The greater portion of your nature belongs to the first man, and the second set of characteristics has been overlaid, so that there is a rub between the two systems of belief and feeling.

[...] Jane said the puzzling thing about this little dream was that in spite of its unpleasant content she felt no sense of alarm or danger or worry, that indeed she spoke to the two men quite cheerfully. I will here mention Ruburt’s dream, in which he spoke reassuringly to two men who were ill with cancer by telling them that this material said that he too had cancer.

(It will be remembered that in the 63rd session, June 17, 1964, Seth stated that he could “also see a sort of trouble in September for a woman neighbor who lives three doors down the street from him” in Williamsport, PA, “the difficulty here somehow involving two children... [...]

(The arrival of two unexpected witnesses made Jane a little nervous, but the mood passed rather quickly, she told me later. [...]

Life and death are but two faces of your eternal, ever-changing existence, however. [...]

Such differences or variations are very noticeable at a certain level, if you have more fingers than you are supposed to, or less, or two thumbs to a hand, or any other condition that is considered an abnormality.

(Today while relaxing, Jane received two impressions, both somewhat worrisome, that we hoped Seth would cover tonight.

[...] I then wondered aloud at the apparent suddenness of the breakup of symptoms, just three days after my pendulum session of last Sunday, and two days after the session with Seth on Monday, November 6. This brought Seth back at once.)

Within a very short time now the two will be joining full energy, with fresh purpose. [...]

[...] There must be a psychological chamber between these two portions of the self, however — these seemingly undifferentiated areas, in which back-and-forth translations can occur. Dream periods provide that service, of course, so that in dreams the two egos can meet and merge to some extent, comparing notes like strangers who perhaps meet on a train at night, and are amazed to discover, after some conversation, that they are indeed close relatives, each embarked upon the same journey though seemingly they travelled alone.

(10:14.) In those terms the undifferentiated area is actually filled with motion as psychological transitions and translations are made, until in dreams the two egos often merge into each other — so that sometimes you waken briefly with a sense of elation, or a feeling that in dreams you have met an old and valued friend.
