(The day was brilliant and very warm — almost 80 degrees when I left the house for 330. Jane’s room was pleasantly cool, though. Later I turned on the fan. She showed me how the large scab on her right knee, over the site of the broken bone that had become infected, had peeled off partially in hydro this morning. It’s now half its former size. Underneath the missing portion I saw the fresh pink flesh of new growth. There is still a large hole in the leg at the drainage site. Both of us felt good about the improvements, though.

[...] It was very noisy; a neighbor clipping a hedge and machinery of some kind grinding away at the new bridge site. [...]

[...] He said a part of the bone at the break site, had become infected, and probably had been for a long time. [...]

[...] He told Jane that there could be an infection there, at the site of perhaps a bone spur — he wasn’t sure. [...]

(This morning Dr. Wilson visited Jane, and suggested that he’d like to clean out the site above her right knee where it’s open and draining. [...]

[...] As Jane was having dessert we watched the shuttle craft land in California—still a thrilling site even after so many have taken place. [...]

(When I got to 330 at 1:05 today I discovered that Jane was free of two more pathos on her ulcer sites—they were gone from inside her right knee, and her right shoulder. [...]

[...] I rubbed the flower extract Steve Blumenthal had given Jane last night on her knuckles of the right hand; we’ll use that location as a test site. [...]

(Jane said that as I read to her, she picked up from Seth information that in those old days people most often insisted upon returning to the sites of their destroyed or damaged cities and towns and farms, even though such events had wiped those places out more than once. [...]

[...] These sites, rejected as immoral and threatening to Israelite belief, contained objects of illegitimate worship — the sacred pillar of Baal being one such. [...]

[...] The raccoon had evidently picked the site as a secure, heated refuge from the winter weather to come. [...]

[...] Now, our country’s initial concern over the accident at TMI has grown to include deep questions about why we’ve built so many nuclear energy generating plants near large population centers; carrying out a mass evacuation in case of a serious accident at any of those sites seems to present a series of insurmountable challenges.

Following the accident at TMI, and aside from the great fears “generated” by it, a host of problems began accumulating for the nuclear power industry—involving everything from poor plant design (as Seth commented in the 914th session for Chapter 7 of Dreams), to enormous cost overruns and the fear of default on bond issues, shoddy construction and quality control, human and mechanical error, the disposal of radioactive waste, conflicts with antinuclear and environmental groups, arguments over evacuation plans at various nuclear-plant sites, a greatly expanded list of steps (numbering in the thousands) that the NRC is compiling for utilities to take in order to increase the safety of their plants, and even governmental concern over the possible manipulation and falsification of plant safety records. [...]

[...] I saw the last few minutes of the program: At a large open-air site, a medium, evidently speaking for “a great council” sitting on one of the outer planets like Saturn or Uranus, was delivering a ringing, generalized message to us earthlings. [...]

[...] And “several years” will pass before scientists and engineers pronounce the site finally and safely decontaminated, at who knows what enormous expense, for each step in that cleanup process will have to be scrupulously managed for maximum safety.

I was curious as to how often such a “negative psychology” operated—when, simply because of his or her own hang-ups, an individual [or more than one person] is attracted to a site where strongly negative events had taken place. [...]

It’s an old, predominantly lower-middle-class railroad town that used to derive much of its importance from being a junction point for several major lines; yet it’s also the site of a well-known hospital and clinic that has continued to grow. [...]
