seth’s most recent letter to correspondents is presented at the conclusion of those notes.

The will to live can be covered over, buried by fears and doubts, or even distorted out of all recognition, but it is still present. [...]

I may or may not return, again according to those rhythms of which I speak, but know that I am present and approachable. [...]

[...] Naturally we’d been involved in a number of other projects at the same time, as I’ve indicated in my notes for Mass Events, yet for me especially the publication of the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality meant that we had arrived at a certain point in the development and presentation of the Seth material: In those books, through correlating them in a modest way with our previous works, I’d attempted to show the reader just what the three of us had managed to achieve before Seth led us into Psyche — and, as it developed, Mass Events.

[...] She was quite excited by the new ideas she’d presented herself with.

[...] This intensely moving drama, with all its joys and tragedies, can be compared with your present life, your present environment, both individually and en masse.

[...] Tam as editor did not go for his first—or that is, Ruburt’s first presentation, however, but suggested the book that ended up as The Seth Material. [...]

[...] Ruburt signed for the book but had difficulty with his presentation, and it represented his indecisions, so Tam respectfully at first suggested large alterations. [...]

He realized that at another house he might receive more money or more publicity, or possibly another more esthetically-presented package, yet against the other uncertainties and vicissitudes he felt he had an acceptable framework of operation. [...]

He is learning presently, and very well, to control this sometime condition; and it dwindles, to appear only occasionally in times of stress. [...]

It is also the reason for many of his problems in the past, and to a much lesser degree in the present. [...]

Now this development helps me, for I need his development in order that my communications be more clearly presented and received. [...]

[...] I regard it as illuminating and a good example of the way Seth presents such material. [...]

[...] The time that you spend watching such a historic moment takes up an identical amount of time in the present. Therefore one minute of such a past referral costs you one minute of present time. [...] You give up your precious moment in the present but you do not have a complete moment of the past to show for it.

(About the subconscious: According to Freud the subconscious is often held to blame for present ego difficulties. This is not so in many cases—the real trouble being that the present ego did not assimilate the subconscious experience. [...]

[...] Basically however in your case the illness was not serious, and the advantage that you would derive from my help in a healing capacity would have been outweighed entirely by several disadvantages that are almost always present, in the case of healing that does not originate from inner comprehension.
