[...] You have several time and space tracks in operation at once, then, but you acknowledge only certain neurological messages physically. Yet there is more to the body than you perceive of it, and this is difficult to explain to you … If you can think of a multidimensional body existing at one time in various realities, and appearing differently within each one while still being whole, then you can get some glimpse of what is involved.³

(2.) In some systems of physical existence, a multipersonhood is established, in which three or four “persons” emerge from the same inner self, each one utilizing to the best of its abilities those characteristics of its own. This presupposes a gestalt of awareness, however, in which each knows of the activities of the others, and participates; and you have a different version of mass consciousness. [...]

In the systems in which evolution of consciousness has worked in that fashion, all faculties of body and mind in one “lifetime” are beautifully utilized. [...] The individual would say, for example, “I am Joe, and Jane, and Jim, and Bob.”⁶ There are physical variations of a sexual nature, so that on all levels identity includes the male and female. Quite literally, the “inner” self forms the body by magically transforming thoughts and emotions into physical counterparts …

It will involve an expansion of consciousness, not physical knowledge... [...] There is a give and take between you and the stars on a physical basis, just as there is also a connection between selves and what you call a god.

[...] Jane’s psy-time experiments will also be so treated so that we have a unified body of work covering this experiment. [...]

[...] In fact, some are based upon gestalts of awareness completely alien to you. Quite without realizing it, your ego is a result of group consciousness, for example; the one consciousness that most directly faces the exterior world, is dependent upon the minute consciousness that resides within each living cell of your body; and as a rule you are only aware of one ego — at least at a time.

[...] A child can think coherently before he learns vocabulary — but he cannot impress the physical universe in its terms. So this inner knowledge has always been available, but is to become physically manifest — literally made flesh. The Speakers were the first to impress this inner knowledge upon the physical system, to make it physically known. [...]

[...] Not only of your own physical reality, but your own probable physical reality.

[...] Some of these are physically materialized, others are actualized in probable systems. [...]

[...] Suddenly my consciousness left my body, and my mind was barraged by ideas that were astonishing and new to me at the time. On return to my body, I discovered that my hands had produced an automatic script, explaining many of the concepts that I’d been given. The notes were even titled — The Physical Universe as Idea Construction.

Because of my own experiences, particularly with out-of-body states, I’m convinced that consciousness is not dependent upon physical matter. Certainly physical expression is my main mode of existence right now, but I don’t take this to infer that all consciousness must be so oriented. [...]

I do not have a physical body, and yet I will be writing a book. [...]

The next chapter will deal with the basic methods of communication that are used by any consciousness, according to its degree, whether or not it is physical. This will lead up to the basic communication used by human personalities as you understand them, and point out these inner communications as existing independently of the physical senses, which are merely physical extensions of inner perception.

[...] The physical disease—the hardening of the arteries—is caused by the personality’s gradual refusal to accept new physical stimuli, thus avoiding physical experience (either purposefully or through error). People who are terrified of physical death might take this path, since when physical death occurs, consciousness is already acquainted with its new environment and the organism’s death is relatively meaningless. In any case, the individual’s inner decision causes the physical symptoms, not the other way around.

[...] Since her physical body was quite dead, she was in her astral body; yet she was acting confused, and her mind was still unclear, as if she still had hardening of the arteries.

[...] Through your physical image the energy of the universe expresses itself. [...] For the effects of the body are felt in the mind, and the mind’s effects are felt in the body.”

Remember what I said earlier, that we form physical reality as a replica of our inner ideas. [...] Her body defenses were lowered. [...]

Under ordinary circumstances, data is received through the physical senses and then interpreted by the brain. [...] The physical body becomes aware of it, but the senses have actually been bypassed. [...] Otherwise, the information would not register for the physical organism.

Sense data is not basically dependent upon the physical body. [...]

In the dream state, you smell odors that are not in the physical room. The memory of these is imprinted and registered by the body as faithfully and realistically as any ‘real’ odor. [...]

Then I recalled my previous experiments with dream states and knew that I wasn’t normally awake as I thought, but was wandering out in the living room, in an out-of-body state and hallucinating. [...] My body was still in bed. [...]

The conscious physically oriented portions of the self become acquainted with the inner information. To some extent the reality of thought is consciously perceived as the innovator behind physical matter. [...] The information made conscious is then passed on to others where it can be physically recognized and applied.

[...] A personality based within physical reality, between lives for example, would find entry in many ways easier. [...] I do have a memory of physical existence however, and this automatically helps me in translating your mental data into physical form. [...]

M-A-U-B-U-N-D-U, in Africa, 14 B.C. The Speakers, more than most, are highly active through all aspects of existence, whether physical or nonphysical, waking or sleeping, between lives or at other levels of reality. As certain physical data are carried along in the gene structure, so this inner information is codified within whatever psychological structures the Speakers may inhabit; but far more readily available than it is to other personalities. They imprinted it, however, upon the physical brain through the use of memory. [...] On the other hand, pertinent physical data was also communicated one to another in the dream state, and both states were utilized to a high degree. [...]

[...] When you leave the physical body, the other body is quite real to you and seems as physical, although it has many more freedoms. … Sally is delighted with this body, comparing it with the [sick] physical one. She is trying to cut off all identification with her physical body, whether it is alive or dead in your terms.

[...] One had to do with the kind of body Sally had at her disposal. Seth said, “Now the new body is, of course, not a new one at all, but simply a body not physical in your terms, one that you use in astral projections, one that gives the vitality and strength to the physical body that you know.

“When we leave the physical body, where do we go?” the minister asked. [...]

[...] Time as you experience it is an illusion caused by your own physical senses. [...] The physical senses can only perceive reality a little bit at a time, and so it seems to you that one moment exists and is gone forever, and the next moment comes and like the one before also disappears.

[...] First, my middle body felt depressed [or nonexistent] upon the bed. [...] It appeared that the point of transition between the two levels existed somewhere within, or beneath, my body, but I was not aware of it consciously. [...]

They are merely of a more complex gestalt, yet they share in the properties inherent in all units or systems, regardless of apparent size or complexity. [...]

[...] There is, nevertheless, a portion of individual psychic energy that resides, you may say within or behind, every physical manifestation; and this constantly seeks inventiveness in whatever direction is open to it.

This transformation of energy should be quite comprehensible since you know that you subconsciously transform energy into physical, mental, creative or psychological states, manipulating it to your advantage. [...]

[...] It seemed to have a definite function, though, perhaps in connection with the physical body. [...]

But beneath the sophisticated gestalt are the simpler foundations of its being and, indeed, the very acceptance of all stimuli without which identity would be impossible. Without this acquiescence, the physical structure would never maintain itself, for the atoms and molecules within it constantly accept painful stimuli and suffer even their own destruction. [...]

[...] The physical body operates within certain electromagnetic patterns and is adversely affected by others. [...]

Seth first spoke of therapeutic dreams in the 198th session for October 13, 1965 — though he insisted from the beginning that the inner self had the ability to cure the body. In this session, he explained exactly how such a dream acted upon the physical system.

[...] Even those who are familiar with our material, and know the various means by which individuals create a fairly cohesive body of physical data and call it the physical universe, even these persons will say that while they agree that the individual creates the physical universe with the cooperation of others, that universe has a unity and permanence and recognizable form that the dream world does not have.

The same sort of psychic agreement holds the dream universe together as holds the physical universe together. If a man could actually focus his concentration upon those hidden, feared, mainly unknown, unrecognized elements in the physical universe upon which men simply cannot agree; if he could focus upon the dissimilarities rather than the similarities in the physical universe, he would wonder what gave anyone the idea that there was even one physical object upon which men could agree.

For one thing, and I will go into this deeper shortly, those who now know existence on the physical level more or less because of certain cycles lived before on the physical level at about the same historical periods. They possess an inner familiarity, a cohesiveness that belonged to a more or less specific period, and to periods before, where they inhabited the same sort of physical universe.

At the risk of sounding childishly simple I will say, and I will not be understood, that each creation of idea or matter, physical matter, is a first creation.

[...] Space travel will be dumped when your scientists discover that space as you know it is a distortion, and that journeying from one so-called galaxy to another is done through divesting the physical body of camouflage [matter]. [...]

Time reversal or particle symmetry, the equivalence of space and time, is a tenet of relativistic physics and quantum theory. [...] Such concepts in association with electron spin may be dealt with in the literature of physics, but are unfamiliar to me or outside my limited understanding. [...]

[...] They used a mental physics. [...]

[...] In all of these cases you are ignoring the reality of consciousness, and its gestalt formations and manifestations. [...]

You are meant to judge physical reality. You are meant to realize that physical reality is a materialization of your thoughts and feelings and images. [...]

[...] If you want to speak in terms of God, then from that infinite gestalt you receive the energy to create, but because you have free will, you create what you choose and you learn through experience. [...]

Forget body language, you will not be using it all the time you know. [...]

12. I’m not sure how something like naïve realism fits in with out-of-body travel (or “projection”), however. [...] Paradoxically, our perceptions while out-of-body can be more tenuously connected to temporal reality than usual, yet more acute at the same time. I was aware of the accustomed physical world during a projection that’s described in Seth Speaks (see the 583rd session in Chapter 20), and in some other dream-connected out-of-body situations. However, our use of naïve realism must often govern what we allow ourselves to experience while consciousness is separated from the body. I also think that some out-of-body travels, apparently to “alien” nonphysical realities, may actually be based instead upon interior bodily states or events. [...]

Because you are flesh and blood creatures, the interior aspects of perception must have their physical counterparts. But material awareness and bodily response to it would be impossible were it not for these internal webworks … I am saying that all exterior events, including your own bodies with their insides, all objects, all physical materializations, are the outside structures of inside ones that are composed of interior sound and invisible light, interwoven in electromagnetic patterns.

[...] Are you physically composed of murderous cells, then, each spontaneously out to get the others? If so, your physical being is more miraculous a product than even I have ever told you! [...] As you listen to me, the cooperative, creative adventure within your bodies continues, and in terms of continuity reaches back prehistorically and into the future. [...]

[...] Simply put, naïve realism teaches that our visual and bodily senses reveal to us an external world as it really is — that we “see” actual physical objects, for instance. Disbelievers say that neurological evidence contradicts this theory; that from the neurological standpoint the events in our lives and within our bodies depend upon interpretation by the brain, that we can know nothing directly, but only experience transmitted through — and so “colored” by — the central nervous system. [...]

[...] Physical life is not the rule. [...] You see physical bodies and suppose that any personality must appear in physical terms. Consciousness is the force behind matter, and it forms many other realities besides the physical one. It is only because your own viewpoint is presently so limited that it seems to you that physical reality is the rule and mode of existence.

“The source and power of your present consciousness has never been physical, and where I am, many are not even aware that such a physical system exists. The physical system is an illusion, but you must accept it and from its viewpoint try to understand the realities that exist beyond it. [...] He must leave the physical system, and in so doing set up habits and paths that can be used to advantage.”

[...] So much of your energy is used in these physical productions that you cannot afford to perceive any reality but your own. Again, like children playing with blocks, your focus of attention is upon physical blocks.

When the personality compared physical reality with children’s blocks, he made a remark about individuals returning in our future to peer into physical reality like giants squinting down to watch children play with blocks upon the floor. [...]

[...] (Jane briefly picked up the material mentioned before the start of the session.) Since you are naturally interested in your own physical system, we will deal thoroughly with the methods by which reality turns itself into camouflage. Also, we will deal with other methods to be used by you, that will allow you to perceive more clearly the basic nature of reality (pause), in quotes “showing through” physical camouflage. [...]

[...] She said she felt that when she stood up she would shoot ahead through the wall—shoot straight ahead—she felt a great energy about her, and wondered about her physical control. [...] Yet her feet felt like lead, to her surprise, and she was surprised at the sheer physical movement.

[...] Questions such as those pertaining to life after death, in your terms, will be covered perhaps in a consecutive number of sessions, in which such matters will be covered in a body of material.

[...] (Pause.) We will also be developing the God concept in terms of my choosing (amused), the pyramid-consciousness gestalts of which I have spoken in the past. [...]

[...] Using your idea of time, I can only say that when the entire gestalt of consciousnesses that formed a particular earth have formed its reality to the best of their abilities, fulfilling their individual and mass capacities as far as possible, then they lovingly turn over that grid to others, and continue to take part in existences that are not physical in your terms. [...] Dreams exist at other levels, and physically of course they affect the body state. [...]

[...] Man does not in his physical development pass through the stages supposedly followed by the hypothetical creature who left the water for the land to become a mammal—but each species does indeed have written within it the knowledge of “its past.” [...] (Pause.) The reincarnational aspects of physical life, however, serve a very important purpose, providing an inner subjective background. [...]

[...] Once a consciousness, however, has chosen the larger classification of its physical existences, it stays within that framework in its “reincarnational” existences. [...] The animals, for example, seem to have a limited range of physical activity in conscious terms, as you think of them. [...]

I am again, as I have said often, an energy personality essence, which means quite simply that I am a personality who does not now operate within the physical reality. I can at times impress your physical reality, but the focus of my existence no longer involves a three-dimensional psychological structure. [...]

[...] These impressions must then be translated into terms that can become physical.

I have lived in physical terms within your three-dimensional universe, and I am aware of that universe. [...]

[...] I’m not projecting, but I feel like I’m half off to the right…” Yet she was aware of sensation within her physical body—a spot on her gum, etc.

He is warm physically now; again the energy available during the session is being largely utilized by his psychic and physical system. [...]

[...] The energy pouring through her last session seemed to clear out her physical system; she felt a “mysterious muscular release.”

Now give us a moment … As the cells operate with the knowledge of probable actions and still maintain the physical body in your chosen system, so the psyche, operating in the same way, “seeds” itself in many different probabilities. In this case specifically, I am speaking of other physical probabilities — alternates, in other words, of the world as you know it. [...]

[...] For one thing, any focus point of physical life is caused by a merging of probabilities. [...]

The very practice of pinpointing the time of physical birth at conception itself errs. [...]

Consciousness does not simply choose to be born at a certain place in space and time, but it also endows its physical organism ahead of time with certain inner triggers so that it will respond to those conditions in highly individualistic ways.
