So-called apparitions, again, are not unusual. They are more or less constant. Many of these apparitions exist in their own system whether or not you perceive them. Some apparitions are constructed by the perceiver and are basically caused by a telepathic communication. But all apparitions are not of this nature. All apparitions however, to appear as or within the physical system, must be constructed by the perceiver in the same manner that all physical objects are constructed.

This does not mean that apparitions are only the result of such construction on the part of the perceiver. The perceiver constructs the pseudomaterial apparition as he constructs the physical image of his contemporaries, but in, or rather and in line with telepathic data that is received by or from the consciousness whose material image is being constructed.

You recall we spoke of primary and secondary physical constructions. These classifications apply regardless of the basic nature of the consciousness that is to be materially formed. An apparition constructed as a result of telepathic data, picked up by the perceiver in message form, will be constructed by him in precisely the same manner that an apparition will be constructed that is a reflection of a survival personality.

If the data had been received by all of you, you would all have appeared to see more or less the same apparition. You would, of course, have each instead constructed your own apparition, in your own space perspective; and because of the other clues usually given the three apparitions would have seemed to be one, agreeing for all intents and purposes to be similar in terms of appearance, and approximate location.

The construction of the apparition was formed, therefore, by atoms and molecules. The idea behind it came from me, and was received by Mark; and then Mark constructed the apparition, which did in fact physically exist.

I mentioned that the change in Ruburt’s features was authentic, and also that what you prefer to call an apparition did indeed exist.

In the same way in the midst of life, you dwell with so-called ghosts and apparitions, and for that matter you yourselves appear as apparitions to others, particularly when you send strong thought-forms of yourself from the sleep state, or even when unconsciously you travel out of your physical body.

There are obviously as many kinds of ghosts and apparitions as there are people. [...] Some apparitions are thought-forms sent by survival personalities out of lingering deep anxiety. [...]

The same mechanism that causes a disturbed woman, say, to perform repetitive action such as a constant washing and rewashing of hands, also causes a particular kind of apparition to return time and time again to one place. [...]

(Seth reiterated some of the earlier material he has given us, concerning proofs, apparitions, etc. Once again he went into the reasons why it was possible for Bill Macdonnel to see Seth’s apparition during the 68th session for July 6,1964. [...] The gist of tonight’s material on this subject was that Bill allowed his intuitions enough freedom so that he was able to see the apparition for over an hour and to make several drawings of it; by the same token Jane and I were unable to see the apparition because we tried to intellectualize it. [...] We believe this was another form of apparition. [...]

Various kinds of apparitions can be explained in this manner. There is however no one explanation that will serve, for there are many kinds of apparitions. [...]

In projections, for example, you may appear as an apparition within your own system or in another system. You may on the other hand yourself encounter apparitions. [...]

You may encounter apparitions that are actual visitors from another system. [...]

(See page 266 of the last session, concerning Jane seeing Seth’s apparition. I had interpreted Seth’s material as indicating that Jane saw the apparition only while dreaming, and not in the waking state, as she has maintained all along.

(Tonight Jane said she interpreted the data to mean that she momentarily saw Seth’s apparition after waking up, before she switched to usual use of the outer senses. [...]

There are things he does not remember from his childhood, when he was warned against telling lies—apparitions that he spoke of. [...]

(Bill Macdonnel said that the dark bath doorway turned into a foggy white; he then saw the form of Seth’s apparition stand out against this lighter background. [...] Bill said the face of the apparition was about six feet above floor level.

[...] Bill has seen many images and apparitions during his life, and Seth has in past sessions discussed some of them, and their origin, briefly; so Jane and I were not surprised when Bill said he had another sighting.

I will have something to say about William’s apparition shortly.

[...] He then saw the form of Seth’s apparition stand out against this lighter background. [...] Bill added that the face of the apparition was about six feet above floor level. [...]

[...] Bill swore up and down that he had seen the apparition for nearly an hour. [...] The lights had all been lit, but I just couldn’t accept the idea of an apparition.

“I will have something to say about the apparition shortly. [...]

[...] We discussed the apparition Bill had seen in the bath doorway, described in the 68th session. This in turn led to Bill’s telling of some very vivid and upsetting dreams he had been having in recent days; in these dreams his bedroom had seemed to be peopled by apparitions or strangers, he said, entirely unfamiliar to him. [...]

[...] Seth stated that Bill was gifted in many lines of psychic ability, among them the perception of apparitions. [...]

(Now as the discussion progressed the three of us sat in the living room around our coffee table, staring into the open bath door and exchanging half-joking remarks about apparitions. [...]

[...] Animals have indeed sensed such apparitions. [...] They react to the chemical properties of the apparition, and build up the image from it—from them, the properties.

These chemical properties however are more diffuse in an apparition than in a physical form. [...]

Perhaps this diffused quality is the most important difference between such an apparition and a physical form. [...]

(Seth told us at the time that the apparition was of him, and that Bill could see it but that Jane and I could not because we were too “fussy” about what we allowed ourselves to see. He said that in the future—time unspecified—we should be able to see his apparition at times, but by no means regularly.

[...] Recalling this, I wondered if I was not making a strong effort to perceive Seth, perhaps in apparition form, this evening; which meant that possibly he was present to a stronger degree than usual.

[...] This particular session was witnessed by Bill Macdonnel, and during it he made two pen and ink drawings of an apparition he claimed to see in a doorway of our apartment. [...]

[...] In it a man received news of his wife’s death via his inner senses, by which he sees her apparition appear before him as she dies many miles away. The apparition I saw in the dream was not of Jane, but still the dream was very vivid, and somewhat upsetting. I believe it has elements of clairvoyance, and that possibly I disguised the identity of the apparition I saw in the dream.)

[...] The Seth apparition also appeared in full light. I’ve also known incidents since, when groups of highly suggestible people with little critical sense have gathered in dark rooms expecting all kinds of apparitions—and nothing happened at all.

[...] After all, that’s a normal enough reaction—usually when you look into a mirror, it gives a faithful reproduction, and no woman is going to be pleased to see a weird-looking apparition staring back.

[...] (As you will see, however, Seth appeared in apparition form in session #68.) From then on, we always kept lights on for easier checking of any effects that might appear.

[...] However many of the fragmentary apparitions that he has seen, for he has actually seen more fragmentary apparitions than he realizes, many of these have been fragmentary through his own inability to organize the material from the inner senses.

That is, because he “saw” (in quotes) a partial apparition, this does not mean that the so-called apparition was in itself not whole, he only perceived part. [...]

Our witness, our Mark, has had many experiences, as far as what you call apparitions are concerned, and in his case these have been of various types and he has seen them for various reasons.

[...] He will only appear in apparition form. [...]

It is quite possible for you to see his apparitional form.

[...] Yet Jane woke me at the time and told me she had just seen an apparition, while awake. [...]

[...] (Smiling:) He does not want my apparition, you might say, to intrude upon a physical living room, particularly, yet he wants to meet me (much louder, leaning forward) in an out-of-the-way place.⁵

[...] My reality is far more apparent than any apparition’s. Ruburt does well because he explores so cleverly, and keeps his strands of reality in good order.⁶

5. Jane has yet to see Seth’s apparition, however, or to meet him in her library or any other “out-of-the-way place.” [...]

Your doctor friend is still about, due to an extended rest period (Dr. Pietra); once again and for the last time until autumn conditions are good this time, particularly for an apparition. [...]

[...] A foggy white light will initiate an apparition, and possibly a slight lowering of room temperature. [...]

(During the 68th session Seth stated that eventually, as Jane’s abilities grow, it should be possible for him to speak to us from different locations in the room, independent of Jane’s position, and that it might also develop that he could speak to us from his own apparition. During this session an apparition was seen by a witness. [...]

[...] The apparition you saw beside your bed last summer was a personality fragment out of your past, warning you that you have an imbalance as far as height is concerned. [...] At the time he saw the apparition, Bill, who is a schoolteacher, had a summer job painting houses. [...]
