[...] The gist of it had to do with how far one wanted to carry one’s personal challenges, and that these limits or extents would be different for each individual. My own reaction to the events in our lives over the years was that consciously we had reached limits, and that it was beholden upon the rest of the personality—Jane’s especially—that it recognize this and back off enough from its own goals so that the physical body could recover, at least enough to ensure survival and a working life in which it could deal with life’s daily goals, and arts, too. Otherwise, I said, the whole process becomes self-defeating not only for the conscious portions of the personality, but for the very body itself. [...]

[...] No violations are allowed to tinge that person’s personality or value fulfillment. [...]

Any true psychic development of personality, however, is bound to lead to an understanding of the nature of the psyche that is far too large for any such confusion of basic identity with sexuality. [...] They are a portion of your personality. [...]

Touching is considered so basically sexual that the most innocuous touching of any portion of the body by another person is considered potentially dangerous. [...]

We will for the purposes of our discussion ignore, for now, certain aspects in Philip’s personality, such as a deep secrecy which is indeed based on fear, because this characteristic and others will not help us progress in our particular subject matter. We will instead content ourselves with a comparison of the two personalities in regard to certain characteristic reactions, which tend to lead the personalities toward health or illness.

The dependent portion of the personality is literally appalled at the more aggressive aspects of the whole personality. [...] The tendency toward division in Philip’s personality shows itself in this tendency toward secrecy, which affects most deeply the nature of his home life.

I would here like to continue our discussion concerning the nature of the personality. [...]

As we mentioned in our last session, the personality cannot be considered alone, but it must be thought of in its relationship to action and to all those aspects of reality of which it is a part.

Various aspects of the personality exist whether or not you are aware of their existence. [...] Portions of the self live a more or less independent existence, both while the dominant personality sleeps and is awake.

The psychology of personality cannot be grasped unless reincarnation is taken into consideration, but even then this only represents energy operating within one system. The personality operates simultaneously within many systems. [...]

When and if the dominant personality becomes aware of this situation, it automatically expands. [...]

When through training the ego becomes more aware of this inner self, the whole personality benefits. [...]

The entity, each entity, was formed in this manner, it in turn sending out its creations in terms of other personalities, and these personalities sending forth their own psychic as well as physical constructions. [...]

He threw this thought back to his personal subconscious, but by association it triggered memory of a previous death by cancer, which was then played back through the dream. [...] In the first dream, he was aware that the woman worked and was constructive until the last, and also that she passed the transition with little personal jolting.

There is no point in giving you a superficial analysis, since dreams usually impart knowledge that can be utilized by several levels of the personality; though consciously the information perceived and brought into meaningful context by the subconscious may not be at all comprehensible to the ego, it is nevertheless utilized by the whole personality.

[...] In it she was aware of an old woman, but not of her personal presence, of 83 or 85. [...]

[...] She now told us that the other personality was about, and that she felt the pyramid effect to a mild degree. [...] We now explained something to John about the other personality, since he didn’t know anything about it.

(I thought the other personality, who is still nameless, would speak after break. Now after our talk Jane sat upright in the rocker, her eyes closed, head back, sitting quietly with her lips moving soundlessly as if experimenting, trying for just the right approach so that the other personality could make entry through her.

(Jane said that with the new personality she was still not sure how to leave. [...] She said that some sounds could bother her while speaking for the other personality, and that if I touched her without preparation she’d feel as though she’d fall through space, yell out, etc.

(When she could finally talk Jane revealed that she had been experiencing a concept to accompany the personality’s words; this she has done before when speaking for Seth’s entity, and we have been told before that this is one of the reasons or purposes for her speaking for this new personality. Within the entire identity there may be, for example, several incipient selves, around whose nuclei the physical personality can form. In many instances one main personality is formed, and the incipient selves are drawn into it so that their abilities and interests become subsidiary, or remain largely latent. [...]

On many occasions, however, such latent selves will be as highly energized as the “main” personality. Since physically a certain personality structure must be maintained, traces are made. [...]

[...] Imagine that at age 13, three strong energy centers come to the surface of the personality — highly charged, so that one person cannot adequately fulfill the desires or abilities presented. [...]

Now: When I speak of probable selves, of course I am not speaking of some symbolic portion of the personality structure, or using the idea of probabilities as an analogy.

Now, if you err, it is far less dangerous to err on the side of spontaneity, given your personalities, than it is to use too much restraint. [...] I am speaking of your personal cases only. [...]

More energy indeed can be held in the personal subconscious in such a manner than can be used in studying other areas of the inner self, for it is in the personal subconscious that energy blockage most frequently occurs. [...]

[...] This apparently had not been sufficient to satisfy the literal-minded personal subconscious, hence my coldlike symptoms. [...]

Some personalities are prone to this sort of activity. Until they realize the nature of such actions, two or three personalities may join as partners in such an endeavor, in which case the situation is more difficult to untangle. [...]

[...] The workings of the personality led to the science fiction direction, and could have short circuited him, ending far before the inner goal was even glimpsed. Hence the difficulty after Rebellers. All elements of the personality were not united.

The personality is now trying to assimilate a greater framework to become bonded to a higher sequence of knowledge. [...]

His idea of a project on the magical approach now is excellent, for it suggests a new concentration or focus in which the natural and magical aspects of existence are courted, and the characteristics of the natural magical person encouraged to show themselves. In such a way the old fears do not go underground and are not concentrated upon either—but they are taken into consideration and acknowledged, let out into the open daylight, so to speak, where they can also benefit from the personality’s newer knowledge. [...] At certain points, then, the assimilation of new information is so qualifiedly different from the original belief structure that in order to assimilate it the personality is left for a time between belief systems. [...]

Once those old beliefs are understood for what they are, they will no longer be considered as shameful in themselves, nor humiliating, or as attitudes to be accused of (long pause, one of many), but as a personality’s way of still preserving old beliefs, whatever their nature, for the feeling of safety that they still implied. [...] In the case of secondary personalities, the main operating portion who usually directs activity might be male, displaying all of the usual male characteristics. The secondary personality may seemingly be female, however, even speaking in a feminine-like voice. [...]

[...] The therapist can help the client learn to question his or her personal interpretation of such events.

It is also possible for the individual to dress in male attire, while the secondary personality wears feminine clothes — or vice-versa.

In this category, I am not referring to individuals like Ruburt, who speak for another personality with a sense of ease and tranquillity, and whose resulting information is excellent knowledge — the obvious products of uncommon common sense that proves to be helpful to the individual and others.

This is actually not as bad an analogy as I first thought, in that oftentimes a particular personality will be like the right arm of the entity as a whole, while another particular personality will have both feet on the ground. To get back however to the original point I wish to make, there is a point beyond which the most suggestible personality will be beyond reach, no matter what the circumstances are. Manifestations of the personality may follow the lines that suggestion commands. This is bad enough, but it only means that the personality has been forced to change its mode of action in the physical world. The personality seems shattered because the actions seem so changed. [...] The basic personality, that is the primary personality, has not been changed and will not change except through the personality itself.

Nevertheless, when you think in terms of the entity and its various personality manifestations throughout your earth time then you realize that the basic self, the entity, cannot be destroyed in any particular earth life. [...] If you will imagine the various reincarnated personalities—and this is a most unpleasant analogy—as the various limbs and other faculties of the entity, then you will see why if one fragment is disintegrated it can be regenerated in the same manner that a physical cell of your body can be regenerated.

What may occur is that lesser fragments of the personality, that were at one time possible competing elements for the dominant personality, take over.

These may come to the foreground in bad circumstances, and actually save the basic personality itself from what would certainly be disintegration. It is as if the basic personality throws the dirty dogs bone after bone, all the while saving the real morsel.

[...] She sensed his deep and personal inner awareness. [...] In his solitary nature he came close to being a mystic, but he was unable to relate his personality as Joseph Burdo with the social world at large, or even to other members of the family. [...] The solitariness that besieged him — because it did besiege him — is dangerous to any personality unless it comes after identification with the human race.

That is, in his feeling of unity with All That Is, he excluded other human beings, and on your plane it is necessary for the personality to relate to its fellows. [...] Jane sensed her grandfather’s feeling of identification with the rest of nature, however, and since as a young child she had not yet developed a strong ego personality, she felt no sense of rejection as did, for example, the other members of the family. [...] As in the Introductory Notes, I want to stress Jane’s role as the creative artist, disseminating her personal view of a larger inner reality, and her intuitive and conscious comprehension of at least some aspects of that reality; for such understanding can easily elude our Western-oriented, materialistic, technological outlook.

[...] More likely than not, they’d be chosen by the personality before birth, or outside the physical state.

The natural person uses creative abilities spontaneously, and those abilities, as I have said often, will show themselves both in the area of Prentice and in the area of Ruburt’s physical condition when you allow them play and leeway. [...]

[...] Something about my personal purposes—what I’m trying to do.... [...] Trying to find man’s personal path as a species in the cosmos, rather than just as a species on the earth; this presupposes that I find my own personal path within that cosmos; and where I’ve been bold in certain respects—with Rob’s help it also seems to me that I’ve been supercautious; in perhaps too many instances. [...] If so—that in itself is quite legitimate and important; yet I feel, felt, Seth’s personality in a way super-straddle my own as I know it; and that is what the heroic dimensions would do....

Now: This is a personal god, in your terms. It is a personal god because this god represents the part of that which is, which is yourself, you see. [...]

[...] They also represent your personal connection with All That Is. At times these personalities do aid their own and give instructions.

[...] I would like to give some hint as to the psychological realities that form personality structures on higher levels than your own. These personalities are able to deepen value fulfillment amazingly through an expansion of consciousness that allows them to focus into many areas within the systems and planes simultaneously.
