[...] Granted that Seth’s material may “only” be bringing into our conscious awareness knowledge we already possess and use on other levels, still it’s a fine thing that his material makes us aware of that inner comprehension — and so new dimensions of consciousness become available to us. I “drew” a rough analogy with painting (to make a pun): The artist may start working on a blank canvas, yet each physical brush stroke he or she delineates is built upon inner knowledge and experience; in the painting these qualities are objectified in new combinations, which in turn add further to the artist’s conscious comprehension. [...] If information is thought to come to the self only through physical means, then of course heredity and environment must be seen behind human motivation. [...]

[...] The time you seem to spend within the dream, within each life, is only an illusion, and to the inner self no moment has passed, and to the inner self there is no time.

[...] But there is a part of you that is not imprisoned within three-dimensional reality, and that part of you knows that there is no time, that there is only an eternal now; and that part of you that knows is the whole self, the inner personality that knows all of your lives.

The identity, indeed, is as much and more the inner self as it is the ego. This has been mentioned in the past, but Ruburt became so fearful of his own spontaneity in early life that he was more or less forced, out of fear, to deny the validity of his identity with the inner self. [...]

[...] Brisk walks should be a daily part of Ruburt’s schedule in any case, and walking also refreshes the inner self.

[...] With the schedule that I have suggested the inner energies are vividly and intensely focused, but for a short period of your time. This allows for an excellent utilization of the abilities already developed, and permits, again, excellent concentrated inner focus. [...]

[...] I have told you that it is extremely limiting to regard the ego as the complete self or personality, or to think that the ego makes up the entire identity.

[...] He began to think of his inner ego almost as if it were a stranger to himself. It became his version of the soul, and there seemed to be a duality—a self who acted in the physical universe, and a separate spiritlike soul that acted in an immaterial world.

Sleepwalking was once, in that beginning, a very common experience—far more so than now—in which the inner self actually taught the physical body to walk, and hence presented the newly emerged physically oriented intellect from getting in its own way, asking too many questions that might otherwise impede the body’s smooth spontaneous motion.

The inner and outer egos do not have a cementlike relationship, but can interrelate with each other in almost infinite fashions, still preserving the reality of physical experience, but varying the accents put upon it by the inner areas of subjective life. [...]

[...] (Long pause.) At the time of this awakening man did experience, then, some sense of separation from his dream body, and from his own inner reality—the world of his dreams—but he was still far more aware of that subjective existence than you are now.

[...] In most instances, or at least in many instances, I do not see the particular physical image of a witness to a session; but indeed as you described it, I see what you may call a composite image, an energy reality that is composed of past personalities, and in many cases also of future personalities that will be adopted by the inner self.

[...] This should prove highly interesting, and if such experiments are carried on consistently over a period of years, then the results could lead to excellent evidence for the various layers of the subconscious and the inner self, of which I have spoken for so long.

[...] The simplest part of the experiment will involve the use of self-suggestion in dream recall.

[...] The very self-suggestions that will enable you to recall your dreams may also change their nature, to some extent, for any action changes any other action.

[...] This means that in your inner self you have a clear idea of the goals which Ruburt, for many reasons, some quite legitimate, hides from his practical self.

The whole self is involved not only in this reality but in other realities. The whole self sends a portion of itself into various realities. These portions of the whole self are to learn to materialize as best they can the strength and energy as they know it in whatever camouflage they find themselves. The whole self gives you, therefore, a responsibility—and it leaves it mainly up to you. [...]

And when the “little” self says, “I am afraid and I will make excuses,” you must imagine the larger self saying, “I am strong. I will not allow the smaller self to make excuses. [...] You must identify with the larger portion of your self. [...]

(To Brad.) You became afraid of the inner self, and what was hidden there, and so you denied it. [...]

[...] The inner self knows what it is doing. [...]

[...] The inner beliefs are continually strengthening the ones of freedom, and the body is responding. [...]

[...] That is the situation in the inner order of events now.

That inner order is being physically materialized. [...]

[...] However it is impossible for them to create a consistent solid image in your terms, for while they are still focused within your system the inner self knows well that the individual is finished with a given life situation, is out of alignment so to speak, and is therefore denied full use of its own energy.

[...] Value fulfillment is always working, yet there is between those two statements—you realize the ones to which I refer—the idea of judgment as an impetus and spur against the inner self’s knowledge of the growth that must come.

I will tell you this (pause, eyes open):Neither of you realize as yet the full extent of Ruburt’s inner change of mind, his commitment now to our work, the commitment of his abilities to these matters for his lifetime.

[...] The earlier resistance against exercise was quite understandable, for it was a symptom of the inner resistance.

Unfortunately, certain aspects of Christianity were stressed over others, and that dictum was based upon the belief in a wicked self that needed to be disciplined and diverted into constructive activity. The belief in such an unsavory self stops many people from any exploration of the inner self — and, therefore, from any direct experience that will give them counter-evidence. [...]

[...] At the same time, such beliefs convince them that the self is evil. [...] The psyche’s organizations are broader, and in their way more rational than most of your conscious beliefs about the self.

(10:08.) Sexuality is the only strong area of energy with which some people are connected, so it becomes the focal point for all of their beliefs about the self in general. [...]

[...] The personality, through the inner self, has indeed created or constructed the physical form, but the very material from which it was constructed also contains its peculiar consciousness, as you know.

[...] Openings, so to speak, for the influx of new material into the physical form, are made possible by the inner self. [...]

The relative, neutral passivity is attained as various portions of the whole self once more collect together. The acceleration, which is mental, begins as those divergent portions of the whole self interact. This is an electromagnetic sequence or action that will eventually help provide the impetus for projection of the whole self into another field of actuality, as the rate of acceleration increases and becomes more unified.

[...] This was delivered April 6. The 44th session includes much on the basic laws of the inner universe also, as do the other sessions received during this period. [...]

(2.) In some systems of physical existence, a multipersonhood is established, in which three or four “persons” emerge from the same inner self, each one utilizing to the best of its abilities those characteristics of its own. [...]

Quite literally, the “inner” self forms the body by magically transforming thoughts and emotions into physical counterparts …

(“Well,” I said to Jane after class, as we discussed the Chinese-American situation cited by Seth, “I don’t know about counterpart relationships in other kinds of realities, but it’s certainly obvious that at least some physical counterparts can hate each other …” So the larger self, I thought, would be quite capable of seeking experience through its parts in every way imaginable. Although it might be difficult for us to understand, let alone accept, the whole self or entity must regard all of its counterparts as sublime facets of itself — no matter whether they loved, suffered,⁵ hated, or killed each other or “outsiders.” [...] At the same time, the self would learn and be changed through the challenges and struggles of its human portions.

… the so-called laws of your camouflage physical universe do not apply to the inner universe … However, the laws of the inner universe apply to all camouflage universes … Some of these basic laws have counterparts known and accepted in various camouflage realities.

For all of this, however, inner portions of each individual’s being are not touched by those beliefs. [...] Yet beneath, the inner self is quite aware of the great thrusting creativity that occurs in dreams, and realizes that the source of individual energy has nothing to do with such superficial concepts as the nature of good and evil.

[...] I came across his essay, The Poet, in which he talked about the ‘speakers’ as being those who use their inner abilities to ‘speak the inner secrets of nature.’ The essay impressed me strongly, seeming to echo elements in my own writing and psychic characteristics; and of course I thought of Seth’s ‘Speakers’ as he described them in Chapter Twenty of Seth Speaks. [...] While your religions are built around an enduring kernel of truth, the symbolism used was craftily selected by the inner self in line with its knowledge of those root assumptions you hold as valid in the physical universe. [...] So this inner knowledge has always been available, but is to become physically manifest — literally made flesh. The Speakers were the first to impress this inner knowledge upon the physical system, to make it physically known. [...]

(Pause at 9:26.) The inner reality of the message was told in terms that man at the time could understand, in line with his root assumptions. [...]

[...] It arose into the world of physical actuality out of the inner reality from which your deepest intuitions and insights also spring.

[...] In a fashion the form also represented the innocent and powerful inner self, or spontaneous self, or naturally magical self—the terms are synonymous.

[...] The knower is of course always present, but the part of your culture that is built upon the notion that no such inner knowledge exists, and those foolish ideas of rational thought as the only provider of answers, therefore often limit your own use of inner abilities.

[...] The information, which was nonphysical, was then transformed into practical knowledge either from inner visual imagery by itself, or through the state of dreaming.

[...] Early man was in that same position, and his inventions—his tools, his artistry, and so forth—came into being from the inner, ever-present realm of the mind, triggered by his unconscious but quite real estimation of his position within the universe at large, and in regard to his own environment.

[...] Your conscious mind was taken up fully with your activities, giving the inner self full rein. [...]

[...] He can tell himself that his dream self becomes his physical image. He knows his dream self is real. [...]

It is because of this instantaneous creation and projection of inner reality into form that you experience time within the physical system—to train you literally, to give you time to learn to handle your own creations. [...]

[...] As your inner environment changes you also begin to attract others. [...]

“The dream world is indeed a natural by-product of the relationship between the inner self and the physical being. [...]

[...] For example, without the peculiar spark set off through the interrelationship existing between the inner self and the physical being, the dream world would not exist. [...]

[...] These can help you become aware again of those inner idealizations that form your private reality and your mass world. [...]

Because you have in the past convinced yourselves that the conscious mind must of necessity be cut off from inner reality, you think that it must be alienated from the dream state. [...]

[...] It is a natural protective mechanism of inner origin, directly affecting matter. It is a self-correcting mechanism. [...]

[...] And it is only in that state that the inner self can utilize its abilities.

[...] Suggest that while you sleep your inner self will make whatever corrections or adjustments are necessary to bring about this end.

[...] These ways will not only be helpful in facilitating these automatic health correction tendencies, but will also be generally beneficial as far as all inner abilities are concerned.
