(The following data are from Jane’s psychological time notebook: December 31, Thursday, 11:35: A rather amazing experience of “ecstasy,” the strongest I’ve experienced so far. No voices or visions, however. Now an hour later traces of lightness and suspension still linger. Also a small nagging feeling of rising. January 4, Monday, 11:30 AM: No results in particular.

Ruburt may feel betwixt and between, as indeed at times he is, but only occasionally. We must have some experiments to progress. It seems that we should supplement our lectures, at least now and then. Also, if Ruburt is experimenting as he is with the trance state in psychological time experiments, it is a good idea that some of this experimentation be carried on by him under our excellent supervision; and after consideration I think that you will agree.

(I now became aware that Jane seemed to be pacing about the room with her eyes closed, or very nearly so. Certainly they were far from being wide open, as they usually were when she was on her feet. From my position they appeared to be closed, but from the confident manner in which she moved about the room I thought she could see a little at least.)

(After break Jane again resumed pacing. Again her eyes were nearly shut, but now occasionally they opened as usual. This was infrequent. Her voice was unchanged, her glasses once again off. Resume at 9:34.)

I am myself, now, to a large extent so freed. Were it not however for the basic independence of the inner self from matter, human life as you know it would also be impossible.

(Jane now sat down in a wicker chair opposite my writing table. She had not been smoking while delivering the material. Her eyes almost shut, she groped about on the table for her cigarettes, lit one and then leaned back with her eyes closed.)

There are many more. It is known now that the physical organism exists as many things. It even exists as radio waves, and to creatures who cannot perceive matter but can perceive radio waves, your physical body appears quite differently than it does to you. The whole physical organism contains checks and balances of which your scientists are still not aware, and I must also mention that for all its mandy-pamby, astrology has a strong basis, although it is only one small portion of the whole story, and not indeed the whole kettle of tales.
