(Bill Macdonnel, who has witnessed several sessions, was at the door. [...] When she resumed her voice was abruptly quite a bit deeper and stronger, and it remained so for the balance of the session. [...]

(Jane’s voice was quite dry tonight, and it remained so when she began dictating. [...]

[...] Then she answered my query to the effect that she was all right.

(Because the proper detection equipment was not in place, government officials do not know just how much radiation was released into the Pennsylvania countryside 28 months ago [in March 1979], when the reactor of Unit No. [...]

Group dreaming was at one time taken for granted as a natural human characteristic—in a tribe, for example, when new locations were being sought, perhaps in time of drought. The various tribal members would have dreams in which the problem was considered, each dreamer tackling whatever aspect of the problem that best suited his or her abilities and personal intents. [...]

[...] Oftentimes much of the material did not need to become conscious: It was “unconsciously” acted upon, turned directly into action. [...] Their purpose was and is to increase the value fulfillment of the species and of the individual.

(A note: Six years have passed since Jane delivered the passage I was trying to recall. [...] In essence my memory had been fairly accurate—yet rereading Seth’s material was like a revelation to me. [...]

Before any universe as you know it, or as I know it, existed, there was first a striving. [...] In ultimate terms, there is and never was a beginning, Philip. This strains the intellect, and so I will say that in your practical terms, of which we have somewhat spoken in the past, there was what you may all refer to as a beginning, when strife and striving and a wish to be formed itself and gathered itself sufficiently together to form a contracted whole in which all possibilities were latent.

[...] At 8:59 she was in the kitchen making coffee. [...] Her pacing was slow. [...]

(John and Bill, Jane and I engaged in a discussion of free will, and in an effort to make some points I was sure the material covered I again became aware of something that was becoming more obvious all the time: namely, that the material has now reached such a length, and has gone into so many subjects, some lightly and others deeply, that I for one can no longer keep all of it on prompt recall.

[...] By now, Jane’s voice had strengthened, although it was not any lower. [...]

(Jane was very pleased now that Seth’s book was firmly under way after so many delays. [...] Now a third session was due tonight.

(9:54.) They grew up believing that the conscious mind was relatively powerless, that adult experience was set in the days of infancy. [...]

[...] Jane was surprised to learn that almost fifty minutes had passed. [...] Because I was willing to continue, Jane changed her mind about ending the session here. [...]

The concept of original sin was a very poor, limited and distorted one, but at least along with it went rather simple procedures: Through baptism you might be saved, or through certain words or sacraments or rituals redemption could be found. [...]

At the same time he was trying to uncover the basic reasons for his difficulties, so that all in all a good deal of loaded material of one kind or another was being encountered, some discussed in these sessions. [...]

(So much has happened since the last private session was held a month ago [on May 7] that I told Jane tonight that I’d make no attempt to summarize it all here. [...]

(Jane’s symptoms, especially her walking ability, have become much worse since the last private session was held—so much so that all of a sudden it seems to be a question of how much longer she can continue to make it to the john here in the house. [...]

(Perhaps it was no coincidence that before supper tonight Jack Joyce visited to discuss how much we should pay quarterly on our estimated NY State tax for 1981 — another success story that must be paid for? [...]

[...] This had erupted in a mass suicide, involving over 400 Americans, in the community of Jonestown in what was formerly British Guyana, in South America. A US congressman was also murdered, along with media network people, etc. [...]

[...] He was the opener of doors. He had his picture taken with celebrities, and because he was “a religious man,” the establishment took it for granted that his aims and policies were good, and that he spoke for those who had no voice otherwise. [...]

[...] Around the area there was a land of law, so that the situation was contained, and the temple people were aliens in that land. [...]

[...] To Jane and me, it seemed as if his material was being enacted in real life as the ideal demonstration of Seth’s material. [...]

[...] A portion of you was earlier projected to the hospital where your father is. [...] In the very back of your mind you wondered if he knew, now, that he ever had hay fever, and it was that that triggered the unconscious projection.

[...] There never was any real division, but only a seeming one in which you played various roles, developed different abilities, learned to create in new and diverse ways. [...]

[...] The whole Christ story was such a creation.

[...] It was certainly true that I wasn’t at my best. [...]

[...] The pendulum told me yesterday that it was because I was concerned that our finishing Psyche this year would give us more money, which in turn would mean that our taxes next April would be higher —a ridiculous worry, I agree, and quite in keeping with my past attitudes about money and taxes. [...] I was also hesitant to take the pendulum at face value, after the results achieved regarding the tooth data recently. [...]

[...] Then, when you began to make decent money, you resented giving it to the government—for the reasons just given, and because the government, it seemed, was built upon beliefs with which you could find no accord. So why should you so support it, when all that you had achieved was gained in spite of your society?

[...] This was the time of caution and danger, when a man could retire, settle for security, give in to complacency—or even become a gentleman farmer—as he was at times tempted to do (with amusement).

(9:00.) Ruburt rather good-naturedly appreciates being in the position of paying taxes, since his upbringing was at the taxpayers’ expense. [...]

[...] It was giant-sized. As he looked at it the front flap was open. In the dream he flew through this flap literally into another dimension, where the point of the flap was a hill upon which he landed. [...] Looking out from the hill in Perspective Two, Perspective One was invisibly behind him, and Perspective Three was still “ahead” of him, separated from him by a gulf he did not understand.

He was determined to find the kind of mate that would best suit him and his own unique characteristics. That intent was in his mind. When that challenge was met he used his will and mobilized all of his power to fulfill his abilities, and to bring about conditions in which he hoped Joseph (as Seth calls me) could also fulfill his. [...]

One of your beliefs, then, was a strong joint one that you had to protect your energy at all costs, and block out worldly distractions. Ruburt with his practical mind interpreted this more literally than you did, and physical restriction was a part of his natural early environment [because of his mother’s chronic illness], as it was not in yours. [...]

[...] These notes make her quest appear to be much simpler than it actually was — and is.²

(“It was,” I said. [...] I was a bit surprised that he’d ended the session so quickly, given the slow pace. So was Jane.)

(4:34 p.m. “I felt that was sort of slow,” Jane said.

[...] Jane was rather unhappy when she came out of trance. She said she was “mad”—an adjective I’d heard her use several times earlier today as she talked about her own physical state, beliefs, control, etc. [...] She was more than a little upset. [...]

Your experience concerning Jack Wall (on March 23, 1978) was quite legitimate, although it happened some time ago, in your terms (a point I’d wondered about). It was triggered by your associations immediately previous. [...]

[...] Since she has written Ruburt several times, he was aware of the situation. Dineen was convinced that she was being cursed, hypnotized, and had fallen under the domination of another.

(To Rachel) Now, in your own description of your experience you came close to making the connections of which I spoke, for the impression of the hand frightened you, that it was so old and decrepit and, subconsciously you connected it, at that time, with your foot when it was bad. [...] It was a subconscious connection on your part. [...]

I said earlier that two things were involved and one was fear. I did not say the fear was justified. [...]

(Sunday night, June 6, I had a vivid dream which was clairvoyant, and came to pass the next morning while I was at work. [...] Before the session I made sure to hope aloud that Seth would discuss the dream, but as can be seen it was not even mentioned. [...]

(The traffic noise was now even heavier. I thought it was bothering Jane, since she seemed to be sitting in a rather tense position in her rocker. [...]

[...] Jane was well dissociated. She blinked, then was out of her trance. [...]

[...] There was quite a bit of traffic noise even at this hour, and Jane’s voice had a stronger edge, as though to cut through it.)

[...] The visit was quite enjoyable, and it marked the first time in days that I’d forgotten my aches and pains, as I realized when it was all over. [...] I was so bothered, in fact, that I had great difficulty concentrating on painting.

(A hard, refreshing spring rain, with thunder and lightning, was drumming against the house as we sat for the session. [...] It was warm. [...]

[...] He was also quite content to remain a child at heart. I am not making value judgments, for each individual has his own purposes, and his unique abilities are so intimately connected with his own characteristics that it makes no sense to make that kind of comparison—but Picasso, for example, was an alien to profound thought. [...]

[...] “Okay, Bob, I’m making a statement of intentions,” Jane said as soon as she was out of trance. [...] I was nervous before this one, and I’ll ready the last book session before next Monday....”

He was a probable self of your grandfather’s and he kept in touch with you, and you were able to see him because of your own abilities. [...] He was a portion of your grandfather that your grandfather as you know him, could not be, and in many ways he was much freer than your grandfather. [...] He did not know it was your name, nor who you were. [...] He was born in his reality in 1831 and died in 1897. [...]

([Derek:] “Earlier today I was working on some clay work I was doing for someone else. [...]

Now, the person to whom I was earlier speaking knows, I am sure, of the message. [...]

(To Ned.) I was in your last experience as a probable self of my own and you did not recognize me, but that is all right and I will not hold it against you. [...]

[...] (Cecile Grossman was an editor at Prentice-Hall then.) Mossman has an uncle, I believe, of whom he is fond, or was fond. [...]

(But July 17, Thursday, he was with an associate who did have an accident. [...] They were worried about Art Kendall who was in no shape to drive, so they followed Kendall’s car out of Watkins Glen. [...]

(On Friday, July 18, Bill Gallagher tells us he had a cluster of fairly close near-accident situations since Monday—one involving two boys on bicycles—he stopped about 20 yards from them—but he was going 55 at the foot of Mount Zoar Hill on Holden Road.

[...] The form was there, but it was not manifest (intently). I do not particularly like the analogy, but it is useful: Instead of small particles (long pause), you had small units of consciousness gradually building themselves into large ones—but a smaller unit of consciousness, you see, is not “less than” a larger unit, for each unit of consciousness contains within itself the innate (underlined) heritage of All That Is.

[...] He gave me a knowing, half-smiling look while delivering this paragraph, for it was obvious that his material was related to a note I’d shown Jane today—one I’m finishing for Mass Events. In it, I’m trying to deal very simply with both the uncertainty principle and the complementarity of light, among other tenets of physics. [...]

In fact, I believe that a good amount of Seth’s material this evening was inspired by my struggles with that note. [...]

(The telephone began to ring while I was writing. Jane was still in trance but didn’t appear to be bothered. [...]

[...] I was still surprised at the quick ending; I didn’t even say good night to Seth. Already I was wondering whether we should ask questions we thought others were interested in, or just those we spontaneously came up with ourselves.
