I’m including in this chapter a few poems as notes of a subjective autobiography, to show what events triggered this first release of unconscious material on my part, opening the doors to the interior universe; for now I believe that certain personal conditions are characteristic prerequisites for such developments, that the channels of intuitive knowledge are opened according to the intensity of individual need. [...] A recognizable verbal pattern must of course result, but use of the language itself will break up these personal associative processes that cling to recognized language symbols.

(In any case, we felt a bit weary this evening, and decided that for a while at least we’d had our fill of personal encounters. [...]

[...] There are different kinds of creativity, then, that must be learned, and a specialization in energy’s focus and feelings that emerges—elemental energy becoming conscious of itself and aware of issues that did not exist for it “earlier;” millions of molecules momentarily united with living consciousness, filled with primal energy, now learning love and forming highly sensitive psychic patterns; electrical charges that now form emotions instead of clouds; the innocent chaos of undifferentiated personality that exists behind the highly specified and truly sophisticated mechanism of one thought. [...] You cannot confine a personality that you “were” to a particular century that is finished and deny it other fulfillments, for even now it exists and has fresh experience. [...]

I show to you those facets of my personality with which you can attune yourselves most readily. [...]

Now with the various people at Prentice, you will have such tendencies often appearing separately, so that one person will be highly conventional and dislike changes, while another might be responsive to work that was emotionally exciting, avant garde. [...]
