9. A note added two months later: In retrospect it’s easy to see that while discussing his ideas of counterparts here, Seth was also preparing us for the families-of-consciousness material he was to start giving in January 1975. [...]

The child plays at being an adult long before he is one, and so you can play with more desirable beliefs while you are still growing into that more beneficial picture.

(I told Jane, before lunch, that at times I see what Seth is talking about, what he’s really saying, quite clearly at times, and that this growing awareness in recent months has had a rather profound effect in my thinking. [...]

[...] I do not know who he is, but think that I must have known him sometime in the past. [...]

[...] He is in a strange position, in that he is an overall self, composed in part of the sum of these other selves, and yet more than the sum.

Some parents, unfortunately, use the nature of suggestion in the most undesirable way, so that a child is often told that he or she is sickly, or weak or overly sensitive, and not as robust as other youngsters. [...]
