As far as I can tell, however, this latest episode was not a continuation of my three visions of last October, in which I saw the end of my life while I was an officer in the armed forces of Imperial Rome¹ — yet this time also I confronted circumstances surrounding my own death. If physical form is made up of such multitudinous, invisible particles, how much more highly organized must be the inner components of consciousness, without whose perceptions matter itself would be meaningless. [...]

Within what you call one moment, many such perceptions flash through to affect any given individual. However there is within your system a lapse before the organism can effectively organize these perceptions. [...]

[...] You rationalize away quite legitimate intuitive perception at such times. [...]

[...] Your physical senses confine you as best they can to the perception of a highly formalized reality. [...]

[...] Your body is your method of perception at this time, but I am telling you that if you identify your entire reality with your body then you are heading for severe feelings of depression and desolation and also letting yourself in for some surprises in the future. [...]

[...] Your physical senses are extensions of these inner methods of perception, and after death it is upon these that you will rely. [...]

… so that you can even become familiar with the nature of perception after death, now. [...]

In other words, the environment, conditions, and methods of perception will not be alien. [...]

Personality is a gestalt of ever-changing perception. [...] I do not force my perceptions upon the woman through whom I speak, nor is her consciousness blotted out during our communications. [...]

[...] You are carried above the land of your usual perception so that portions of you glimpse subjective states. [...]

[...] Those interactions exist about you all the while, and I would like you in your thoughts to aspire toward them, to try to stretch your perceptions enough so that you become at least somewhat aware of their existence.

The other exercises, in fact, will result in a clearer picture of the world, for they will facilitate the very motion of your perceptions, allowing you to perceive nuances in the physical situation that before would have escaped your notice. It is learning the methods of physical perception, as within you it experiences your reactions and becomes familiar with the ways in which you use physical senses to obtain information. [...]

It is aware of you both as psychic entities, and retains strong and unclouded perceptions of your past relationship. [...]

It reacts strongly to your ideas and to its father’s telepathically, and so its inner perception of this room, say, is highly colored by your ideas of it. [...]

[...] There are various questions involving the nature of perception that then occur, and these will be discussed somewhat later (but see Note 4). Consciousness is equipped to focus its main energy, in your terms at least, generally within the body, or to stray from it for varying amounts of time. [...]

In the same way, when you look at the current state of the world, or at history, you often structure your perceptions so that only the topmost surfaces of events are seen. [...]

Your own main consciousness has the ability to travel faster than light (as noted at 9:37), but those perceptions are too fast, and the neurologically structured patterns that you accept cannot capture them. [...]
