(Since we’d missed both regular sessions this week, Jane decided to make up one of them tonight; she wanted to maintain her usual momentum on the book as much as possible. [...]

(To Joel) I know you did not mean it, the way that I seemed to take it, but it was too good to miss. [...]

Without the sort of directed knowledge that you are receiving, you have what appears as inspiration, a hit-or-miss affair, highly distorted as a rule. [...]

(I should say here that one of the things the pendulum told me early in the week was that I was concerned because Jane wasn’t having regular sessions any more —that I felt she was missing something important in her life because of this lack. [...]

[...] Meaning, of course, that many of those invisible leaves would represent the missing, physical, intermediate forms demanded by evolutionary theory.

Miss Carr, (referring to Tam’s immediate boss) a spectacular enough achievement early in life, I believe. [...]
