(Jane was bleary—really “out of it”—when she said that she’d try for a session at 8:55. She didn’t feel Seth around and had no idea what he might talk about, or whether the session would be long or short. As we waited I explained to her a few things about the political fighting in San Salvador; I’d just finished typing the last, 930th session, wherein I’d referred to the attached news clippings about that country’s travails. I thought the session, on the behavior of nations, excellent, and that San Salvador could almost be a test example of what Seth had talked about.

(The evening was very cold—10° —as we sat for the session. [...]

Ruburt is correct: it will be a fairly brief session. [...]

[...] Jane was still very relaxed, even during the session her eyes had closed often as she spoke for Seth, or she had stared at me beneath very heavy lids.)

[...] I didn’t ask her to have a session tonight, but she volunteered. [...]

[...] During those years Marie was in her late 20’s and early 30’s, and already incapacitated by arthritis; and, to quote Seth from a session held in 1964, she had “… often spoken vehemently of Ruburt’s birth being a source of disease, and pain, that is of her arthritis … If Ruburt’s mother had it to do over, she would not have the child — and the child hidden within the adult still feels that the mother actually has the power, even now, to force the child back into the womb and refuse to deliver it …”

In our recent session with Philip, otherwise known as John Bradley, we also hit some specific points. The raise was one, the description of another salesman was another; and there were more in that session.

(In the unscheduled 203rd session of October 28, Seth told us we would shortly get another letter from Dr. Instream “within a few days.” [...]

1. For the record only: Inclusive from Session 919 (June 9, 1980) to Session 932 (August 4, 1981), almost 14 months passed while we had Chapter 9 in progress. During that time Jane held four book sessions, with small portions of three of them being deleted, or private; 10 regular nonbook sessions, with brief sections of four of those being private; and 68 completely private sessions. Of that last total, she devoted 13 sessions to material on the magical approach to reality, and 27 to the subject of the sinful self. She came through with 82 sessions, then, during the production of Chapter 9.

(Seth discussed generalized sinful-self material in only one of the five private sessions Jane has held since she came through with the 931st session for Dreams three weeks ago.¹ In some respects lately she’s felt a bit more at ease.²

Fear of the self, itself, can lead people to the horrendous experiences mentioned in tonight’s session, so you are working with some revolutionary ideas, and trying to apply them to daily living.

SESSION 852 (DELETED PORTION)

[...] By the time we obtained treatment for it the time was close to noon, so it seemed there would be no session this evening, or at most a few words from Seth acknowledging the seriousness of Jane’s predicament.

(By 8:30 PM Jane felt a little better but obviously was in no condition for a session. [...]

I will go into the reasons for his trouble during our next session, as I do not believe he can bear up to it this evening.

I also suggest that when we are holding regular sessions, then for one session a month we deal with a session for someone like your Pitre, Norelli, or whoever needs such a session at any time. [...]

If you have no more questions I will end the session... If you have questions ask me at our next session. You realize that you can call upon me in between regular sessions, or instead of a regular session when you feel the need.

3. In Note 1 for Session 681 I dealt very briefly with fluctuations of consciousness, or reality, and referred the reader to the 567th session in Chapter 16 of Seth Speaks. [...] Since starting the series of sessions that make up “Unknown” Reality, it’s becoming something of a custom for her to deliver a little material on other subjects after book dictation; she did so again now, and finished the session at 11:51 P.M.

(Jane called me early for the session, just to make sure she had one before she became too relaxed. She’s been planning on going back to taking breaks between deliveries, so that she can hold longer sessions. [...]

[...] “In the winter I like to start sessions earlier,” Jane said, “so I can finish sooner and watch TV for half an hour—it’s relaxing and cozy, especially when we’re alone…. I think the rest of the session will be about me.”

(“Well, for someone who wasn’t with it too much, I did okay,” Jane said when the session was over. [...] “If it weren’t for all that mail we get, I’d try at least three sessions a week,” she added. [...]

SESSION 893, JANUARY 7, 1980
8:43 P.M. MONDAY

(Jane and I wondered whether Seth would mention the letter from Dr. Instream during this session, but he did not; just as he did not discuss my recent clairvoyant dream. [...] As it happened Bill and Peggy Gallagher, who witnessed the first part of the 158th session, were again witnesses.

(Because of the witnesses the session was held in our living room. Again traffic noise was quite audible, yet it did not bother any of us unduly, as it had during the last session. [...]

I will here close what can be an extremely productive session. Whether or not it is an extremely productive session will be determined by the personality involved.

[...] The conversation had turned to holding a session at the Gallagher’s home in the country, where we would not be concerned with bothering neighbors, as I had been so acutely concerned during the 158th session. [...]

I may make this a short session, since Ruburt is somewhat indisposed, and after all I am not that much of a taskmaster. But if I do make it a brief session, then I will have you exercise your abilities with the ESP cards until the ordinary ending of the session. [...]

And now I am going to give you an unheard of bonus, and close the session a trifle earlier, since Ruburt has been indisposed, and yet did not refuse to hold the session. [...]

[...] In fact, after the session she felt better than before it began.

(Seth began explaining his source and the source of this material in the very early sessions. In the 15th session for example he likened his state to the dream state of a physical individual. By the 24th session he was dealing with the problems involved in communicating with us. By the 63rd session he was explaining his state as energy not materialized into mass; this after telling us in the 54th session that Jane, Seth and I had been part of the same entity once; he could not tell us this earlier, he said, because Jane and I would have immediately jumped to the conclusion that he was part of Jane’s subconscious mind.

(Seth began dealing with these ideas in the very early sessions, mixing it in with reincarnational data. He elaborated to some degree in the sessions on the electrical field and related subjects: In Volume 3, see sessions 122-135.)

(In the 45th session Seth said a little to the effect that I assisted her in drawing upon the energy necessary for these communications. In the 88th and 152nd sessions Seth went into Jane’s third undifferentiated layer to some extent, then elaborated a little more on the relationship between us in the 157th session.

(Seth gave data on Peggy’s trip in the 214th and the 215th sessions, December 6 and 8. He also gave some preliminary data on the trip during an unscheduled session held on December 3; Peggy took a copy of these predictions with her to Washington. [...] Seth gave them in Peggy’s presence; his score in the two sessions held while she was in Washington was much better.
