“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

As a personality is molded by his exterior circumstances, so is he also molded by the dreams that he creates, and which help to form his interior or psychic environment. To the whole self there is little differentiation made between actions that are of an exterior nature, and actions that are of an interior nature. While the ego makes these distinctions, the basic core of the personality does not do so.

The individual therefore reacts to his interior environment or psychic environment in the same way that he reacts to his physical situation. And as he changes his physical situation through reacting to it, so he changes his interior or psychic situation as he reacts to it.

If the personality handles his dream activities capably, then the problem action finds release. When the ego is too rigid, it will even attempt to censor dreams. When the personality in general is too rigid, freedom of action is not entirely permitted even in the dream state.

This is a rather simplified explanation. Consider however a situation in which the personality needs to express dependency, but feels that such an expression is not possible within his waking experience. If he is able to dream in such a manner that he can construct dream dramas in which he plays a dependent part, then the action is satisfied.

(The above paragraph brings to mind the fact that Seth discussed a dream of Bill Macdonnel’s during the 84th session; Bill witnessed the session, and afterwards told us he had no conscious memory of the dream, which had taken place a few days before the session according to Seth. Yet Seth analyzed the symbolic content of the dream rather thoroughly, saying it was an important one for Bill since it bore upon his home and professional life. See Volume 1.)

(The word fragment was first used in the 4th session, Volume 1, page 22, by Frank Watts. Actually the Frank Watts personality was in the process of being superseded by Seth then, and on the next page Seth announced his presence by name. This was on December 8,1963. The word compartment had been used in the third session, with a similar meaning.)

(End at 10:27. Jane was dissociated as usual. Her eyes had remained closed, her voice quiet. She said Seth had felt no apparent urge to elaborate on any of his answers to my questions. He was concerned mainly with the general material. She said she sensed a slight irritation on Seth’s part when I asked if anybody else had listened to the tape with Dr. Instream; it was as though Seth could get the information to answer the question, but didn’t feel inclined to so exert himself.
