You had the sleepwalkers,² early members of your species, whose main concentration was still veiled in that earlier subjectivity, and they were your true ancestors, in those terms.

2. Seth first discussed the “sleepwalkers” in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality—see Session 708 for September 30, 1974. [...]

[...] The sleepwalkers’ physical abilities surpassed yours. [...]

[...] In your terms they would seem to be like sleepwalkers, yet their physical abilities surpassed yours. [...]

(Pause.) The sleepwalkers, as we will call them, were not asleep to themselves, and would seem so only from your viewpoint. [...]

You are aware of such activities now as automatic speaking and automatic writing, and of sleepwalking. [...]

Sleepwalking was once, in that beginning, a very common experience—far more so than now—in which the inner self actually taught the physical body to walk, and hence presented the newly emerged physically oriented intellect from getting in its own way, asking too many questions that might otherwise impede the body’s smooth spontaneous motion.

For some time, in your terms, the sleepwalkers remained more or less at that level of activity, and for many centuries they used the surface of the earth as a kind of background for other activity.Their real life was what you would now call the dreaming one. [...]

[...] After forms were fully physical, however, all species operated as sleepwalkers for many centuries, though on the scale that existed then the passage of time was not considered in the same fashion. [...]

[...] But to a very real extent, you are all sleepwalkers—for you are far more awake and far more alert in many of your sleep states than you are now. [...]

While you and all of the other species were what I have called sleepwalkers, your bodies by then were physically capable. [...]

Sometimes in their sleep they sleepwalk and come upon the passageways, and meet, but in the morning they do not remember. [...]

[...] He said Jane would not like the sleepwalking idea, which Jane confirmed later. [...]

(Seth returned once more at 11:54, this time again in answer to our speculations concerning the second cat and Jane’s sleepwalking episode. [...]

[...] I’ve been curious about it ever since it was published —last year, I believe—for from the reviews printed of it I believe it contains some material that may be a distorted version of Seth’s “sleepwalker” material in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality.

[...] The dream state continues to be a connective between the two realities, and as a species you literally learned to walk by first being sleepwalkers. [...]

[...] In far-past historical times, different kinds of orientation were experimented with (as by the “sleepwalkers” described in the last session, for instance). Your own present private experience can give hints and clues about such other cultures, for those abilities reside within the natural framework, now, but are underdeveloped.
