John said that nothing in the impressions meant anything to him; he could see no connections—so much so, he said, that as Seth gave the impressions John wondered if they were really directed to him. Since the data was remarkably consistent in that none of it applied to John, Jane and I began to wonder if it was not displaced from someone else.)

The error having to do with the name Philip—the minister at one time in his life was called Phil. The upsetting circumstance mentioned—the decision—representing the basis of conflict that perpetuates many of his physical symptoms. This material was received last evening, and displaced in this evening’s session. It could have been delivered last evening, you see. (Long pause, eyes closed.)

It is unfortunate that the displacement in material occurred. Perhaps Ruburt can check some of this out, with what her student knows of the man’s background. I also believe he has another child from his past. We will now end the session. I believe, in fact, that Ruburt’s student will be able to collaborate some of that material.

(Long pause at 9:31.) The displacement target effect is highly important, for it operates in many other fashions. [...] Too much concentration, however, upon the desired end—too much concentration —can bring about a displacement target effect. [...]

[...] That blockage may still allow a kind of displacement targeting, however, in which case inner abilities are allowed to operate, but in a rather sabotaged way—not hitting the target with which the conscious mind is so familiar or concentrated upon, but hitting another microscopic target instead, in which effects are then noticeable. You might have, for example, poor eyesight while you are concentrating upon trying to heal yourself of something else—a broken leg: your eyes might be healed in a displacement effect, while the healing of your leg or whatever might be put off immediately because it is blocked by your own overconcern. [...] Ruburt is working through many issues now well, however I do want to mention that Framework 2 often involves such “displaced” targets, when one desired event may be blocked in one area, but a beneficial event of like consequence instead happens in an area seemingly quite divorced from it.
