(The session was again held in our front room, with all of us sitting in a circle. Jane’s eyes remained closed for the whole session. She spoke while sitting down, and in a voice a bit stronger than usual. Her manner was quite active and much of the time she leaned forward, elbows on her knees. We anticipated a short session. Jane actually began speaking at 8:56.)

I am pleased with our group. However this will be a short session. It is not because I grow weary. It is merely, again, that I must watch for your human limitations, and it will be best that you have all available energy at your beck and call later on for your trip.

Whenever it is possible, I would suggest that our gentleman with the ulcer read our last sessions. Indeed, I believe that he has somewhat less of an ulcer now, although the degree is slight. I will also, if I may, congratulate the writer of the newspaper article, even though my own name was nowhere mentioned, for it goes without saying that I am indeed truly humble.

The changes will not suddenly show themselves. This is merely a slow beginning, but the initial steps have been made, and the first and initial program has been completed. It is developing even better than I had hoped, and our own material will now begin to really develop, for we have enough background to enable us to cover subject matter that would have been impossible at an earlier time. But the first portion of our program has been completed in many other ways, having to do with the development of abilities, and with the development of that gestalt which we now form.

I will suggest your break, and we will then at least briefly continue. I would here add however that those others in this room have also helped us in at least one phase of our program. Take your break, and we will then continue.

His ego is indeed a healthy and vigorous one, but of a stubborn bent. For our purposes however this is actually excellent, for he is learning effectively to operate well in the physical environment while at the same time he is manipulating within that inner reality.

This is a difficult procedure, and in all cases and in all developments of this nature, there must be no attempt made to browbeat the ego, for in this way lies schizophrenia and disorientation. Ruburt’s abilities now are beginning to develop. We are sure of our foundation, and this was most necessary.

We can now begin shortly on other aspects of our program, the second. You are not unfamiliar with this program, Joseph, nor indeed is Ruburt. Your own inner knowledge is most adequate. It is Ruburt’s independent ego that is here a strong helpmate to us, for since we have taken it into consideration it allows us leeway while automatically keeping the whole personality in good balance.

His abilities will indeed improve to a large degree. Your own strength and balance and inner abilities provide a large part of the psychological climate in which we can operate. You also act, in that you provide both added energy and help Ruburt to receive these communications. I have promised you that I would explain more clearly the nature both of your abilities and their part in our venture, and so I will.

There will be not, not answers, but questions, shortly for our other guest. We shall provide the questions, and she shall provide the answers. She is asking the wrong questions, and the answers to them will not help her.

I was not speaking of specific questions. I did not think that our guest had a list of questions from one to ten, which I was being asked to consider.

I was speaking of those questions which our guest asks herself, and these are the questions that she subconsciously would like me to answer. We will go into these matters again upon another occasion.

You can also be of aid, both of you, as far as your brother Bill is concerned, Joseph, and I suggest that you take steps to speak with him, and if necessary we will hold a session, if the circumstances are correct for our purposes.

I am taking the opportunity to speak concerning these matters, since I had already decided not to cover any complicated material for our session. I am also giving you more frequent breaks, since I am again aware that your energies will be needed. Our material in general however can now expand; and indeed, though not always, some extra dimensions and perspectives may be added to our sessions.

It is only when I am not concerned with our weighty material that I can afford thinking in these directions. The second phase of our program will include definite expansions in the scope of our general material. It will show expansions in the manner in which we allow ourselves to operate. We will have greater leeway, and this is to the good.

To a large measure Ruburt’s confidence has been won. It was most necessary that we go slowly, particularly in the beginning, for if our foundation was not strong we would have never progressed. The whole venture would have been lost. There is no fate in these matters. Our venture was not fated to be. Our venture represents gestalts of energy coming together in quite natural manners. It was necessary however that we meet in such a manner without clashing.

We will later be concerned more deeply with this transparent mobility, for it operates within all systems. And without it your own physical system would not exist. When the nature and behavior of energy as it is seen in action is understood, and when it is applied to the mobility of the human personality, then such sessions as ours will be taken for granted, though this I admit will take a while.

I am not going to hold you up. However, I see that our group will have its Jesuit member.

The inquiring mind of our Jesuit member is indeed refreshing, and the very inquiry does him good. He hit upon several excellent points, and he will discover more. I enjoy this Jesuit; and for Ruburt’s benefit I will indeed tell you that the likeness that you have painted of me, Joseph, is excellent.

I will now, with my true dignity, bring this fateful session to a close. I would continue but for my innate good manners. I will at another occasion give our Jesuit some rather fateful measures to contemplate, and perhaps we will ask him how many ulcers can sit on the head of a pin.
