[...] People who call themselves skeptics, who seem to have a very rigid focus only within what they call physical reality. [...] Do they care what they used to think? Are they shocked, do they have feelings of regret or embarrassment, or what? [...]

[...] On the whole, in the vast scheme of reincarnational reality, a belief in life’s meaning is by far the rule, and other excursions are indeed eccentric variations. Specifically, however, such life episodes will of course involve their “moments” of after-death realization—dismay, shock, or what have you.

2. Seth referred to a question I periodically ask Jane, but seldom discuss with others simply because they don’t seem to be interested: What’s happened to all of the Rembrandts? [...] My choices are personally arbitrary, of course—yet why don’t we have a Rembrandt contributing to our current reality? [...]

[...] There are different historical periods, in your terms, where the species has showed what it can do—and what is possible in certain specific directions when the genetic and reincarnational triggers are touched and opened full blast, so that certain characteristics appear in their clearest, most spectacular light, to serve as individual models and as models for the species as a whole.

The body can find no firm stance in such a situation, for the artificial conditions blot out the natural realities of any given day. It is the duty and challenge of the conscious mind to ascertain cultural reality—but cultural reality cannot supersede natural reality. [...]

You hope to cast understanding upon man’s soul, his body, and alter his concepts of his cultural reality. [...] You could say “Well, that is that—we made an attempt,” and drop the entire issue (which is what we did say and do).

[...] The important point is, that that area was the one area in which you did not use those abilities—nor should either of you spend time bemoaning what has happened, or dwelling upon “what people can do to themselves.” [...]

[...] Ruburt does not yet know what his response to the world will be—whether he wants, for example, television shows and so forth, or not—but he is now determined to respond, to be responsive, and not to simply retreat.

[...] There is no real distinction between psychological reality and physical reality. [...]

[...] To him all realities are psychological realities, a thought as real as a chair—in fact, much more real. [...]

[...] You are your subconscious self, and oftentimes what makes no sense to the ego makes good sense to the overall personality. [...]

The overall needs of the personality are always taken into consideration by what I have called in the past the inner ego. [...]

[...] All symbols have a meaning therefore in themselves also, and a reality apart from that which they are meant to display. [...] The painting of a tree, while a symbol for the tree, nevertheless has its own consciousness and reality.

[...] You could say that you are merely symbols of your own greater reality, since your own greater reality exists in as many other dimensions as the tree exists from a rendering of it. [...]

(Jane began sitting for the session at 9:30 PM, waiting to see what would develop. [...]

[...] They share the consciousness of the material upon which they are printed and the various individual letters themselves, by their position and reality, make each unique piece of paper upon which they are written original from all others.

[...] All of you are aware that there are realities that you cannot see or touch and you are all willing—you are reaching out. [...]

[...] You must ask yourself where I came from and what my presence has to do with you. [...]

[...] Some of you will live more lives in this reality. [...]

[...] I know what the transition is like and I tell you it is pleasant—but your responsibilities will still exist, and you will ask yourself how you have fulfilled them. [...]

[...] I ask the reader to always keep in mind that no matter what subject he’s discussing, or from what viewpoint, Seth’s kind of “time” underlies all that our present physical senses translate into linear, concrete experience and history. For clarification, I also keep this in mind: Seth isn’t physical, as he defines himself, and that “energy personality essence” seemingly isn’t all that focused on the passage of time — as we are — yet way back in the 14th session for January 8, 1964, he told us that time “is therefore still a reality of some kind to me.” [...]

Were you born once in winter,
in Europe’s ice and snow,
when villages were dark at night
and wolves roamed the towering hills?
Or dark-skinned, did your swaddling cry
pierce Egypt’s early dawn?
How many birthdays come and gone,
how many homelands, each your own?
How many loves have whispered through

[...] What were Jane and I doing all of that “time” — that nearly one-quarter of a year of our physical lives?

[...] We had plenty of other things to do: I was still occupied daily with writing notes and appendixes for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality; on June 4 Jane received the page proofs for Cézanne, and began correcting them for the printer; on the 14th of the month “our” contractor began converting half of our garage into a writing room for Jane, and adding a large back porch [see the end of Note 2 for Session 801]. The consciousness therefore would never be destroyed in reality. [...] The individual petals would merely change, as the personalities of men change in what seems like a series of before and after reincarnations.

[...] You want me to deprive you of experience that you need, and in the reality in which you now exist, and in which you are learning very well to manipulate. You shall not get in the habit of having me tell you what will happen. [...]

I am again, as I have said often, an energy personality essence, which means quite simply that I am a personality who does not now operate within the physical reality. I can at times impress your physical reality, but the focus of my existence no longer involves a three-dimensional psychological structure. [...]

[...] My main existence however is in a dimension of which your third-dimensional reality is only a part. I can therefore perceive, for example, portions of your future, simply because the future is only an illusion that exists in three-dimensional reality. [...]

From her mystical orientation Jane chooses what she wants to learn and use from what Seth has to offer. [...] No matter that right now our joint reality seems quite opaque to me as Jane lies bedridden. [...]

[...] I think we’re creating a probable reality in which consciousness has the absolute freedom to explore all facets of itself—every one we can think of, and therefore create. Within our national orientations, within our religious and secular, scientific and artistic structures, we are choosing to go to the extremes of “good” and “bad,” and to deal with the consequences, all stewing together in what seems like an impossible mix of reason and emotion, learning and joy, pain and violence, and life and death. Naturally, many of us don’t like certain facets of our creations, yet we must deal with all of them if we are to make any sense out of our reality. [...]

What, then, are those “ideal developments” Jane and I are growing toward? [...] After all, here he is, engaged in a “lifelong” process with my wife, and just as dependent upon what he can get through her psyche, as she is upon what she can get from him and then let through to me and to others! What storms of consciousness, as well as peaceful reaches, must Seth travel through in order to [...]

[...] Again and again in the notes for Dreams I’ve indicated how Jane and I tried to understand the probable reality we’ve created. [...] Jane and I must still have an unbelievable amount to learn, even though I think that in more basic terms certain portions of each individual’s reality are consciously unknowable. [...]

Now: All creation is constant, and physical reality is formed and maintained in mental realms, sparked by psychic (pause) experiences. [...]

[...] You know what is meant.

[...] It does mean that this insufficient energy will keep this reality at such a low ebb that it will not sufficiently materialize as an event within your system. [...]

[...] As you should know, mental acts have an electromagnetic reality which directly affects the inner self, which directly forms the constantly changing nature of the inner self. [...]

[...] Apropos of Jane’s efforts to personally do what she can, she received a visitor recently who displayed signs of a secondary personality….

[...] They are electromagnetic realities. [...]

(9:36.) Your conscious mind is meant to assess and evaluate physical reality, and to help you chart your course in the corporeal universe of which you are presently part. [...]

[...] Of course, the wanted result is not yet physical or you would not need to create it, so it does no good to say that your physical experience seems to contradict what you are trying to do.

[...] Other dimensional realities do appear within your system but you do not recognize them. [...] We can tell you what they appear like within your own reality. [...]

[...] (One minute pause.) They would represent other dimensional realities inherent in the number itself, and since numbers are only symbols they would therefore represent other dimensional realities inherent in the unit for which the number stood.

[...] The blockage occurs because the symbols used to portray reality are themselves limited by the reality that you know. [...]

I am trying to tell you that numbers are only symbols for your kind of reality.

[...] The inner self became what I refer to as the inner ego. It looks into that inner reality, that psychic dimension of awareness from which both your own consciousness and your body consciousness emerged.

Now as you will see, all creatures, regardless of their degree, can and do choose, within their spheres of reality, those sensations that they will experience—but to one extent or another (underlined) all sensations are felt. [...] It is made to feel life and vitality by reacting to an environment that is not itself, by encountering what you might call natural stress. [...]

What was needed was a highly focused, precisely tuned physical self that could operate efficiently in a space and time scheme that was being formed along with physical creatures—a self, however, that in one way or another must be supported by realms of information and knowledge of a kind that was basically independent of time and space. [...]

[...] (Pause.) The body consciousness is not “unconscious,” but for working purposes in your terms, [the body] possesses its own system of consciousness that to some extent, now (underlined), is separated from what you think of as your own normal consciousness. [...]

[...] And I’m not ready for either of the books Seth has mentioned doing — the Christ book, or the one he talked about last month, on cultural reality. So what could a new one possibly be about?”

[...] What are you? What is the nature of the psyche?

(Seth finished dictating his last book, The “Unknown” Reality: A Seth Book, three months ago, in the 744th session for April 23. [...]

[...] You search your experience and study official histories of the past, hoping to find there clues as to the nature of your own reality.

You are not known for what you are in these dimensions. [...] In some of these dimensions you are chemically and even electrically a reality, in others electro-magnetically.

There are here in what you call the subconscious, abilities and realities of which you know little, and as you see how the subconscious projects itself into other dimensions, so will you see more clearly how energy is projected outward to form your own world of matter. [...]

[...] I would return again to those questions asked: What was the first act of creation? [...]

It is basically as meaningless in essence, to ask this kind of question as it would be to pause in the middle of a dream, and wonder when first the dream location was created: To stand facing a dream landscape and wonder at what point in time the rocks had their origin. [...]

We learned the methods
so long ago
that they’re unconscious,
and we’ve hypnotized ourselves
into believing
that we’re the audience,
so I wonder where we served
our apprenticeship.
Under what master magicians did we learn
to form reality
so smoothly that we forgot to tell ourselves
the secret?

What magicians we all are,
turning darkness into light,
transforming invisible atoms
into the dazzling theater
of the world,
pulling objects,
(people as well
as rabbits)
out of secret
microscopic closets,
turning winter into summer,
making a palmful of moments
disappear through time’s trap door.

You can return a badly wrought piece of furniture and get your money back—but what do you do when you understand that you form your own reality, and also decide that you aren’t pleased with large segments, at least, of the product?

[...] You worry about what the publisher will do with the book after it sells—what will happen to it, and imagine the ways in which it can be ruined. [...]

It is for a while perhaps more difficult once you understand that you do form your own psychological reality, for you feel responsible for events that earlier gave you concern, perhaps, but no feeling of inadequacy. [...]

(9:35.) The general world level of consciousness can serve as a springboard, so that you use it as a base only while the intimate webwork of your own psychological reality uses finer creative levels of consciousness. [...]

[...] You realize that someone — some interested observer — viewing the earth from another planet in another galaxy, would be seeing what you think of as earth’s past. [...] This would in no way alter your reality. [...]

(Ican add later that this is the only session in the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality to be witnessed by someone other than myself: Our visitor was a young man I’ll call William Petrosky. [...]

[...] Now: As soon as you label yourself you are setting limitations, putting up boundaries and defining the reality of your psyche — usually according to quite limited beliefs.

[...] What you think of as 1940 is but one season on that ledge, the season that you recognize. [...]

(A one-minute pause at 11:20.) While you were so concerned with protecting what you thought of as the boundaries and integrity of one selfhood, as a race you actually arrived at a point where you were beginning to deny your own greater reality. [...]

I have my own existence, that is quite different from Ruburt’s, and yet I also have a reality that is connected to his psyche.⁶ Each of you also have the same kind of connection with other “more knowledgeable” portions of yourself, or your greater identity, that are independently themselves and yet also alive in your psyches. They are portions of the “unknown” reality.

[...] I made notes on most of what she had to say; it’s presented as Appendix 5, and I suggest that the reader review it before continuing with this session.

[...] These pulses or messages became the only official data that, translated into sense perception, formed physical reality. [...]

[...] Naturally we’d been involved in a number of other projects at the same time, as I’ve indicated in my notes for Mass Events, yet for me especially the publication of the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality meant that we had arrived at a certain point in the development and presentation of the Seth material: In those books, through correlating them in a modest way with our previous works, I’d attempted to show the reader just what the three of us had managed to achieve before Seth led us into Psyche — and, as it developed, Mass Events.

Shortly we will begin to discuss the formation of a better kind of mass reality — a reality that can happen as more and more individuals begin to come in contact with the true nature of the self. [...]

[...] On the 14th we received from Prentice-Hall our complimentary copies, just off the press, of Seth’s Psyche; then on the 18th we received Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality.
