Think of him as being simply “out of condition,” for that is indeed true. [...]

It leads to Ruburt feeling physically that relaxation means letting go into laxness; as I told him in the past, however, letting go means motion and the ability to respond. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s personal feeling is important as far as any witnesses are concerned, and while I did suggest a witness to him tonight the choice of the witness was his. Your choice, Joseph, is of course important here, but someone antagonistic to Ruburt might bother him, which is why I left the choice to him.

[...] We thought it too late to explain much to him by then, but by 8:35 the feeling was so strong that Jane knocked on Leonard’s door.

(Seth’s greeting surprised us both; I interrupted him, and Jane stopped pacing for a moment.)

[...] My good afternoon instantly confused him since he was well aware of the time. [...]

If he only sees your physical body then he should address you, announce his own out-of-body state and invite you to join him. If you are still in your body and if conditions are good, you will then leave your body and join him. [...]

[...] Ruburt should try on these nights one of his methods as he falls asleep, and if that does not succeed, tell him to use the other methods that he knows from the dream state.

(12:02 AM.) A few notes for him (Ruburt) then.... [...]

[...] Joe had lain in bed in the trailer, and Margaret had resisted sending him to a hospital. [...] I told him to have Margaret call me when I can visit them.

Some improvements, again, have begun, barely noticed: the additional mobility in the morning, when a short while ago Ruburt would sit for an hour or more after breakfast while you brought him his second cup of coffee. [...]

[...] These chinks in the old picture however will serve him well.

Because of Ruburt’s mixture of symbolic and literal natures, the gesture gave him an excellent, definite sense of self-approval in a way that he has not experienced in some time. [...]

[...] I told him the red maple he’d help plant in the back yard had evidently died but he said it may not really be dead.

(We did take Tom’s address and phone number, Jane telling him that she might invite him and friends to the house some Friday night, with others. [...]

It is ridiculous for him to so punish himself, and does not help matters, as his joyous spontaneity is so important in his working habits.

[...] He never expected any financial rewards from poetry, and it occurred to him that in his recent neglect of it he may have been cheating himself in more ways than one.

Rather frequent informal relationships are more practical than occasional formal ones, and Ruburt is already involving himself, again, in the satisfying for him diversified household chores, which are also a break from strict mental work. [...]

[...] Also to him a note: even his adolescent, seemingly-undisciplined times were disciplined, giving notice of continuing ego strength, balanced and sometimes over-balanced by intuitional development, in that he never ceased writing from the day that he began.
