(The day after this session, Jane received a letter from her editor at Prentice-Hall, Tam Mossman, asking if she had received her contracts through the mail; there has been a worrisome delay, due at least in part to the recent postal strike.)

[...] Well, I am here, indeed I am here, and if you want to think of me as some UFO (earlier talking about someone mailing a card to Robbie, Jane and Seth, what or how would they address it), that is your privilege. [...]

Your conversations, your drives, your mail, the television programs you watch—all of these are involved—involved in that you will be led to watch programs, for example, that in one way or another help the entire picture. [...]

[...] She slept late, spent time at her table in the living room, read the mail—which contained some excellent pieces, by the way —but as far as I know did no notes or other writing.

(The page proofs for Jane’s The World View of Paul Cézanne arrived in the mail from her publisher this morning, and she’s been busy correcting them most of the day since — checking the type for errors in spelling, punctuation, omission, and so forth.)

[...] There may be mail from Wisconsin that will have a bearing on some future plans. [...]

[...] We had mailed it to him on July 23rd, Friday, taking it for granted he would want to keep it for a while. [...]

(In the mail today Jane received a book I’d sent for at her request a few days ago; then we’d both forgotten about it. [...]

[...] Jane at various times has taken care of her mail when she traveled, and at Christmas time we exchanged small presents.

[...] Miss C then asked Jane if she would bring in the mail, etc., while she was in the hospital.

[...] I discussed these notes with Jane when I wrote them—Thursday, July 30—and our individual attitudes toward the mail in general, which is steadily increasing in volume. [...]

(Then in today’s mail Jane received a letter from another doctor, as well as from a professor of mathematics – also signs that the Seth material was capable of wider appeal. [...]

[...] There were many legal matters to attend to, much mail to answer, and more to keep up with.

[...] (Eventually mail began to arrive addressed to us simply at “The Hill House, Elmira, N.Y.” [...]

[...] I’ve already referred to Laurel Lee Davies, the young lady who now works with me (and is helping especially with proofreading and answering mail). [...]

Over the weekend we’d signed the contracts with our publisher, Prentice-Hall, for Mass Events and God of Jane, and I mailed them this morning. [...]
