(Leonard does have a brother, Ken, who also lives here in Elmira, but as far as we know Ken was not involved in the Maine trip, which inspired the envelope object. Leonard’s girl, who went to Maine with him, is also dark-haired.

(There are actually 6 personal names on the back of the object: Leonard, John, Jane and myself, Lincoln, and the photographer who took the pictures used on the front of the postcard, Don Sieburg.
(Although this interpretation seems obvious, Jane said that J B also reminded her of our friend John Bradley, who had witnessed some sessions.

On page two of his letter Wendell tells about a friend who works for the Neilson TV survey people—having to do with pictures. But also, negative, meaning pictures, is called to mind because Wendell’s letter deals with a group of artists who worked together in a studio, drawing comic strips, in 1941-3. In addition I personally have a studio here in the apartment, and the envelope used as object was kept in this studio.

Note that Wendell Crowley, who mailed us the object, is partner in a lumber company.

[...]
As stated, the object contained a letter describing the reunion of perhaps half a dozen artists who worked together in the early 1940’s. The reunion was attended by the writer of the letter.

Tonight’s object of course is not a picture or photo, but an envelope that contained a letter about people who make pictures.

All four of us involved in the moving were quite amused, then — for the friends who helped Jane and me carry the furniture yesterday are the father-and-son contracting team that built the room in the first place.
(Pause.) In larger terms, there are really only scientific and religious men and women, however, and fields of science and religion would be meaningless without those individuals who believe in their positions.

A man who believes life has little meaning quickly leaves life—and a meaningless existence could never produce life (intently). Nor was the universe created for one species alone, by a God who is simply a supervision of the same species—as willful and destructive as man at his worst.

Now it takes study, development, and experience before an identity can learn to hold its own stability in the face of such constant stimuli; and many of us have gotten lost, even forgetting who we were until we once more awakened to ourselves.

It involved a foresight hardly imaginable, and I repeat that you had your part in the initial reaction, as did every entity who lived or will live upon the earth; and here we are getting into something rather difficult but certainly no mystery.
[...]
It was this first particle before earth had its form to which I referred when saying that it was the result of the will of all the entities who would ever be born upon it.
Those who have extremely strong hidden self-conscious selves have the need for greater use of individuality, and these people therefore create what could be called another plane in waking hours, through the use of art forms.

This way you have your actors taking the situation as it seems to be, but looking about in some amazement now and then to wonder how they got where they are, who constructed the stage and so forth.
