(It will be remembered that during the unscheduled session on last Sunday, February 27, and during Monday’s regular session for February 28, Seth had mentioned the possibility of witnesses for last Wednesday’s session, March 2. Moreover he mentioned the possibility existed for two sets of witnesses, and for four people, perhaps even five. When no witnesses appeared for Wednesday’s session Seth said in answer to my question: “I was being cagey. I merely said their attendance was possible. My time elements were simply off here, unfortunately.” Jane had smiled broadly while giving this answer.
(Seth was going into the relationship between predictions and probabilities when the session came to an end because of the mentioned interruption. As stated, two sets of witnesses had been present. A fifth person had also appeared, causing the end of the session after one set of witnesses had left. See page 326.
(An unscheduled session was held this evening. It was witnessed by four people, and interrupted by a fifth. This account is written the following morning after a review of the main points with Jane. No notes were taken at the time of the session.
(Two sets of witnesses did attend tonight’s unplanned session, the Gallaghers and Marilyn and Don Wilbur. Jane began speaking as Seth at 11:45 PM, continued until about 12:15 AM, took a break during which the Gallaghers left, then resumed briefly, from about 12:30 to 12:45 AM with the Wilburs present. The session might have continued but was interrupted by the visit of a friend who does not know of them. We do not often get visitors after midnight; this friend has visited us perhaps three times in the last year, so we can say his arrival was unexpected.
(The witnesses were Ann Diebler, Marilyn and Don Wilbur, and the Gallaghers. The same group witnessed an unscheduled session described in the notes for the 214th session of December 6,1965. [...]
(As often happens when witnesses are present, Seth was in a fine and frisky mood; there is no doubt that a witness or two will produce what appears to be abundant extra energy on Seth/Jane’s part. [...]
[...] John had never heard the loud Seth; the previous sessions he witnessed had all been quiet ones. [...]
[...] It is scattered through the following sessions that John has witnessed: 37, 54, 63, 70, 95, 135, 166, in Volumes 1 through 3.)
John also asked Seth if he knew what the trouble had been when John had had a pain in his throat on June 17,1964; on this date John witnessed the 63rd session. [...]
(John Bradley, of Williamsport, PA, was a witness to the session. John has witnessed quite a few sessions and read much of the Seth material. Indeed, John was the first to witness a session, on February 18,1964. The last session he witnessed was on February 24,1965. [...]
[...] John knocked on our door during the session, but since we had not yet begun having witnesses, we asked him to return later. [...]
[...] In one of my more friendly moods, I might indeed have tried a materialization of my own that would have frightened the poor woman out of her wits.
[...] She insisted that I get pen and paper, that we have a session now with John as a witness. [...] At its end will be found a copy of John Bradley’s handwritten, dated and signed statement that he was a witness.
[...] It will be remembered that during the 21st session Seth had wanted John to stay as a witness. [...]
[...] She later told me that at the beginning she was very nervous, since this was her first time before a witness. [...]
[...] For that matter I welcome a witness, and it is time that you had one—for your own edification, not mine, and it should do my nervous pigeon Ruburt some good.
(For the session we had three witnesses: Lorraine Shafer, who witnessed the 144th session, and Bill and Peg Gallagher, who have witnessed the 158th and the last session. The last time Jane spoke before three witnesses was during the 89th session. Since then we have had two witnesses at a time often, however.
[...] The witnesses tonight had been extremely valuable; for different reasons [which he did not go into]. [...] Seth uses witnesses as “practice” for Jane. [...]
My thought here was merely that in perhaps four or five sessions we could deliver a basic, if not thoroughly adequate, explanation that would then serve as a basis for those who attended the four or five sessions, so that any problems could then be discussed in such a manner that the witnesses would be familiar with basic precepts and terminology.
(Last Saturday Jane received several brief flashes from Seth; we have been concerned lately with the best way to handle the problem of witnesses—that is, to familiarize potential witnesses with the material, and at the same time keep our sense of privacy, and also maintain control of the sessions. [...]
(One idea we think has promise is that witnesses attending the Wednesday sessions—we decided to keep Monday sessions private so that we could relax—first read the material in another room while the session itself is going on. [...] But during this reading witnesses could take notes, etc., or approach the material in any way they saw fit. [...]
[...] I had some indecision, myself, as to whether or not to discuss with you matters dealing with any witnesses that might want to sit in on our sessions, and still may do so. [...]
(Lorraine Shafer was a witness for the session. She had witnessed the 193rd session also. [...]
[...] By the Jesuit and the cat lover Seth meant of course Bill and Peggy Gallagher, who have witnessed quite a few sessions. Jane and I soon noticed that Seth did not refer to Lorraine very often, even when she was a witness, and have speculated about the reasons for this. [...]
(This in itself would be quite unusual, since she had also witnessed the 193rd, last week; never before had Lorraine witnessed sessions so close together by far. [...]
(It might be added here that John Bradley, our drug-salesman friend from Williamsport, PA, who has been a witness several times now and has read some of the material, visited us on Tuesday, May 5, the day before this session was held. He told us again about a lawyer friend of his in Williamsport, who wanted to witness a session, and indeed was willing to make the long drive [about 200 miles round trip] solely for this purpose. [...] friend, since her experience with witnesses had been very limited. We have had several witnesses since then however, so she told John his friend would be welcome now; John may make arrangements as to the date by mail.)
(At 8:00 PM Jim Tennant arrived to be a witness. [...]
[...] She had the feeling that Seth had “taken care” of her somehow this evening, putting to rest her concern over witnesses. [...]
[...] When for fairly long periods there are no witnesses to sessions, then both Ruburt and myself do indeed lean toward unscheduled sessions when informed friends of yours are present. On the other hand when several sessions in a row, regular sessions, are witnessed, then of course I grow impatient because I am anxious to get back to our own material, which is stressed when we are alone.
[...] Marian and her friend, Helen Dyer, both know of the sessions but have not witnessed any. [...]
We certainly would not want all of our sessions to be witnessed by any means, so you have no fear in that direction. [...]

[...] Although Jane did not seem nervous, I knew she was nervous to some degree because of the prospect of new witnesses.
[...] I cannot get through to him as well when he is so concerned; nor, when he is so concerned, can I let him know ahead of time whether or not witnesses will arrive.
(Before the session, Jane had remarked that she wished Seth could, or would, let her know whether witnesses were coming. [...]
[...] John Bradley, our salesman friend from Williamsport, PA, was a witness, and I believe this contributed to the envelope results, in some way I cannot define. Previously Jane has done well with envelopes before witnesses.
[...] It was brought about because John began talking about his family relationships; the subject came up when we discussed some of the sessions John has witnessed, and the data Seth has given in them pertaining to John, his family, his job, etc. [...]
[...] On impulse I almost told Seth there was to be no envelope, but decided to go ahead in the presence of a witness. [...]
(One question concerned what Seth actually “sees” when he is confronting a witness, and he answers this briefly in tonight’s session. [...] I called the witnesses’ attention to the effect. [...]
(The same effect took place during the 182nd session, which was witnessed by the Gallaghers. [...]
[...] In most instances, or at least in many instances, I do not see the particular physical image of a witness to a session; but indeed as you described it, I see what you may call a composite image, an energy reality that is composed of past personalities, and in many cases also of future personalities that will be adopted by the inner self.
[...] We did not quiz John about this when he witnessed the 204th session, but will do so next time we see him.

[...] I have no idea of the reaction, subjectively, of some of the witnesses to what must have seemed a very strange happening indeed. Personally, I believe that only the Gallaghers, Claire, Pat and myself had witnessed a session. This left as new witnesses Peg’s brother Dick and his wife Carol, Danny,Curt, Doug and Carl; though Carl and perhaps one or two others had at least heard mention of Seth.
[...] Pressure, the newest attraction, was at once called for, and before long began to manifest itself to various degrees; at first however nothing like the pressure of Wednesday showed, but there seemed to be plenty present, enough so that each person present, especially those who had never witnessed such a thing, could take the time to experience it.
(Tonight’s session was witnessed by Lorraine Shafer and Bill Macdonnel. The last session witnessed by Bill was the 133rd, of February 17,1965. Lorraine witnessed the 168th, of July 7,1965. [...]
