[...] Naturally this is brought about by my own reactions to whatever the trigger happens to be, but still “Unknown,” and other creative endeavors have often been involved, when conflicts between what I think of as useful creative work run into doing things like shoveling snow, or other household items that I seem to think of as “chores.” [...] The long working time—perhaps three years—spent on “Unknown” evidently allowed that project to accumulate strong psychic charges on my part; when doubts or challenges arise in conflict with the work on the book, I would react in uncomfortable ways occasionally.

[...] The points I have mentioned are the ones that can literally work miracles in your lives, and they can begin tomorrow. [...]

[...] If you can get possessions while not having a worthwhile job, then they must work that much harder for more possessions, to prove their way correct, and yours lacking. [...] They must have more to show for all their work, you see.

[...] My question simply wanted to explore the relationship between the onset of symptoms before the psychic work, and the fact that a psychic “failure” had the ability to deepen them. [...]

[...] She often went into detail concerning the suspected session, without saying anything about the fact that a psychic experience could make worse symptoms that had begun before the psychic work, per se, had become conscious knowledge to us.

(On Monday, November 4, I mailed to Jane’s publisher all of the art due for her Adventures in Consciousness: An Introduction to Aspect Psychology: the 16 diagrams I’d just finished, plus two older pieces of work. [...] I thought it interesting that as I was completing work for Jane’s first book on aspect psychology, she was starting Psychic Politics, the second one in the series. [...]

[...] For her to work this way is entirely in keeping with her spontaneous nature; she intuitively seeks to use whatever sources of information — including Seth himself — she has at hand for whatever project she may be engaged in. In the early chapters of Politics especially, then, she both quotes and paraphrases material from Volume 2, beginning with the 714th session, which contains her account of her original inspiration for that work.

[...] But for now let’s say that Jane knows of James and his work; she’s read parts of his Varieties, for instance, but seemed rather put off by it, where I reread passages from it frequently.

[...] The author requested additional material from Seth on Jung or his works. [...]

(I don’t know how long I’ll continue to benefit from Jane’s assistance, though, since poetry, painting, and notes can all be quickly laid aside if she starts a new project, or resumes work on one that she’s kept in abeyance for some time. [...] Another is the sequel to her novel, The Education of Oversoul Seven; that first Seven book was published in April 1973 — and lately she’s been thinking of resuming work on Seven Two, as we usually call it.¹ One thing is certain: Jane will see to it that something creative happens to change the status quo, for she’s much too restless and energetic to leave things as they are.

[...] But now it seems that when science claims to understand the workings of a molecule of DNA, for example — the “master molecule” of life, as it’s often called — science then states that it’s stripped away the mystery of DNA and reduced our functions to easily understood mechanistic ones. But Jane and I maintain that grasping the marvelous workings of DNA should instead increase our sense of the wonder and mystery of life. [...]

[...] Actually, she had converted my original typed sessions making up Psyche into standard manuscript form for the publisher; I still have to do many of the notes for the book after I finish my work on Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality several months from now.

[...] She still planned to leave up to me the detailed, even painstaking work that she doesn’t care for: the endless checking and rechecking of dates and events in order to get each note just right. [...]

The strong energy that was being diverted was working to his disadvantage, and you have felt it as a burden and a drag. You should now begin to feel almost immediately the addition of this reclaimed energy as it works for you. [...]

[...] The trance state nevertheless is a deep one, but in this condition all of my energies can be used for other work, such as the gaining of clairvoyant material, as in the new work episode.

[...] The inner difficulties therefore being worked out in several areas at once. [...]

[...] The new book will be the reconciliation, and it will mark the beginning of Ruburt’s real work.

[...] I worked on Dreams this morning, and also did some quick rough work on a first draft of my own letter to be sent to those who give us money.

[...] I worked on mail. [...]

[...] I enjoyed doing these very much, and remember being surprised at the time at the aptitude I seemed to show for such work. I had never done such work before. The work won prizes during its travels about the country.

[...] In your terms you worked out this possibility by weaving, over a period of three years, a dream framework in which you learned exactly what your life would have been, had you gone into medicine.

[...] He continues to work out his own probabilities. [...]

[...] “You were very rigid in the way you made lines, in your work. [...]

[...] In answer to a question, Jane said that although reincarnational data would remain buried in many cases, it would still have to be dealt with, worked out in the present life in present terms.

[...] You taught him how to direct his emotions in his work. [...]

Now with Ruburt, not necessarily generally, specific suggestions work well, when they are not overdone for example, and the progress then serves as an extra reinforcement. [...]

(“The pendulum says I don’t think I’ll get money for Through My Eyes, that it’s a waste of time, that I don’t want to work on it. I do want to work on Mass Reality, so as soon as I finish my filing for Through My Eyes, I’ll start in on Mass Reality.

(“Tonight the pendulum says just what it did yesterday—that I feel poorly because I estimated a high income when we don’t have it in sight; that I think I should be working on Mass Reality instead of Through My Eyes because the former will bring in sure money; that I think I don’t contribute enough financially; that I feel lousy because I want something definite to work on —that at this time I’m not contributing enough. [...]

[...] Pendulum tells me the side bothers because I’m not working on Mass Reality, which will get us money, whereas Through My Eyes is a less-certain project, would take longer, and the time I spend on it is time lost on Mass Reality. [...]

[...] This was a period in which I had a series of potent dreams that Jane has done a lot of work interpreting [including my famous dog dream of March 31, 1979], and which could easily make up several chapters in a book on the subject, if we had the time to produce it. [...]

(7:30 P.M. After supper I told Jane I was going to work on the essays for Dreams. [...]

[...] Jane was nodding in her chair as I finished, and I thought she wouldn’t be doing any work this evening after all. [...]

[...] And if spontaneous order was such a vital ingredient in the workings of the universe, then what was I doing trying to shut it down in my own daily life?

Now Ruburt worked against that concentration of yours in producing Seven. [...]

[...] His freedom, earned, has been bringing results financially and creatively in work areas. [...]

You tried to change your beliefs, and worked at it.

(In the early hours of May 29, following the last session, Jane had her most vivid experience yet involving book work during the sleep state. [...]

[...] How come I was doing an early chapter — or was this work for a different book?”

Dictation: Ruburt was working with alterations of consciousness this afternoon. [...]

[...] (He often has the radio on when he is working with alternate states of consciousness, by the way, using it as a point of reference.)

(Jane and the members of her ESP class have worked with Seth’s book practically every week during its production, and she’s also read it while alone; still, she announced, “I want to go through the entire thing now so that I can see it as a whole.” I told her I thought she’d produced a fine work.

[...] Until you work with your beliefs, this guilt can be initiated by the most harmless episodes and characteristics. [...]

Ruburt and Joseph have both worked with the nature of creativity, and from an early age each of them sought for answers — but most of all they trusted the destiny and grace of their beings.

[...] Even as we prepared this manuscript for the printer, two more of her works, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time, and Aspect Psychology, were contracted for publication by Prentice-Hall. [...]

[...] I’d say that to some extent at least its content flows from the proposed interview with a reporter from The Village Voice, a contact made with the business manager at WELM in town, and so forth—hardly accidental, we think, that these events connected with publicity, her work, etc., come into our awareness at this time. [...]

[...] Ruburt does not need to apologize to anyone for his less-than-perfect physical condition, nor feel that his physical lack of mobility—relatively speaking—casts aspersions on the sessions or on our work. [...]

(What particularly upset me about the flap over publicity was that I saw in it a repetition of past ways of refusing to meet challenges head on involved with the psychic work. I finally understood that Jane didn’t want to do any work involving publicity or interviews, and that for years now she’s bitterly—if unwittingly —resisted such demands, and that these unresolved pressures were having a devastating effect upon her physically. [...]

[...] Later his ideas of responsibility told him he should be working—not because he wanted to be working, but because he should be. [...]

[...] I’ve seen her carry such envelopes from room to room with her work, even.]

[...] That tendency became stronger as our “work” became better known. [...]

[...] I found I had to work harder taking my notes, to remind myself of the many symbols and signs I had worked out; some of these had temporarily slipped my mind, I discovered. [...]

[...] During the long layoff Jane and I worked on Seth’s book, editing, rewriting notes, etc. [...]

The creative liberation in his own work (since Seth’s book has been finished Jane has started two books of her own) is a clear symptom on the positive side of the change in feeling-tone, as was the more expansive idea of adding to your establishment. [...]

[...] His reactions were based upon the past and had to be brought up into the present, and worked through, and this largely has been done. [...]

(We were late getting started because of my own work in the studio. [...]

The whole nature and structure of physical life as you know it, is a symbolic statement made by groups of entities who choose to work with physical symbolism. [...]

(Seth burst out with loud and emphatic humor this time because of the work Jane and I have done in recent weeks as we proofread this book, checking all my notes that are included, and so forth.)

[...] Nor could I keep all of Seth’s book in mind, even though I was working with the manuscript just now. [...]

(After holding the first session for this chapter, Jane wrote intently on Oversoul 7 and did some work on a long-range project that she tentatively calls Aspect Psychology. Then, just before we were to resume work on Seth’s book, the great flood of Friday, June 23, 1972, took place.

[...] Since we occupy two apartments in order to have enough living and working space, we had room to take in a couple who had been flooded out. [...]

(In August Jane held one session on the flood — in which Seth had time to just touch upon the reasons behind our personal involvement in it — and late that month and in September we had several house guests in connection with psychic work. [...]

(When she felt it was time to resume work on Seth’s book, Jane discovered to her surprise that she was somewhat nervous about it. [...]

Jane regarded all of these works as being science “fantasy” rather than “straight” science fiction. [...] “My mind just worked that way,” Jane said of her stories. [...]

[...] Among them were the resolution of some old family relationships — and nowhere in this note am I talking about past lives or probable lives, but just the working out of hard questions rooted in this present physical reality. [...] But I also think that in many ways it would be her most illuminating work. [...]

[...] As you know now, comforting him can be frightening to you, because it returns you both to deep emotional realizations and feelings that you sublimate in your paintings, and even to mystical experiences that you also channel through your work.

[...] He would keep it safely inside a “play” structure — not play necessarily in basic terms, but a structure in which he would work with models, cleverly, never applying his creative abilities in certain ways to a practical reality. [...]

[...] I forget just how those feelings went, but that approximates them, being ashamed of my condition as if for Christ’s sake, they blemished my art, or ashamed because they blemished my work. [...] I mean that in my mind the symptoms were associated with my work as if they cast aspersions on it—quite apart from worrying about what they did to me. [...]
