(This was to the effect that Jane’s dream, back in July of 1963, had been correct, but that Jane had been too eager to put a less serious implication upon it. [...]

1. When I wrote these notes on July 17, I hardly expected that several weeks later Seth would so effectively “put them in their place,” so to speak, as he enlarged upon his discussion of the magical approach:

[...] We were both caught up in the same events as most other people were during that June and July — the hotter-than-usual nights and days, the drought in parts of New York State that touched our area lightly, the TV news drama as the political parties argued and planned for their conventions. (While Jane and I were on vacation in Florida in July, I rather severely sunburned my feet; I had trouble walking for several days, but was able to drive home on schedule. [...]
